+Lucas Untiveros Great to hear this Lucas. Since I was in Foster care from age 3 till 12, I believe that the best foster care parents are those who have gone through living in foster care themselves. It's Only those that will truly understand the needs, and feelings foster children genuinely need, and they do it from ther Heart.

I was in 8 foster homes as a child and I had very bad care as a child and still suffering today because of the past. i even had my first born child removed by force and put for forced adoption by social worker because of my traumatic past. my life has been one death trap. what children need is one home forever and not multiple homes if possible.

True, there are a lot of flaws in the system that we need to fix. But until then, treating the children kindly who come into your home is the best you can do.

+vegetalover allen No, it's not about money. It's about doing the right thing. Some people make bad decisions, and those people give all of us a bad image. The small amount they give for "reimbursement" nowhere near covers the hundreds of dollars we spent the first 2 days on our first placement to get these kids some clothes, shoes, school supplies, food, activities, toys, car seats, and a myriad of other things they need. We do it because we care, and we were moved to help these little ones. Please do not let the bad ones cloud your eyes. There are many more like my family than the bad ones. It breaks my heart to see people feel this way about those of us who just want to help, and protect the little ones.

After 6-months of trying to adopt a foster child my husband and I have seen the deficiencies in the system. If a child's parents parental rights have been terminated and their are no kin to adopt, the system needs to prioritize adoption. Children are in the system for far too long.

some of you fostercarers are in the dark thinking that there parents left them and they didnt want there own child.reality is more than 50 percent is bull. Our daughter was removed to to lies and accusations.Child protection dont need to proof of anything as long as they pay there own way.I have nightmares every night wondering what is happening to my daughter.I see her every visit i have with bruises scratches and nits covering her entire hair and hair sprayed back.Think about how you would feel in that situation.

    • @Hatratty
      @Hatratty 9 лет назад +3

You are so right! 50 percent is bull perception and the CPS perception will always prevail with or without proof. CPS will see what they want to see therefore they see their foster parents as such loving and kind people.... again their perception.... and see the real parents as the monsters. This is from me.... who lived in those foster homes from 6 yrs to 18 years (when I walked away, got a job and went to college) while CPS was running around the county trying to find my "body" as nobody knew where I went! Ha,ha... just shows how they keep track of kids. They keep track of them for the money the state gets from the Feds, that is all it's about.... money. Even the foster parents I had did it for the money. Follow the money trail.

+Sarah Jane I have no doubt this does happen. However, I would offer a different perspective. My family just became Foster Parents, after 1 year of lasses, inspections, background checks, training for first aid and cpr, remodeling our house to accommodate our 2 kids and 4 more, and a whole bunch of hassle with DFPS. I do not say this to brag. Last Friday, after 6 weeks of being approved, we got our first call. Three kiddos, ages 5, 7, and 9. They were removed because of physical abuse. They are Hispanic, with darker skin, and when they arrived, two of the children have very large bruises on their back and chest areas. We did not get into this for the money. We wanted to help. We will do everything we can to help. They arrived at 10 pm Friday night with 1 backpack each of clothes. After dumping out and sorting the clothes the next day, we found that nothing in the bags fit, and it was all dirty. The 2 girls heads were so infested with lice that it went from the nap in the back all the way to the baby hairs in front. After 5 hours of combing nits and treating the lice, we took them to the store and bought clothes, shoes (because 2 of them were complaining their feet hurt, looked and feet were hanging off of the shoes, way too small), jackets, a car seat booster, and some activities they picked out like art supplies and puzzle books, the 9 year old looked at my wife and said- "My head feels awesome, it does not itch". My point is this- there are people who only want to help, and there are CPS workers who are only in it to protect the children. Bad ones aside, there is definitely a need for them to help these vulnerable children. You, as a parent, or as a foster child, have the RIGHT, not the ability, the RIGHT, to have your concerns addressed. Any Foster Family or caseworker worth their salt should be addressing any concern or problem you have. If the child is coming to meetings with nits, then the CW should be made w=aware of it. I know our CW would immediately be on us to remedy that situation, or lose our license. Not all of us are in the dark. I know we do not know the complete picture, but when they come to us with all the bruising and lice, and clothes and shoes that do not fit, they needed our help. I can assure you, the small stipend we will get for these kiddoes will not cover what we spent in the first 2 days. And that is OK. Everything we bought them will go with them if they are returned to Mom. They needed help, and we were, and are, there to help.

    • @kytown

+Betty Wilchek I know of one family that took in a foster child and didn't receive a dime... Me... One night, 9 years ago, my husband and I heard a knock on our door. It was a second cousin of my husband, whom we didn't know very well. She and her boyfriend had gotten themselves into some serious trouble. CPS was going to take her 7 month old baby girl, if she couldn't find a relative willing to take her in. We agreed to help her on one condition: she go to rehab and get clean and turn her life around. We were in our 40's and had two kids in high school and I WASN'T wanting to raise another kid....9 yrs later, I look back on that night and realize that was the night God gave me the most wonderful little girl you can imagine. She is my EVERYTHING. After a year of her biological mother failing 13 drug test (she never did go to rehab) and her biological father was sent to prison for manslaughter, the court ruled no more contact with her biological parents. She is the best thing to ever happen to us. The first year the state gave us $180 a month, but as we fell more and more in love with our little girl, I felt guilty about receiving money from the government and told them not to send another dime... She is in the 5th grade and thriving. We make no difference between her and our 2 biological children, in fact, my husband and I just made our will. We own a house and 45 acres. We willed the house and 7 acres to her and the remaining land was split between our other 2 kids. They both won scholarships to college and now have really good jobs, but she has ADD and struggles a little bit, but still makes decent grade's. We are going to put her through college (even if we have to take a second job) but just in case something happens to us, she would have a home to fall back on.
I agree with you about people becoming foster parents for the money, and it some times enrages me. I have seen, here in my community, people quit their jobs and take in foster kids just long enough to pay off their mortgage or to buy themselves a new boat, and it literally makes me sick!
So I just wanted to share with you a little about my story and let you know that there's at least one person who actually loves the child and doesn't do it for the money...

It's a shame that a child who loves his/her foster family ends up being "Removed" and sent to one foster home to another? This in my opinion is all about the foster system keeping this kids moved around all for the money they receive from the government. Plus we need to really make ADOPTION a lot easier in America. There is no reason whatsoever that a family who wants to ADOPT has to be put on a waiting list for months if not years while children are stuck in a system up until the age of 18 and then these kids are tossed out on their own with no hope on how to live in a society that threw them away. We need ADOPTION REFORM!

I think I almost got dragged into the hellhole that is foster care when I was younger. My family won't say anything but I know why these cold as ice strangers came to our home. Was absolutely terrified and it traumatized me. I've also heard so many stories of abuse and corruption in this system because of money. I know not all foster parents are evil but still I feel bad for anybody in foster care. It needs to change.

I'm lucky I don't need to be put into foster care because I have loving parents who yell at us because it's to keep us safe(don't think the opposite) But I love the idea of having my own foster care but I don't know what's put into it to start one(I'm going to wait until I move out of my family home which is in 8 or 9 years, I'm only 13 so...) any advice on how to start one when I'm ready?

When you foster a child, you are taking care of them temporarily until they can hopefully go back to their own family. When you adopt, the child becomes a permanent part of your family and stays with you.

Adoption is a bittersweet outcome of foster care-- it is always the goal to reunify children with their biological parents, but for a variety of reasons that isn't always possible. We hope your experience of being adopted brought you into a loving and permanent home.

+Hazeldory I hate to hear stories like yours. My wife and I, and our 14 and 16 year old kids, have just begun our journey as a Foster Family. It is truly our hope that we can make a difference for kids when they need a stable family life the most. When I se stories like yours, and Bty'Anne below, it hurts my heart. We certainly are not a perfect family, but I would like to hope that in the end, any child placed with us leaves knowing they were loved and cared for more than they can imagine. We just got our first placement, a sibling group of 3, ages 5-9. Their home life was physically abusive, and overcoming this is going to be hard. For all the children who have your same stories, I could only wish and hope for families like ours, who do it for the right reasons, for the kids. I hope your situation gets better. Please, remember that the family you are with answers to your case worker. If you are experiencing a bad situation, ask to be moved. You have that right. But also step back and make sure you are not holding a grudge against them for being pulled from your bio family. Make sure the reasons you have are real. Write them down, give them to your case worker. Talk to the worker, and to the family, and make sure it is not something that can be fixed. I can only speak for our family, and our situation, but we do it for the kids, not for the money, or the fame (lol). Hang in there, and give a chance to the family. But do not hesitate to tell the worker this family is not a good fit if you truly feel it. The family should be receptive to your concerns, and honestly listen to your complaints. Good luck with your journey. I hope it gets better for you. Also, let your family know the things you like, and the activities you want to do. Maybe they can help set some things up, or get you the things you need for those activities. I know we would!

I'm a foster child, and just keeping it real, CPS is stupid, foster care sucks, and I love and respect the people who take up their life to be a foster parent/social worker but we still feel like shit. Any kid who doesn't live in their own home with their own family will feel that way, and there's just no way around it.

Love Life I'm sorry if I offended you or your family, I'm sure they are all great people, just coming from my perspective this is how I feel. Especially since nobody wants to take us (I have 4 siblings) all in the same home. Maybe if I'm lucky as you and get adopted (although right now I'd rather go home with mom) than maybe my mind will change.
