As a friendly suggestion, it would be great if you could spend some time dissecting the Scorpion cocktail, which is an underappreciated classic. It brings together rum and brandy so it might be right up your street
Private Stock is another must have for me. I love it as a neat sipper and it makes a great rum fashioned as well. Here in Ohio we also have the 1.75L bottle available and its only $42.99. Glad you enjoyed it!
I agree with you completely. The private stock is my go to mixer for a rum and coke or rum and ginger ale when hosting friends that like the typical captain and coke. It's only a little bit more for the private stock and equally available...cheers 🥂
One of my favorites for sipping, as a new spiced run fan. Probably interchangeably with Kraken Black/Gold and Baron Samedi. Price is a tiny bit higher than Kraken Black, like 5% more, so nowhere near Bumbu which is double the price. (Canada, so no Don Q, Chairman reserve, Don Papa, etc.)
I wish there was a tequila matchmaker type app for rum. Spiced rum I understand is probably full of additives. It would make rum buying much easier for me.
Just downloaded the RumX app. This is pretty similar to the Tequilla matchmaker app. I think a good video would be a top mist of zero added sugar/colors. This app is a good starting point
I like the Bacardi spiced more than these 2, then I would pick Bumbu. My problem with the Captain Morgan Private Stock is it is very sugary, it left a sugary sticky feeling on the lips, kind of like rubbing a sugary candy on the lips. The other 2 I mentioned above didn't do that.
Steve, I think the question that's on all of our minds is this, have you ever been visited by or had any encounters with the Zen patron saint and protector of fortune tellers and bartenders, the entity known as _"Hoti"?_
Oh, I never seen that before. We have the regular spiced one, the Jamaican one and a white one available here. I only ever tasted the regular spiced one decades ago so I don't actually even remember what it tastes like.
The Spiced Gold is the best seller in Norway as well and Kraken is probably second as well. I can't imagine any Spiced rum selling more than the Kraken besides Captain Morgan, it's become one of those everyone knows even though they just seldom drink Spiced rum drinks in the summer months. The Chairman's Reserve Spiced gets mentions on cooking shows sometimes by premium chefs if they are recommending spiced rum. There's not that many alternatives really over here in the spiced category.
Last I heard Cruzan was providing a large share of the rum for Captain Morgan products in the U.S. with Bacardi and other Puerto Rican producers being involved possibly as well. The tax and duty situation being what it is may explain the lack of it being available in the UK. As you are probably aware the U.S. government passed tax regulations, some time ago, that return all alcohol tax collected from the sales PR and USVI products in the U.S. to the islands to support their economies. I don't think the same is in effect elsewhere. I believe it is islands more closely aligned with the UK that provide the rum for the Captain Morgan products sold there. On a more personal level, when I have spiced rum lovers over for a drink with the promise of some Captain Morgan, i usually begin with a proper Daquiri, Mai Tai, a Painkiller, a Hurricane, or even a Zombie, made with proper rums, and generally we never make it to opening the Captain Morgan. Love your videos, keep it going.
Bumbu, just delicious; captians private stock is very good, I'd still drink Bumbu before captain but the private stock is the only captain on my shelfs.
Ha, It's not difficult...it's just not a product here! 😂 I can't complain too much, as we have a LOAD of stuff you don't get....like even in big brand world, products like "Carribean Spiced" with Pineapple and other Tropical fruits...most of the brands sell them...Bacardi/Havana are the biggest...but as Diageo is one of the biggest global players, it does surprise me that Private Stock is not here.
@@StevetheBarmanUK I do get quite jealous seeing some of the stuff you guys get, but the internet makes some of it possible fortunately. Im also doing a cruise to Nassau in a few months where Ill try and grab as many interesting bottles as I can.
And as you know Christine... I'm no Whisky fan either. Espesh Peaty Smoky Whisky from Islay. That is my idea of hell...and why I have a Rum channel, not a Whisky Channel 😂😂
As an American. The private stock cost $40. Between the cheap stuff being used in mixed drinks, and the private stock is reserved for classy supper clubs. As I have been watching you, the plantation 5 year and and XO has replaced them all. The 3 star is $20 and the 5 year is $60. Captain and coke has been a popular drink for decades. Same with Crown Royal and Pepsi. As my taste ages, having rum straight is the only way I cam enjoy the after taste. I am a tobacco smoker and adding 5 year to a good cigar or pipe tobacco is marvelous. I would Imagine the Mews area would favor the Don Papa and Plantation XO.
@@literalghost929 no box store or major chain store even carries it in my region. The mark ups are specific to liquor stores. Don't ever make the mistake to compare prices according to exchange rates. Product mark ups have noting to do with trade in the U.S.
@@inspectorbusiness4892 That's a bit crazy. Normally, prices are lower in US for the same products relatively to Canada. You'd think especially so given that it's an American company and American Rum, plus Canada is known for its high taxes for alcohol. Anyway, I'll take it. American rum cheaper for Canadians than for many Americans! :D
@@literalghost929 what is really amazing, these are Wal-Mart prices. Go to a liquor store and they are even more expensive. Prices are not equal throughout the states. Prices can alter from city, county, state taxes dramatically.

@4:10 For the non British: "we don't have a Scooby-Doo" means "we don't have a clue"
Thanks. I was thinking of the tv show.
@@numanuma20 You're welcome. Steve doesn't speak proper English but he tries... Bless him 😂😜
Although I don't drink it much anymore, Private Stock is the one that started me on my rum journey. Great video, excellent content as always!

Ha, you guys and your 1.75l 😂 Unless it's cheapo house stuff, we're stuck to 70cl

Saying this as a rum lover, Captain Morgan private stock is truly a good buy at its price
I just started venturing into spiced rums so I don't have a lot of experience, but I really enjoyed Chairman's Reserve Spiced so far.

Agree with this. I always do research before making a purchase on a spirit I don't know about
Not sure what you mean by "Matchmaker" but if you're looking for a Reviews App, then check out RumX

Private Stock is my favorite rum to mix with store bought egg nog. And neat, it's kinda like a rum old fashioned. Regarding Bambu, not a fan.

Smoked flavor additions. Smoked ice, smoked wood added, smoke impregnated, or tobacco smoke. How much does it make a difference?

The private stock is good in hot buttered rum.

Try out the new Lagavulin Offerman Edition #4 - aged for an extra 8 months in rum casking! Fricking delicious! Not a spiced rum fan at all. Cheers!

Smoking weed in bambu, sipping on private stock
Nobody in their right mind drinks Captain Morgan neat. It's great with Coke. But that's about it.
Can you do a zombie cocktail video please
I'm working on it soon 👍️
I bought this bottle and I gave it away lol 😂 not for me .
I love the Private Stock. Delicious stuff!
