Very impressive about the moon planting. Not many understand planting/harvesting by the moon. Truly biblical and a long lost art ! 😃🙏🏽
I love the moon planting concept. I hope to do a video on it one day
Came across your channel last week and it's perfect timing as my wife and I just moved to the area. Already coming across useful information that will help us down the line. Question: The first project I'm doing is a rock wall in the front of the property. I generally see 3 colors of walls here in Hawaii: gray, brown and black. I see at the local rock place the rock looks gray but likely the blue rock I've read about. Will this patina over time and become the brown or black I generally see? Thanks again, already saving us time and money....... Aloha
Pretty sure the rock is the color its gonna be. Older flows have browner, grey rock. New flows its black. What happens over time is the moss growing over eventually
Thanks for this great information.
No worries
Need to get some more Sean vids in my feed!
Haha
When you build these “raised beds” on top of cinder and lava rock, how do you prevent heavy rains from washing away a lot of the compost? Plant cover crops? Line the bed with comfrey?
You can do all those things you mentioned. Mulch sticks around longer than compost. I worry about improving the soil by adding as much as I can
I dont worry too much about it washing away. The roots will find it.
Biochar
Thank you 👍
Thank you too
I need to do this at my place
great content
how can I get lava rock to add minerals to the soil here in central FL? Also does ocean water diluted 1 :20 cups water provide good nutrients to the soil? I heard here on youtube that the ocean has almost every element there is in trace amounts.
Ocean water is a great resource. Check out my video on fermented seawater to make it even better. I don’t know how you can get lava rock, but biochar, compost manure and some mulch should help any soil
@@HomesteadinHawaii Very interesting I will check it out
What was that stuff called you added to the mulch to break it down? Culmphry?
Comfrey. It's a fast growing plant that produces alot of material, breaksdown quick and is full of nutrients
Do you have to cover your lot with cinder after getting it ripped?
You should. Red cinder then cinder soil is best.
as a california surfer, where should I look for some affordable land to pull off your exact move.
Get a remote job and go to Nicaragua, Mexico or Indonesia. If I could do it over thats what I would do.
We just had lava destroy a few spots on the big island and this is the last semi affordable area!
Hello wanting to move to east side of island have large family where are the best areas for kids? Want to have permitted building but solar and catchment. Thanks for reading
I dont know your budget but I wish I was down in hpp, 3rd st towards the beach. Kids in the area and it could be bike able for them with trails and fishing nearby.
Thanks for speedy reply only have $30000 for land. been in construction for 25 years so I will build structures thanks again for info . watched your video on 5 best places in puna great information
@@A.Harden5477 $30k for land plus more for construction? I like HPP because it's close to the ocean where there are some trails and fishing, but if you want more land, look Hawaiian acres or fern forest.
Thank you I will do some research
Mahalo brah! 🙏
Aloha! Where can I get the horse manure and mac nut mix?
Where do you live? You can check out my building a raised bed video. Its mentioned in there.
I just watched your awesome video about propagation of Comfrey and saw that I can go to the Paneewa stables! Could too much horse manure potentially burn the plants? Mahalo for sharing! I’m learning a lot from your videos 🙌😀 I live in Hawaiian Acres🌞
@@caliearthlamps glad I can help. I like to go 50/50 manure/soil. Best if manure is left to compost a bit
Too hot and too much will burn. On fruit trees though I just throw it on and my chickens spread it out for me.
Banana leaf tamales...being Latina, I'm intrigued. 🤔. How about a vid on makings those "banales"? 😂😉 Love your channel and keep 'em comin'!!😃
Just like making tamales really. Onolicious!
Aren't those Pasteles?
Looks like your bananas has the sigatoka on them. You have a way to treat that???
Leaf removal and spacing helps. I do add knf amendments to my plants. So far no real big issues.
Anyone watching just Switch playback speed to x1.25 to get clear audio 😎
Is it me, or do I hear corgis in the background?? Haha
I have plenty coqui frogs
