You are absolutely correct they are a plant but are commonly referred to as trees because of their size.

I thought there was a free way to get started, I guess you still need to buy a banana plant to get free bsnana plants haha

You could always get one free from someone who has them. I've given many plants/ trees away that are easy to propagate or self replicate.

Unfortunately this banana was hurt by the freeze last year and had to start over growing this year or it would have fruited.
