Not as profitable for corporations and sales. Everything is waaaaaay more disposable today. Less metals, steels, and chrome, more crap Chinese recycled metals and more plastics. Look at the cars!

Because the world moves forward. Not backwards. And I like it that way. But that shouldn’t stop you from shaving like the 19th century.

Ehh there’s a lot of conveniences that also come from more contemporary styles/shaving technology. No need for stripping and honing for example, less of a learning curve, “safety” being part of safety razors name is due to the safety features it also brings. Both have their pros and cons which which I think are fine I enjoy both good olde shaving razors/DE razors… anything but disposables (even though those also have SOME benefits)

You should do a "getting ready for the day each morning 1800's style" where you make coffee over a campfire without catching fire & then show how to avoid rattlesnakes in the tall grass as you make your way to the outhouse for the resulting BM because of the coffee lol
Surely, morning routines could be the death of you back then.

As a fan of the old west, I appreciate this. I may have a full beard but I have had a straight razor hot towel shave 3 times in my life...something I wanted to kick off my bucket list since I was a kid growing up watching old cartoon reruns and movies where they were shown. All of them though use modern disposable straight razors...I understand WHY solid straight razors are more of an "At home thing" for most folks, especially over here in the states...health reasons between guest and all that...but I'd still love to get one with a classic razor like that. I use a disposable blade straight razor myself to keep my beard line and neck neat...I've tried pucks of shaving soap, I've tried cream in a tube (I can't stand the canned shaving cream that has propellant anymore now lol), and I have a shaving stick made with actual tallow...all do a good job but my favorite so far is the shaving stick made of tallow which I keep in a vintage 1950's era shaving stick tube I bought off Ebay for around $30ish. One of the places I've had the shave done used shaving gel..and while it is good and makes for a smooth shave...and was cheaper than one other place, I actually preferred the more expensive place for it's atmosphere and the quality of shave I got.

Hi and thanks for watching! I'm a fan of the old west also, one of the reasons I learned how to shave with a straight. :) I still need to go in and have someone give me a hot towel shave. Your comment about the tallow stick is dead on. I've got a tube of 50's shaving cream which is mostly lanolin, and it gives a great shave! With that straight razor face will be smooth for 2-3days using it across the grain. From my personal shave experience its shave is smoother than safety razor but higher chance of cuts .It takes more time to get an irritation free shave.

You know what might have really caught on back then? If they had DRY shavers that worked by simply running them across your face (similar to how a carpet sweeper works)
I know they wouldn't be as low maintenance or as close a shave but it would be less painful and more environmentally friendly
