It's about like they need to add some sort of long distance transport for items. Trains would be cool but i think they should also add the ability to create actual roads that give a speed bonus. So you could have the tier 4 road be at double or 3 times the speed and also give some sort of fuel and maintenance cost reduction for having the smoother roadways.
This is a option, but to add roads they would have to also stop players like me just paving the world. Also there would have to be some update to the pathfinder, which I know the devs are working on. Honestly I think a long distance cable cart would be a great option, and doesn't require a rework of the current pathfinder.
Maybe the area of grass that is present on your island affects how much of an impact air pollution has on your population. That would be hard to balance to make bigger maps not have an enormous advantage though.
Thanks for the video test!!! We missed you while you were sick and hope you are all better. Your other save game is done so glad you are going back now and testing things for us. *If you edit the code on the little trucks to 1000 capacity they haul quicker and save fuel.... but if you do they have issues picking up from places with less capacity than they haul. IE... they will not haul trash from your city if you set them to over 200. So I have the city trash into the largest storage set to 1/2 empty, so the trucks can haul it all in 1-4 trips. But 360 is better so they can grab from the second size storages without issue and the excavators fill them with 6 scoops.
I wouldnt want to edit the files, as that would change my experience and has a risk of influencing my experience of the game. I run mods sometimes on early access games, But ONLY when they are non game changing or its a game ive played a few times already so ive experienced the 'vanilla' game
Rather surprising considering how much more expensive to build / maintain the large trucks are. I suppose they shine brighter over short distances like excavator > mine storage > excavator. Maybe they should get a speed boost that kicks in say after driving 5 sec in a strait line.
As with most things in the game, as you go up in levels things cost more, but they also move more materials per trip. Honestly having all little blue trucks running around would be perfect, but as there is a truck limit you need to upgrade to the larger trucks to move more material and they cost more. Honestly I don't think any of the trucks need a boost yet, the devs are working on optimisations, and the more they do the more efficient im seeing the trucks become
Im not at my computer right now so I can't check the numbers, but before I upgraded to trucks from pickups I distinctly remember looking at the fuel costs of each of them and noticing that trucks were more efficient. That is to say, yes they cost more fuel, but it is more than made up for in their increased capacity; they consume less fuel per unit transported than the pickups. So they are more than worth it my opinion. The only other concern would be maintenance then; again, I can't check now, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is a similar situation to the fuel and bigger was more efficient. Even if it wasn't, maintenance is less of a concern, because I personally pretty much always run at least 2 recycling edicts, so maintenance becomes very cheap.
Should try with having four way connectors every two spots on the conveyors and interweave two conveyor lines. Also maybe a combination of connectors and sorters and the 8 way connectors
Hmmm I doubt that would be much much faster then normal belts. But then again that sound like a pain to build with all the connectors! The balancers I expect would be faster, but I also expect would cost more processing power!
I'm curious about a short stretch of belts in the storage container path for when you do want a bridge. (eg storage -> storage -> 2 belts with bridge -> storage -> storage). Needing only Construction 2 vs 3 is a pretty big advantage.
4 belts in parallel wont slow down thruput, it will take longer due to the lack of 'instant transport time' of going storage to storage. but it will allow trucks to bridge over
This experiment made me realize time passes way to fast in this game to be realistic, which really isn't an issue in my eyes but I can only imagine driving a dump truck for several months just to traverse what appears to be a mile lol! Also you could have paused the storage containers and then un-paused them to start the race, but the result would have still been very obvious as it was! The awesome thing about the storage tank method is you can have a handful of them allowing imports where you are mountain moving to allow every dump truck access to them, inevitably reducing down time even more. And if you think about how they work you can also use the most basic loose storage containers as they will empty out so quickly.
Love this series and the let’s play! Could you do an episode on the mechanics of connectors? I was upgrading my diesel build and could not figure out for the life of me why one of my distiller sets stopped working. Then I found I had mistakenly upgraded a single segment of the main line out attached to that distiller’s connector that didn’t need to be. Deleting that segment and replacing it with a lower level pipe fixed the problem but why??!
Im not sure why it stopped working. I dont think i could do a dedicated video on connectors I just dont think there is enough there to make a whole video on them.
Ahh yes! The only downside to storage "belts" is they cant be driven over and cant change directions without slowing them down with real belt connections , you can zig zag them to left or right atleast lol
For completion i guess. If its not worth a dedicated episode and if the reasults are the same then a coment that pipes and liquids are the same would work.
True Ture! I hadn't considered lvl1 storage. The only catch would be if you had a line going up to the rock wall and you had mega trucks dumping into them, as the trucks might not be able to dump into the small containers if there isn't enough room.
@@JDPlays I was thinking of using lvl 1 to connect 2 worksites, not primarily for truck use. Your testing videos always give me something to think about or do different in my game.
I have not played the game, and I have not caught all of your streams when you play it, but can you use a ship instead? I am thinking back to your recent Factorio series that used the ships to do all of your transportation. Is there a ship available in the game, that would allow you to move material around the island? I believe that you can set up trade routes with other colonies and outposts, but can a freighter be used to haul cargo from one point to another on the same island? Trains, if they ever make it into the game, would be interesting. Could it get up to speed quickly enough to cross the map and dump its cargo into a different storage container? How much diesel would it consume? Double-headed trains would be required, but perhaps this game developer can overcome the problem of unidirectional drive locomotives that exists in Factorio. Instead of acting like an anchor, the locomotive pointing in the opposite direction would push at the same speed, or just 1 km/h slower, so that the locomotives and the cargo wagons are a taught chain for efficient pulling. Thinking back to a different comment that I left, if tarmac and concrete become driveable surfaces, could we see some efficiencies in the delivery times? Obviously, you are not going to beat the long line of storage containers, but they certainly limit the paths that the truck can follow. I like the suggestion that someone made about interrupting the line of storage with a few segments of belt. Perhaps that would be a good place to put a bridge for truck access. Would we see similar results like we do in Factorio, when there are segments of pipe of different length between pumps? The overall flowrate drops as the number of segments increases. Could something similar happen here in Captain of Industry?
Ships are only for transporting between islands, sadly we can't use them for transporting around ours. I would imagine that it would be inefficient considering fuel, maintenance, crew and power vs. trucks, storage and belts.
Ships to move things around the island would be great, but unfortunately isnt a option. As for small belt segments that would work, and it would slow down the 'instant travel time' overall, but if you use 4 belts for a short segment it wouldnt slow down overall thruput and would allow trucks to cross the line of storage containers. Trains I dont think are the option, but I keep coming back to cable carts to move resources around. I think this would be a very viable solution!
@@JDPlays like a some of the ski lifts or the mass transit option in Mérida, Venezuela? There might need to be a limit to the number of carts that can travel along a certain length of cable. Even one of the prequel Star Wars movies used dump buckets that were carried along by a cable or an overhead rail. If it is an overhead rail, then you are almost back to using locomotives. I guess that the main difference would be that the 'engine' would stay in one place, while a full line of cart would complete the loop. I am liking that idea.

O boy!
science time!
Good to know the strengths and weaknesses of the trucks and belts.
With all those surelys at the start of the video I was expecting a Shirley joke.
Next time :)

thanks! now elon time flap transports!
How about loose storage I transfer speed?🤪
I didnt consider using level 1 storage, as mega trucks cant use them, BUT I can confirm their transfer speed is the same as level 2!
Now you got to do the same but with pipes 🤪
Hmmm is there a use for doing this with Pipes?
For completion i guess. If its not worth a dedicated episode and if the reasults are the same then a coment that pipes and liquids are the same would work.
how fast is just using belt balancers?
I know this is a old video but I have to ask where did you get the custom maps?
Since when has there been a calculator at the bottom haha
think the latest patch added it
since a few updates ago :)
Lvl 1 storages are cheaper and probably moves items at the same speed.
