Some of the most FUN, most BEAUTIFUL, most SOUL STIRRING, most HEARTFELT and wonderful concerts I ever went to were Chuck's show in the 70's & early 80's! An EVENT is what they were! And if you bought tees and/or souvenirs, you were buying them from Chuck's Mum & Dad working the booths! We who lived those magical years did not at the time realize how BLESSED by God we were!
Yes it is! It's my favorite of all of Mr. Mangione's pieces. It's has a beautiful melody (and lyrics) and can be played so many ways as a jazz song. I have the original Jazz Quartet album (1972) and the three Jazz Brothers albums. (not easy to find now)
I played this song in my college marching band years ago. It was fun to play it, brings back great memories! I don't think I knew this was a Chuck Mangione song, I am pleasantly surprised.
I remember this broadcast; I had it on cassette tape for the longest time, no idea what ever happened to it. If I remember correctly, there was also a pretty amazing performance of Children of Sanchez in this concert. Any chance you have that?
Oh MAN. Thanks Leatherlips. Awesome find and share. Do I dare ask if you have more clips from this concert? I remember being at my friends house with about 6 other friends who played various high school instruments. A good memory. Just remembered that Chris' solo was cut from the Hollywood Bowl album. Nice to see what it may have sounded like if they kept it in.
leatherlips Thanks leatherlips. Appreciate these. I still remember watching this concert with friends back in the day. I know this concert has been mentioned on the Mangione Magic forum. Glad to see these available for our viewing. Thanks.

leatherlips, do you have any idea what happened to the 2-part video of Chuck and the combo performing Children of Sanchez in Poland? It seems as if it was taken off RUclips, as I can't find it anymore, no matter what I do.
Grant made such great music with Chuck Mangione in the 70's, yet there's a whole generation who will know him best for co-writing the theme from 'Two and a Half Men'.

Chuck opened with this song in Springfield, MA in 1980, it brought tears to my eyes. I was 12 and wore my Feels so Good tee-shirt way too many times.
"Land Of Make Believe" is a great jazz piece and ageless. Thanks Mr. Mangione.

Fantastic!!!!
Argument could be made this was his best quartet. Chris, Grant, JB Jr, Meeks.
There is no argument, that lineup was perfect. I wish they would have stayed together longer and made more music.
I agree 100%, I always felt this was Mangione's "Super Bowl" Team to put it in a sports metaphor. :)
I really enjoy this tempo. It's understandable!!!!
Hermosísima música para una canción de cuna. Grande Mangione

Does anyone know the names of the personnel in the wind section?
One of the trumpet players is Jeff Tyzik
Who is playing guitar on this? It is an amazing solo!
Thomas Pappas Grant Giessman is playing the guitar.
That would be a 25 year young Grant Geissman! :)
