    Are the entry level LTD guitars worth it? In my opinion, absolutely! Check out how I’ve upgraded both my EX-50 and EC-10 to make them what they are today.
    If you look back at some of the guitar legends, even they started with lower end guitars that were then heavily modified into their now custom icons.
    Let us know what you think! Do you think the entry level LTDs are worth it?

    It's definitely worth looking into putting machine screw slots in the neck joint to replace the woodscrews in the neck. It really helps with sustain and makes it sound almost like a neck thru.

    I have an LTD M-50 that I've had since I was 13, and I'm now 29. That thing is built like a tank. It's been through rookie mistakes, shows, drops, practices, other hands playing it, and it still looks great and sounds great. I had a V-50 that fell apart after 2 years that I bought 8 years ago....the build quality on the entry level guitars doesn't seem to be the same. My M-50 hasn't been upgraded at all, and maintains tuning, and the neck feels like a higher quality guitar, and it also is on the road with me now, as a trucker.
    Wife ordered me an Arrow 200 for Xmas, couldn't quite afford the 1000 that was on the wall.

    • @DawnofExistence
      @DawnofExistence  3 года назад

      Sorry to hear that about the V-50! I have noticed that the newer entry level V’s and EX’s seem to get beat up much easier. In my experience the Korean, Indonesian, and Vietnam made LTDs seem to take a better beating than the ones made in China; I am making that statement having only played two that were built in China and I tend to be fairly careful with my instruments. I still think they’re great guitars for the price though.

    My first electric guitar was an Ltd EX400BD (it has a black diamond plate on the front). This guitar is with me the half of my life, got it to my 16th birthday from my dad and my grandparents, now I'm 32. It isn't really a beginners guitar, the price tag was 750€.
    It had a set of EMG81/60 pick ups. The 81 broke down and I changed it to a set of Seymour Duncan SH1B/SH2N. In my opinion the better sounding pick ups. I love this guitar, some people wanted to buy it, but this guitar will stay with me till the end.

    agree they're super worth it. the esp ltd ax-50 was my first guitar. made in indonesia but seems to be super high quality compared with my korean and japanese guitars. like you, i ended up upgrading to EMGs (went with 85/81 set) and love it. put on 10-52s and tuned down to drop c, it sounds great and plays great. the wood is quite soft so does ding easily but the finish has never cracked on me. have recently owned an EC1000 too which to be honest i didn't see what was particularly great about it that made it cost so much more, was still a great guitar though!

    Love the Hypocrisy shirt man, one of the first metal bands from my country that I started listening to together with At The Gates, Inflames, Soilwork, Dark Tranquility and Scar Symmetry.
    However.
    I remember back in the day when LTD guitars gave you premium pickups like EMG's and a neck tru body design for around 800$/€ brand new, today you get LTD in house pickups which are not very good even if you buy a guitar for 1000€ =( Today you will have to pay like 1300€/$ or more for an LTD guitar with Neck through body and better pickups than LTD in house pickups =(
    It is the same thing with Schecter guitars, they also gave you good specs for around 500€/$, today they are the same as LTD, over 1000€/$ to get something decent. If you want a good guitar with premium specs today below 1000€/$ you have to go with Solar Guitars, If I am remembering correctly they have the A2.6 models which have Seymour Duncan designed Solar pickups which sounds great and a Neck Through body design with a Floyd Rose for around 700€/$ brand new.
    Kramer guitars are also back with guitars like the Nightswan guitar that has Seymour Duncan JB's and also an original Floyd Rose 1000 for around 700€/$ which is INSANE. To get a guitar with Floyd Rose 1000 on a ESP/LTD or Schecter guitar you would have to pay at least 1400$/€ today.
    So my answer is no, I do not think entry level and especially intermediate guitars from brands like LTD or Schecter is worth it anymore, they have become greedy companies, which offer you less than before. If you are looking for a entry level guitar I would go "S by SOLAR" or Ibanez, some Jacksons are cool too. Some Squiers like the Classic Vibe if you want something closer to an original strat.
    Note that I have not tried as many entry level guitars from LTD or Schecter for that matter as I have with intermediate guitars, the kind of guitars you might buy as your second guitar, guitars at 400 to 800€/$ I think it is here that LTD and Schecter has lost it completetly , where they used to give you really good instruments for they money you paid, all those guitars seems to have moved above 1000€/$ right now which is sad.
    And for intermediate players for people that have been playing a couple of years, Solar guitars, Kramer is back and awesome for the price, Jackson has a few models around 600€/$ with duncan designed pickups, some Ibanez are good in the intermediate section as well where you get a lot of mahogany tonewood, fast slim necks and good Edge tremolo bridges. Stay clear of anything from ESP/LTD and Schecter between 400 to 1000€/$ until they wake up and start giving people more guitar for their money like they used to. There might still be some entry level/beginner guitars from LTD and Schecter that are decent like the MH-10 / EC-10 and such guitars, but when I tried them back to back with "S" by Solars comparable guitars, I found the Solar guitars more premium and felt better to play.

    Never owned an LTD until recently. I bought a Viper-256 because I had the money to burn and it was discounted for being B stock. I was blown away by the purchase. Way better than any Epiphone I've tried and far better than entry level Jacksons or Deans

      @@DawnofExistence can't wait to try a higher level LTD and a legit ESP. I'm amazed at the quality they can squeeze into their price points. As we guitarists know, sometimes a cheap guitar can play great but maybe the finish or the electronics leave a bit to be desired. I honestly think if you're changing anything on these LTDs it's purely out of personal preference. I want to change the pickups to Bare Knuckle WarPigs but I really don't feel like I have to. Again, I just want to. For anyone who might be on the fence about picking one of these up, I'd say jump off that fence and experience what you've been missing out on. my EC10 flat black is like a tough, reliable, badass buddy that's always got my back, I love it love it love it, and honestly would have paid much more for it if it weren't for a few minor quality control issues(slightly misaligned tuners, not enough attention to finish work on fret edges, better truss rod cover etc) simple stuff anyone would expect in this price range. one thing I'd add, is the value of having a real pro set up any stringed instrument for you is priceless, in some situations it meant the difference between love and hate for me... unless you've been doing it for years know your shit. after setting mine up I've had zero issues with staying in tune, and haven't even switched out the stock pickups, I think they sound amazing for what I need it for, even with the horrible undeserved abuse I put it thru when i first got it( I treat it much better now, I promise lol).

      The flat black ones are bad ass! Yeah there’s definitely some finish work that could use some attention but honestly for the price, they’re much better than other instrument brands I’ve seen. I have to say though, all of my entry level LTDs have surprisingly great fretwork on them. 100% agree with you on the setup; it can make or break an instrument. I think every new instrument deserves a great/professional setup and all of mine are rock solid instruments.

    Great video! You look and sound great on camera and look really comfortable. but you totally aged yourself by saying you learned from books and magazines hahaha! • @DawnofExistence
      @DawnofExistence  5 лет назад +1

      Haha! Thanks!
      Surprisingly, I only had to slightly adjust the neck to get them to feel really good. However, after playing my E-II EX, I’ve realized I need to do some more adjustments on the neck of both of these guitars.
      The biggest complaint I had was the bridge on the EC; they’re obviously inexpensive parts. When I bought it, it was set incredibly high and the intonation was way off, like 10+ cents @ the 12th fret on some strings. Obviously, after fixing that it played great.
      Most of the upgrades also allowed me to change all my hardware to black as well. 🤘🏻

    I only have a few guitars, & was thinking of getting one of these ESPs, hence me watching this. My favorite guitar is my 2006 Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster. It's got all the whiz-bang features you might want, and it's made in 'Murica, locking tuners, roller-nut, humbuckinig single-coils with that whole S2 switching thing for a total of 10 different combinations (well, 9 actually, 10 theoretically), & then upgraded whammy. Not a locking trem like the Floyd & Kahler on my other guitars, but a fender one which pretty darn well. It'll do dives & ups. I describe it thus: all my guitars are guitars, but the Strat is a musical instrument. It feels finely polished when I play it. I guess the one I play the most after that is a Carvin, don't know the model, but it's a "Super Strat'." One guitar I have that I'm super impressed with is a mid-80's Jackson. The thing is a tank. I need to get me a modren one! A guitar I borrowed for a while & really liked was a Gibson SG, whatever the regular one is. Solid build & stayed in tune. I might try one of these imports, though. The only one I have is a 1982 Ibanez Musician. The rest are all 'Murican. Peace.

      @@DawnofExistence Thank you for your response! I'd try an Ibanez out, if I were you. They're real good guitars for the money. Solid workmanship & materials, decent electronics, frets spaced correctly. HOWEVER, I have an Ibanez with gold-toned hardware. The guitar is 37 years old, & the gold color has worn off in a lot of places, places where I contact the guitar when playing. Now, I KNOW that people like that whole "reliced" look. I don't. I try to keep my guitars not banged up and in good condition. I don't want my hardware to look messed up, like I don't care, or are careless. I would never actually PAY MONEY for it to be done artificially. That's just stupid on top of poseur. The Strat is awesome. I love that guitar. I'm with you on Jacksons. I have one like what you describe, a mid-eighties beast. I don't know where you live, but it is interesting (to me) to note that many major guitar companies, including Fender, including G&L, including Rickenbacher, including Music Man, including Jackson, are all headquartered & guitars manufactured right around where I live. The Jacksons used to be made up in Duarte. I don't know when they moved, but of course Fender owns them now. So the thing I love about the Jackson, the *things* I love about the Jackson are: the weight. It's heavy. It weighs a ton. Well, not really, but it's heavy. I like the through-body neck. The combination of the weight & the construction makes it sustain like a monster. I like the attention paid to the manufacturing. They were paying attention to the quality of their guitars. I like the precision of the manufacturing. Nothing is slightly off. Everything is precise. I like the fret-board. It's very playable. Mine came with a Kahler tremelo. Can't get parts for that any more (Kahler also manufactured & HQ right near where I live and I STILL can't get needed parts!) so swapped it out for a FR. The electronics & pickups are also top notch. No need to swap stuff out, it works real well. Same with the Fender. That's something you're spot on about with my Ibanez. It's a Jazz guitar (I got a deal) but I play rock. HARD rock. The harder, the better, & them fancy-schmancy refined oh-look-how-upper-class-I-am-&-don't-my-geetar-pickups-just-scream-"class" just don't cut it so I swapped the bridge pickup out for something with some gain, which the stock pickups absolutely don't have. It'll make Muzak all day, but not Motley. Good luck with all your guitar ventures. You will get all the guitars you want. It's what happens to guitar players that don't do terrible things: the world rewards them with more guitars. Peace. ;-)

Honestly, if I was going to consider buying a “classic” style Les Paul, V, or Explorer, I’d just buy an Edwards and know that I will be happy.

    My first guitar was an ESP F-50 I bought for $100 from a friend in high school.
    It hangs next to my bed to this day.
    It's not classy looking like the Tele, or as tight sounding as the SG but it's got a charm to it that I have never recaptured with another guitar; and a sustain like an acoustic thanks to the string-through bridge.
    Needs some TLC (new pots, actually solder in the passive EMGs I was gifted instead of the twist & tape I did when I was 15, new tuners, thorough cleaning) but I don't think I'd ever part with it. I'd sooner sell the '67 Gibson acoustic than part with my LTD

      @@DawnofExistence definitely. It being an inexpensive guitar (the ignorance of youth certainly played a role too) made me much more comfortable doing things like disassembling the whole thing just to see how it goes together and what each part is, adjusting the truss rod, messing with bridge configurations, installing pickups incorrectly, etc

    90s? common man, did you also found the secret fountain of youth like Brad Pitt, Will Smith and Keanu Reeves? share us the location.
    I have a few questions about this guitar, i love the explorer style body:
    - I play in classical position. Playing it in normal position caused so much back pain, when i shifted to classical style it felt normal and even natural. So can you play this ex in classical style position? While sitting and standing?
    - Is the body weight light? Les Paul is notorious for its weight and can cause shoulder pain for playing ti for longer periods when you are standing so is the weight of this guitar evenly distributed?
    - Lastly is this easy to carry? Other Ex style guitars come with such bog cases owing to its shape so is this a problem with this guitar?

    • @DawnofExistence
      @DawnofExistence  3 года назад

      Hahaha yeah I'm 36.
      I generally play in classical position while sitting with the EX; it is much more comfortable/natural. I think you would be fine while standing as well.
      The EX-50 is fairly light weight; I think around 7-8. Les Pauls are incredibly heavy and I'm used to playing fairly heavy basses. Some Les Pauls are in the 13# range. As far as it being equally distributed, a lot of people complain of neck dive but I've never had an issue with that with either of my EXs.
      I'm not going to lie, the case is large. It's a little shorter than my bass cases but about 1.5 inches wider. I will say that since ESP places the body at a slight angle, their cases are not as big as a Gibson Explorer case.
      Hope this helps!

If it’s an EX (the pointier model, like I have in this video) it completely depends on the model, condition, and if there are any upgrades. You can figure out the year by the serial number; the first two numbers after the letters are the year. These models should also have the model at the 12th fret. The MH-10 is an awesome guitar! I really like the combination of the M series and Horizon body. I recent grabbed an M-10 for an upcoming music video and it plays great. If you’re dropping to C or B, I’d recommend getting thicker gauge strings. Like I said in the video, we use DR Strings DDTs in B and they are rock solid. I donno if I should get the LTD Gh 200 or a jackson warrior js32 which is half it s price as an absolute beginner. Should I invest in the LTD? I 've watched many clips and samples in comparison between them two and the LTD sounded meaner, which I like. But having no prior experience with electric guitars I went here to ask you and the community. Also, what amp would you guys recommend?

    • @DawnofExistence
      @DawnofExistence  4 года назад +1

      The GH200 is a great guitar but also quite the investment. The pickups that come with it are what is giving it that meaner sound. Jackson also makes great guitars but I haven’t played many of their entry level guitars. The warrior can be a bit tricky to play while sitting down though.
      Another option could be the LTD EC-256. It plays just like the GH-200 but is actually better quality wood out of all three of them. The EC-256 is mahogany, the GH-200 is basswood, and I think the JS32 is poplar.
      I would definitely recommend playing any/all of them before buying to see how they feel to you. For the price, the EC-256 maybe what you’re looking for.
      As for amps, are you looking for a practice amp or something that could also be used to play shows with?

      I’ve never played a multi-scale, just not my thing, but $1400 seems high.

    • @9hk38f
      @9hk38f 2 года назад

      @@DawnofExistence I think I just picked a bad model for my first LTD. I would say it was a build and QC control issue. For one, the truss rod cover is not flush with the nut. Since the nut is on a angle, since its multiscale. Not the end of the world, but for the price, they could of made the cover flush. The volume knob is a tad to close. You accidently bump into it, ever so slightly. You don't even notice. But after a half hour of playing, the volume knob is half way down from accidently hitting it. And the high E and B strings came a little corroded. Obviously a string issue is no big deal. We all put on our string of choice after getting a new guitar. But again, for the price, they really should come with brand new strings. And my tone knob came very loose. A very easy fix. Just had to tighten it up. It even came with the right size allen keys. BUT AGAIN, for the price. And the frets are supposedly stainless steel. That's what the specs say. But they are the cheapest feeling frets ever! They almost feel like hard plastic! On a positive, the neck is very smooth, and has great playability. The guitar came, almost perfectly intonated. The hipshot bridge is nice. The bridge pickup is a Seymour Duncan Nazgul. AMAZING for metal and high gain! But the neck pickup, is the Seymour Sentient. Sounds good enough, but very lacking in sustain. Another positive, its VERY light weight, but sturdy. They range from 6-7 lbs. So its a decent enough guitar, but not even close to being worth 1,400$ It does sound pretty good on the bridge pickup. I am a lead junkie, but this guitar is my rhythm guitar. Has nice chunky low tones. If I paid 800$ for it, I'd be singing praises. But not 1,400$.

      I got my E-II used in mint condition for just under $1100.
      I know a lot people have issues with volume knob placement but I think since I’m only a rhythm player it doesn’t get in my way haha.

      @@DawnofExistence I got it new through Sweetwater. I'm sure they would of accepted a refund. But I find the process of shipping a guitar, VERY daunting! And what happens if it were to get damaged during shipment? How can I prove I didn't damage it? I do play the guitar a lot. And it is basically my rhythm guitar. It just wasn't worth the price. I am guessing, being a 6 string multiscale, is why it cost so much. But I have to say, I will most likely stick to my main, ride or die brand. Which is Schecter! I have low end, through high end Schecters. And even my Schecter Demon 6, which is a very cheap model, is AMAZING! And my 1,400$ E-1 Evil Twin, plays like a 3,000$ guitar! I am sure other LTD models are great. Maybe in a few years, I might give them another shot. But for now, Schecter has never let me down.

      @DawnofExistence  4 года назад +2

      Adrian G I don’t work for ESP but from my knowledge, if you live in the US you cannot custom order an MX220/MX250. From my knowledge, it is possible to custom order one from within Japan and I’ve heard some shops in Australia have handled custom orders for them in the past as well. A custom order, if you can find a dealer willing to work with you from abroad, for an MX would probably run around $5k, not including any other import/custom fees, and take about 12-18 months.
      The first alternative is to find a legit MX second hand from Japan or even Australia, Indonesia, or even better North America (again, assuming you are in NA). Check out Reverb.com, Ishibashi, Ikebe, TCGakki, just to name a few. You can find awesome deals from around $3500 all the way up to absurd prices around $10k.
      The second alternative, which would be my preference, is order your own ESP custom guitar, other than the MX body, and build it completely to your specs!
      All I can say is stay away from Replicas, because you will only be disappointed.
      Good luck, Adrian!

    Ltd is by far not an entry guitar brand

      I mean, you can say that, but they have an entry level tier.
      The 100 series and below is meant to be their entry level even if they are much better than other brands at the same price point.

    Entry level guitars are never ever worth it. Don't fool yourself. Don't waste your money.
    High end guitars are never ever worth it. Don't fool yourself. Don't waste your money.

      Play what you think plays well. High end guitars are usually only worth the money for the person buying it.
