  • Known by music fans as the "Carnegie Hall of the West," Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena is one of the finest concert halls in the United States and in the world. Built in 1974, it has near-perfect acoustics and has hosted performances by such musical greats as Arthur Rubinstein, Luciano Pavarotti, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and many others.
Ambassador Auditorium is well-known as a striking example of 1970s LA modernist architecture and Mid-Century Modern Design. Ambassador Auditorium was once part of the larger Ambassador College campus (which has since moved elsewhere). The overall design of the campus was created by the architecture firm of Daniel, Mann, Johnson, and Mendenhall (DMJM) in the 1960s.
This elegant auditorium building was designed by architect Peter J. Holdstock. Its symmetrical shape and vertical white columns evoke such classical buildings as the Parthenon in Athens or the Temple of Solomon in ancient Israel, streamlined and modernized for the 20th century.
Enjoy my video review of the architecture of Ambassador Auditorium and the music it has hosted! The auditorium is currently home to the Pasadena Symphony and holds many great events. I definitely recommend you visit it!
