What Is A Hot Wheels Treasure Hunt Or Super Treasure Hunt?

- 2020 too! The info in this video is valid through 2020 as well. The focus of this video is to help you understand what is a Hot Wheels Treasure Hunt and what is a Hot Wheels Super Treasure Hunt. This is the current information for 2012-2020. If it continues into 2021, I will update this text. Expand this for lots of info!
Hot Wheels Treasure Hunts are what the collector world would understand to be chase pieces. They are produced in lower quantities that regular cars. They only appear in a 4-week production cycle and do not appear in later assortments. They are NOT in every case and if they are, there will only be one. Now there could be one super AND one basic but there won't be two basics and/or two Supers.
A little history first. From 1995 through 2006, there were 12 Treasure Hunts each year. They were indicated by a green-stripe on the card and "Treasure Hunt", "T-Hunt", "TH", or a Treasure Hunt icon on the package. About each month, a new Treasure Hunt would be in the mix. During this period, the Hunt did not specifically have to have rubber tires (known as Real Riders). Most did but some did not. The Blimp didn't even have wheels LOL
2007 was the first year that Mattel started with Super Treasure Hunts. From 2007 to 2010, there were 12 Basic Treasure Hunts and 12 Super Treasure Hunts. The green stripe banner continued. The basic and the Super would be the same model but the Super would have rubber tires, special paint.
In 2011, Mattel increased Treasure Hunts to 15 per year. 15 basics, 15 Supers. Green stripes continued as well as the plastic tire VS rubber tire distinction.
2012. Mattel decided to change the program a bit. They still had 15 basics but the 15 Supers were not the same models as the basics. They were Superized versions of one of the basic cars. In other words, Collector #110 was the '67 Chevelle SS 396 from the Muscle Mania series. The Superized version, known as the Super Treasure Hunt, was still Collector #110 but the model had Spectraflame paint, rubber Real Rider tires, deco's or stripes on the top-side of the model which the basic did not, "Treasure Hunt" on the rear fender and "TH" on the front fender.
2013. Mattel finally retires the green stripe. It was too easy for people to just pick them off of the pegs or out of the case because people only looked for the green stripe. For basic Hunts, the new indicator was a Circle-Flame logo. Mattel has used this logo before so don't be fooled into thinking that any model with the circle-flame logo is a Treasure Hunt. This only applies to 2013-2015 (and possibly beyond). Supers continued. So far, they always have Real Rider rubber tires and special paint. They almost always have a TH tampo and stripes on the topside of the model.
For Basic Treasure Hunts, 2013-15, on USA packages, behind the car, in the blister, it will usually state "This symbol on the vehicle let's you know it is hard to find and highly collectable". That text is not available on World-Wide or International packages.
2014 Super Treasure Hunts followed the same program as 2013.
2015 Super Treasure Hunts followed the same program as 2013-14.

Finally someone who doesn’t mind opening cars! That’s what they’re meant for! They aren’t meant to be kept in their boxes they were designed for fun

RIP green stripe on side of card :(
the peoples faces are priceless when you opened the supers
Superb summary of TH / TH$ Mark. Had to smile when you said "rubber paint" at [2:40], but really enjoyed watching and refining the knowledge we have based on your expertise. Thanks = )
thank you for being so informative. I am new to this hobby and I am going to be able to keep this info in mind when I am out looking for new cars to purchase. the bottom line is to collect what you like and that there is no right or wrong way to collect. for me. it is a fun and relaxing hobby
There you go! Buy what you like, buy what you can afford and enjoy the hobby. Of course, be sure to take care of your responsibilities as well =)
thank you bills always come first then hot wheels
@@jb-qj9rz how is life
Can't thank you enough for such a detailed and yet easy explanation of commons, TH, and STH throughout the years and now. I probably ran into a lot of TH and STH and didn't pick them for the color differences. Now I'll be more aware. Thank you 🙌🏻.
You're the best teacher for new Hot Wheels collectors.
I feel my blood pressure rising just thinking how these cars are nabbed by collectors before they hit the pegs where I live
If only the Shane Warne limited edition car was a 10.000 car, we both know it was a much higher number than that. Even with me paying $0.83 cents I felt ripped off, some people paid $8.00 per car
Yep you certainly do like to open cars, but many cry when they see you rip into the rare stuff
leokimvideo right don't you just want to pee on them.....I mean piss you off!
leokimvideo I know right! It’s so annoying
I rip off my treasure hunts except for my first ever treasure hunt cause its so special and I hide it to a special place were no one will rip off or destroy the card

Glad they got rid of the green strip make it harder and harder to find 👊✌️
Thank you for the video! And for updating the description as well! Very informational and helpful
When i was little, i had a rubber tire hotweel car. It was my favorite car out of all. I lost it after moving to a new house. I always thought its rare but didn't understand why it was different from others.
You just answered my 2020 question six years ago.
Awesome Regular Treasure Hunts and Super Treasure Hunts Review and Collection You Have Mark Congrats Thumbs Up.
Well, started to look at my collection more closely and found 2 of them. Paradigm Shift from 2015 and a Ford Fiesta "12 from 2014.
Thanks for the video! Now I gonna start hunt for these.
Very informative! And I LOVE that you open them!!
Thanks man! This video is very helpful to a new collector like me and I bid good luck to finding more special cars.
Today I was looking around Walmart when I found a gtr super treasure hunt, was really happy.
Wow, thank you so much for this info, I'm new to collecting HW cars, so, I'll be heading to my local Walmart tomorrow morning. Here in Puerto Rico, there's lot's of collectors but not all over the Island.
Haven't seen videos of you for a while what's going on I like when you explain stuff I'm a collector thank you sir appreciate you lot of love
I love the advice, i never seen or held a treasure hunt but when i have time at target or a different store i will be looking for them. I like collecting ford Mustang's and Shelby's.
I got into about 300 cars before I learned that this can be a serious hobby so I learned everything I could I am near 1000 cars now
How did you become knowledgeable about the Hobby along with the Do's and Don't.

Enjoy your videos very much. What does today’s 2019 treasure hunt and super treasure hunts look like? Thanks keep up the good work.
I'm like you. I started out by not opening them, but decided against it because I love to admire their detail. So I unpack mine right away and put them on display. I plan to buy a mirror backed display case soon.

the super paint is like spectraflame paint and the wheels are rubber tires and racegrooves you mentioned the 2012 regular treasure hunts having the circle flame logo which hot wheels started the flame logo in 2013 and has continued in 2015 with the treasure hunts and I have 10 2012 regular treasure hunts
Another great, informative video. Thanks, Mark!
Nice info for newer collectors Buddy!
Oh my gosh! I just found a Treasure hunt car in my collection! I didn't even know it! WOOT! Thanks!
Thanks Mark I enjoy watching your videos . And one other the thing that guy that had that fit the other month about you cracking supers was forced to watch this lol
LOL He needs to see that they look so much nicer out of the package =)
thanks for the video man. this helped me a lot on how to spot the differences. THE RUBBER TIRES LOL
I just stumbled upon this video and now I want to go treasure hunting at Walmart! I have some of my old ones from when I was a kid. They are over 30 years old now. Maybe add a few more on the shelf with them!
Great cars. Very interesting! :-)
hi Mark, this is an awesome Treasure Hunt video especially for newbies and rookies in the Hot Wheels collecting scene. well done. by the way, didn't the "flame logo" regular treasure hunts begin in 2013 and continued into 2014 series of cars--i don't think they started in 2012 as you mentioned. i think the first flame logo TH cars for the 2013 series started appearing on shelves late 2012. all the best, and keep 'em coming
Is the dan wheldon car from 2012 a super treasure hunt?
I have a Jet Threat 3.0 with rubber tires, it was a navy blue with flames, wonder how rare it is?
I wonder if Mattel is aware of the misspelling on those TH cards. The card says, "This symbol...let's you know...etc". The word LET'S means "let us" , as in "let's go get some Hot Wheels" lol!! The word "lets" means: allows.
Great job! Very detailed descriptions! I'm going to check all of my cars now. Thanks!
rocket4l You're welcome!
Thank you so much for making this video! I can now understand the difference between a th and sth.
Zachary Kidd You're welcome!
This is a nice video. Good job! BTW there is a treasure hunt that I got coming which is a Twang Thang Black with chrome guitars on it.
This is what I am awaiting to come to me. (This is a copy and paste from a comment on another video but it's relevant)
I'm awaiting some Hotwheel cars. I got the Dark Rider Series all four in
a group purchase. And 7 of 9 of the Twang Thangs. I also got all three
of these Crazy Classic 5 packs. Which there are three of them.
Dear Racegrooves, I really enjoy your videos, i learn a lot, especially your unboxing videos. I have been collecting since 98 but find myself at times very frustrated. I feel like im a day late and a dollar short 90% of the time in finding these cars, and always feel like im still a rookie at knowing what the heck is going on in the collector world, how do you get so much info, do you have any suggestions . Also, I'm one of those guys who simply collect for the enjoyment of collecting for fun, not for reselling. Thank you, mrrpepsi24
Mad props to the money that went into making this video!
Thank you! Very nice to know what to look for besides if I find something interesting
Actually the TH is on all of them, they are just really small and you can’t see them and they are hidden well. Once I got a Datsun super and I couldn’t find the TH, but the I saw it was hidden under the bumper
In one of my local stores I found 3 of the custom El Camino treasure hunt all at the front row of the pegs
Thank You! That video is really helpful! ;)
Is there any way to identify regular treasure hunts if they are not in their packaging for pre 2012 cars?
I got a lot international with that flame symbol on card thanks for the great info
I'm hoping to get some treasure hunts one of these days, there pretty slick cars :D
Hi mark you think you can do a video about the limited warranty on these Hotwheels i dont really understand it. I have a super with the hood stripes peeled off, it doesn't look good and its my only super. I'll appreciate that thanks.
Thanks for the information ! and great video
Wow. Can't wait to go looking for these. This makes my new hobby so much cooler. Any suggestions for good forums/online communities I should join?
So for supers you can get any colour stripes?? Like in kmart (walmart basically) so you have to go through all like 100 cars and check for th on the car. Does it take like 1 hour to do it??
thanks for making this video - and explaining the differences - MUCH appreciated!!
You're welcome!
Great video.. I know I learned something . And so did my son. He learned he needs more cars :)
Just started collecting again had loads when I was younger
Extremely great info dude! 💪
I collect mostly muscle cars regardless if they are treasure or not!
Me to.
yes baby!! set them free, I am a car collector not a card collector =P
2:38 "super treasure hunts have rubber tires as to rubber paint" 😂😂
Cool stash I got a few supers n basic u inspired me to make vids hope I can make the time
Some years ago a marketing man in a toy company was thinking. "How do we get people more excited about our products? I know, lets put a stripe on the car and call it a super treasure hunt.
Thanks for the info (even though I know it already) but it helps out the newer collectors I will be differently be showing this video to my collector buddy thanks!
I have the Toyota 2000GT of 2013 and this car have a plastic base, and the STH of the same model have metal base.
Lesson learned, from now on i check every blister before leaving the store :D
It is hard to find Treasure Hunt at my local retail store (indonesia) still not yet to sell new 2018 line up. Unless you want to open every box.
First treasure hunt that I found was a Fangster, then I found a rescue duty TH last month.
I really want to know : if Twin Mill , Twin Mill II or Twin Mill III have a TH or STH
does anyone know the significance of the Aurora Fire department charger? i need to buy this one now since my hometown is aurora Il. that is awesome!
Thanks, this is very helpful to a newbie like me!

Very interesting, cool presentation. Thanks.
hey man good video..do u think u will do an updated version of this style of video? i just started collecting and would appreciate any info on newer TH cars..thanks
Hi, the info in this video is still true. 2019 Supers have rubber wheels, special paint and often a TH in the decos. They should have a gold circle-flame logo behind the car, inside the blister.
Basic Treasure Hunts have a silver circle-flame logo behind the car. It will have another one hidden in the decos on the car. Regular paint, basic wheels.
Hello, tx for the great detailed video. So i went to look at some big grocery shops, and found there to be only HotWheels in 5-10-20 car packs only. It was rather hard to find individually sold HotWheels. So I wonder, do the Treasure or Super TH series only come into the individual packed ones? I went through many that came per 5 cars sets or higher and coudnt fint anything special in between. So therefore the question, is TH or STH cars reserved for individual packaged HotWheels? Thank You.
Your understanding is correct. Don't waste your time looking for treasure hunts or super treasurements in multipacks. I can't say that they have never appeared there because there have been mistakes or mis-packs. You should be focusing on the singles for them. BTW, the 5-packs/ multipacks can be nice for multipack exclusive colors.
Found a 2017 TH 1967 Tooned Camaro today.
Is their an hotwheels that it is treasure hunt but superized version or a treasure hunt with rubber tires?
awesome!i woudnt dare open all mine!i8 have opened a chevelle super though and i dont regret it!
This is super helpful, thanks a lot!
Very good knowledge. I appreciate the education. Thank you.
Do you know exactly how much they built for each t-hunt model cause I found them quiet often. Currently I have more than a dozen t-hunts. I just bought two t-hunt tooligan few minutes before I write this comment.
I Like This series of Past Years"TH"... Very Informative for the NEWBEE Like Me, TY Race Grooves
I wanna go looking for super treasure hunts but I have no way to get there
A super without the gold flame on the card is an error or is there something special about it?
That gasser is soooooo awesome!!!
Must say that Ferrari 599xx is one of my favorites. Great video. Tx
I know this is a bit late but use acetone to open the blister so it doesn't get ripped
Great video....Already subscribed
It is really hard to find Supers in International cases?
I fouund a 1977 Dodge Charger funny car @ a flea market. Is it TH ,STH or just ordinary HW? Is there a list on tha web I can research & find out?
how the heck do u open those packages without riping the package! p.s I love your channel!! you've been such a mentor for me! I started last year and now I've got 5 supers and 142 cars in my collection
+Cool Creeper Boom I have years of practice opening packages =)
Thanks and happy collecting!
2012 didn't have the flame logo. The 2012 Ferrari 599XX was the first super I found in the wild and it's a beauty.
Super Explanation thank you
my country is kinda hard to found treasure hunts since they only sell normal cars no holidays or events of hotwheels even toys r us i dont really seen any treasure hunt
Awesome and cool to know about supper treasure hunt and regular treasure hunt
Great video :)
I noticed also that the suppers you showed had black bases. So is it safe to say that one thing to look for is the black base?
EastcoastFlagcarsJohnny nope. Not an indicator.
I must admit it's a fun hobby Been collecting since 2000 . Times have changed tho lol bring back the green stripe.
Yes put the green stripe back on .Lot easier.
Nah I like that they make it harder, it's a treasure hunt for a reason! You gotta hunt for it! Also makes it harder for people to easily identify them and grab them all off the shelves.
what if a child were to buy a super and throw it around like a normal HW...
I'm sure it's happened.
where did you buy those th?
