In retrospect this was an infinitely life-changing milestone for me personally. Ed got Dar and I together in San Diego, and it was love at first sight! We clicked instantly and Dar soon after came to stay with us in Oregon. We would even insist on including the other when invited to Comic shows, taking every opportunity to hang. The how & why Darwyn jumped into the X-Force stuff I was doing and Dar and Bone playing in my Madman world. Dar was a crash course in confidence and uncompromising purpose. I still hear his voice when faced with crucial choices. I miss him terribly, but so grateful for every second spent with him. It all started here.

Would love to see you guys cover the Jonah hex issues Darwyn Cooke drew, I believe #33 and #50

06:34 I agree, this style of layout is really cool, it gives a nice sense of rhythm. If you haven't checked out Franquin's run of a Spirou, he was a master of using this layout in the early to mid 50s, The Wrong Head, The Dictator and the Mushroom and The Rhinoceros's Horn are all great examples.

Darwyn Cooke does fill in for an issue or two of x statix as well as the wolverine/Doop mini series. Paul pope also does an xstatix fill in issue

Wolverine & Doop with art by Cooke and J Bone is great. Laura Allred does the colors and it really makes the book stand out

Literally came here to say that, the colours on that book are amazing at setting tone.

I'll be honest, I was torn on the Brubaker/Cooke reconstruction of Catwoman in 2002. It was a way more grounded, gritty take on Selina and her world. I missed the fun, fierce purple and black costume but over time I grew to love most of the Brubaker run. It gave Selina character development and actually addressed her obsession with stealing.

I fanboyed as soon as I saw this! I had this issue - might still have. I've always loved Catwoman - a favorite Batman issue being #460.

The Paul Gulacy run on Catwoman was pretty good for his more “modern work”. I think it was issues 25-39

One of my favorite artists. Selina's Big Score would be one I would enjoy seeing you guys cover. The Parker books I still give people who are down with crime comics. Even his Spirit run was good... Not a book that alot of people have alot of success pulling off. You guys rock.

Sean Konot, the letterer of this, also lettered Gilbert Hernandez's Girl Crazy for Dark Horse, which might be why Ed thinks the look of the letters is aping Gilbert.

No. It’s the 80+ issues of Love and Rockets that make me think it. Sean must have made a font from Gilbert’s lettering -Ed

I bought the Catwoman of East End omnibus a year or so ago because I love Brubakers writing and my surname is Cooke ( I'm English ) so I wondered if we were related 😂
Had zero interest in Catwoman or most superheroes but my word what an outstanding omnibus it is.
    Fantastic writing and wonderful Art.
It only cost me £45 new too.
    Bargain!

This was the first and last time I collected Catwoman. I have almost the entire Brubaker run right up until DC tried to pull it into an event.

Not sure if it was intended or not but this Catwoman is such a parallel to June Tarpé Mills Miss Fury from the Golden Age in both design and themes.

Catwoman becoming a hero and protecting the people of the East End is a very natural progression for her character.
She's a survivor of abuse and trafficking, so of course she'd want to make sure that other don't suffer the way she once did.
