Some answers to some questions about AAA POP and self-publishing: We DID publish monthly for an entire year +. Had to for survival. Ultimately, the administrative requirements, tho exciting making every decision, a massive time/energy suck.
Following THE ATOMICS, going monthly with X-FORCE/X-STATIX was a breeze when publishing responsibilities were taken off the table.
We did 16 issues of The Atomics, several collections (over printing the guts for collections was the best decision we made financially) And one-shots for MR. GUM (with J.Bone), IT GIRL (with Chynna Clugston, Joelle Jones, and later Jamie S.Rich & Mike Norton at Image), and SPACEMAN (with fully painted separate backgrounds by Lawrence Marvit to give it a "Space Ghost cel animation vibe"). Spun off co-publishing with ONI PRESS from time to time (where our Dark Horse editor, Bob Schreck, had inspired us with the courage to self publish. Had to try it at least once) like CRASH METRO & the STAR SQUAD with Martin Ontiveros.
AAA POP also published a 4-issue "VAULT" series that was like a commentary track to our careers up to that point with articles, rarities, ads, scrap book stuff...and then soft and hard cover collections of everything, with binding being the only major expense since we'd over-printed all the guts. Extremely profitable, but made for instant sell out limited editions since we should have printed more guts. Inaccurately under-estimating demand.
Ironically, when starting out, newsprint cost waaaay more than the slick stock everyone was wanting. We finally switched since there was little to no love for the newsprint ("it looks cheap"), and financial common sense. Happy that we at least gave it a go.
We did return to Dark Horse recently for my latest solo series X-RAY ROBOT, and they are doing an ambitiously definitive library collection of ALL of my creator-owned work, with 2 of 5 MASSIVE volumes out already.
We have worked with almost every comics publisher over the years, and would happily work with any again with the ideal project. Enjoyed every experience. Never switching for any negative reason (other than Comico going Chapter 11). Different projects, different collaborators... Always stretching, growing, experimenting... maintaining energy and enthusiasm for everything ahead and on the drawing table.
Looking at our shelves, mind-blowing what we've accumulated...answering the question, "Where has all the time gone?" No regrets. Love where we are and grateful for the path that brought us here. Always managing to squeak by the lean times to bigger things, and thrilled with every day that I don't have to have a "real job" ;'P
Thanks BIG TIME for opening this fun little time capsule!

      Thankyou for the great work!

Funny that they said they don’t see these in Dollar bins, because I found almost all of the issues in the 25¢ bins at one of my local shops. I remember also finding the first few issues of the Metabarons the same day.

I first read Madman in the public library when I was fourteen years old and I have loved him ever since then a few years later at either twenty-four or twenty-five years old I read The Atomics and I have loved them ever since too.

Back in 2000, The Atomics was the only title I was still reading. I think I have the entire series in my storage locker. It was such a great homage to the silver age.

I remember 15 issues, collected into 4 floppy collections. Plus a Mr.Gum oneshot from Oni, an It Girl oneshot, a Spaceman oneshot from Oni (?) and I think there might've been 1 more before they did the 17 issue Madman and The Atomics series

I was also ignorant about the shape comics were in when this came out (though mine was from the other side if the spectrum, having been out of comics for well over a decade by then). But I do remember seeing these characters and enjoying the Silver Age vibe the art had. Gave me a little hope that maybe some day I'd be able/want to get back into it. One of the things I liked about this and the Silver Age greats was how, even though heroes were in "skin tight" costumes, it still looked like there was weight and texture to the material. Not yet the spray painted on or latex/rubber look. And that always made it seem like it was costumes someone (and an every day someone at that) could just whip up themselves at home.

Hey can you guys do a deep dive on Travis Charest and how do you contact him on social media?
The main question for him is why he does not do his original style that influence two generations of artist why did he change that to what he's doing now?.. there's no way to connect the dots from what he used to do to what he's doing now

Guys, maybe you can answer this puzzling question that I can never get anyone to respond to: and NO, this is not a joke - artist Mike Allred - is he related to lawyer Gloria Allred or not? In the last 5 years, I've only gotten tumbleweeds as a reply - including all the usual Wikipee jazz, etc.
