"Parody was almost an industry". Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles started out as a parody of Daredevil and other comics, and then Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters came out as a parody of TMNT in 1986. And I'd have to dig through boxes of comics, but I'm pretty sure there were parodies of parodies of parodies at one point. It really was a genre.
Love parodies...even better now when you can search the internet and find out all the inside info to correlate. Check out the inside back cover to normalman/Megaton man issue 1 for the backstory on how this was created with Rob Liefeld involvement. Thanks guys!
I was maybe 12 when this came out so I got some of the references at the time, but it reads so much better now knowing more plus all your guys insight. Keep up the great work
I remember back in high school I walked into a random drug store hoping to find a spinner rack and came across the first issue of this new comic that looked cool, had Jim Lee's name on it, so what could be wrong about that? And five years later I sold it for $50. That comic was Gen13 #1 (miniseries).
I’m surprised I missed these as a kid. My favorite comic was ‘What The…’ the parody comic published by Marvel. I wanna find these Splitting Image comics now. Great job gentlemen, great video.
I just got this last month and I read it last week, seems that we are reading our minds. To me it's a great one. I didn't understand if this was a ego boost why they are describing their characters in such a deminishing way. Instead this shows their huge and unrusty balls of steel to have this done at that time. By the way, so far I just can think of three wildC.A.T.s parody books, WildC.H.I.C.K.s, WildBRATS and Petworks vs WildK.A.T.S. I don't know if there any any more than those.
Dandy Don Simpson is a master!
I've been waiting for this one! I found them in a dollar bin last year, and loved them!
