Love Tommy and Eric!! No band has the same personnel for close to 50 years. The Rolling Stones lost Brian Jones on July 3rd, 1969 and thus only had their original line-up for 7 years. Time moves on and people come and go. Tommy and Eric *absolutely* rock and are very welcome to the KISS lineup in my opinion!! And since they are younger than Paul and Gene, they can give the 'old men' the break(s) they so rightly deserve during live performances!

Probably also noteworthy that both Tommy and Eric have been with KISS longer than Ace and Peter too. So more than earned their place there in my opinion. I really don’t see how people think they are copying them. It’s just makeup. Sure they play the songs as they were written, but their playing style and stage presence is completely different. I’m personally a fan of KISS, in all it’s forms. Though if anyone replaces Gene or Paul, I might have issues.

This will piss off a bunch of the old-school die-hard KISS fans, but Tommy Thayer is inspirational to me and I look up to him more than Ace Frehley. I was born in 1992, so Ace was long gone from the band, and I didn't get into KISS until the mid-2000s when I saw a KISS concert with Thayer and Singer in the line-up. That energetic new-to-me concert experience blew me away and seeing Tommy Thayer rock out on guitar was one of the many motivations for me to learn guitar. My experience with Ace Frehley in KISS is only old KISS albums and ancient concert footage and the reunion tour footage, but same as with Kulick he doesn't mean much to me in the current day. I see Tommy as more like the Daniel Craig (the current James Bond) of the band. He's got an outfit and make-up very reminiscent of Ace's, though not completely identical in appearance, and he does his own thing with the "Spaceman" character even if he uses some of the same stage gimmicks like the fireworks guitar. People say that he doesn't sound like Ace. With my experience as a decent guitarist, try all you like, you can't truly sound exactly like someone else. But, I don't think Tommy tries to sound like Ace. He plays the same notes, but it sounds like Tommy Thayer playing and enjoying himself, he puts his own flair and style into playing, and he's a good guitarist in his own right. He looks like the Spaceman and he is the Spaceman, but I don't think he's ever once pretended that he was Ace Frehley or acted like it. In defending Tommy, I am not downplaying Ace at all, and there is no doubt that he was influential to how KISS ended up owing to his history as a founding member and those years with the band. I just think it's not fair to completely invalidate Tommy's ability and dedication to the band simply because he's a replacement member.
tommy is an outstanding guitarist. but he really does lick aces boots. he even mimics the faces ace would make.its disgusting. i was born in 94 and somehow found a movie we rented from blockbuster...detroit rock city and fell in love. i vividly remember seeing all 4 original members in 99/2000 (philly /camden and trenton) nothing like it! you could only imagine my disappointment when i saw the KISS IV dvd. eric gets a slight pass causehe was actually in the band before the reunion and has been open to not liking wearing peters face
i saw kiss again on the sonic boom tour ( went as eric carr) and by mid show,i took the make-up off. they were so weak. only gene and eric mean anything anymore. its just a shame eric has to play as an imposter
I've always been of Ace Frehley fan but I have a new-found respect for Tommy Thayer he plays the Spaceman character quite well he is an excellent guitarist and vocalist. Eric Singer is also an excellent musician because I remember him back in Black Sabbath Badlands Paul Stanley solo tour and Alice Cooper. I think both are fitting replacements to keep Kiss going no matter what kisses always going to be Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley as the founding members. After hearing these recent tell-all interviews and news articles. About Ace and Peter I'm really shocked and I don't know what to think? I was never a Peter Criss guy to begin with after hearing his solo album from 1978 or any of the three albums that were done after he left Kiss that I know of.

Christoffer Elofsson I give props to Tommy for keeping shock me alive! It’s such a great song but at the end of the day, it’s written by ace but it still is a KISS song. Agree or disagree, I think tommy does it better live but that is just my opinion :)
@Chris Stanley..How old are you?.New York Groove was THE standout track of the 4 solo albums and Ace put out the best album. Shock Me and New York Groove were Ace Frehley's signature songs at the time. If you were 14 years old back then and spent all of your lawn mowing and paper route money on that expensive 4 record set you were rewarded with Ace's set of recordings of which NYG generated the most airplay. I didn't live in the Uk so i didn't hear the original hit version but whenever I hear that song I think about Ace and myself living in New York. And yeah, it's kinda well known Ace didn't write it. He just lived it. Ace didn't sing Cold Gin, he just lived it.

I hate more than anything to say this but Paul is losing his voice. I'm bummed out about it. I have a feeling retirement is soon or sooner than we want.
We all love Ace, but NONE OF US were there when things went south between all the members. Tommy Thayer... the man does his homework. And then some. He rocks and even threw a guitar pick to me at the Alive 35 tour in Milwaukee. I was the only guy shouting his name. Why? Cuz he fucking rocks. KISS is bigger than any one member or a certain combination of them (it’s been a revolving door since dynasty which only enriches their history) Let’s be thankful for how they changed and redefined rock and roll. It inspired me to play drums beyond just The Beatles.
I think shock me and Beth should have been left with Peter and ace. Im happy that there is a new Pac-Man and catman. But those were ace and Peter's songs. Don't get me wrong I love Tommy and Eric
Thats what they originally did with beth- eric didnt sing it for a while due to a verbal agreement with peter and kiss. Its hard to find eric carr singing beth, i think there are no live versions. Only the studio recording in smashes, thrashes and hits. Personally, I think they should honour the songs, where and who they originated from and the impact they have had on fans. But thats a personal opinion
I’ve seen Ace Frehley every time he’s come to Sydney. In his sets, he not only includes his own deep cuts but will also play KISS Classics such as Love Gun, Detroit Rock City, Deuce and Shout It Out Loud. I think it’s only fair that KISS perform Shock Me with Tommy Thayer on lead vocals.
I’m sure they would love to have their own personas, but gene and Paul wanted to keep the tradition of the original members and “give the illusion that this was 70’s styled KISS in their heyday”. Just try to think of it from their perspective I’m sure they would want their own too!! :)
I would have loved Tommy and Eric to have their own personas too but at this stage in the game noone would care but the diehard fans. It comes down to buisness and money, ethics be damned. The majority of people at the shows are first time KISS concert goers that don't know or care what their names are or the majority of the songs for that matter.. They want the experience. The Demon, Starchild, Catman and Spaceman. If it was the Demon, Starchild, Hawk and Dogman it would go over like a lead ballon. KISS at this stage are offering brand entertainment and nostalgia. They are no longer a recording band offering anything new and they are in their 60's and 70's. Ain't no money in the Hawk and Dogman. It does suck to hear someone outside the show go on and on about how great Ace was that night.

I remember when "Kiss" wasn't a tribute band. I was a huge fan back then. Tommy Thayer was actually in another Kiss tribute band back in the day, much like he is today.

When I've listened to Vinnie Vincent I definitely hear some Kiss. When I listen to Bruce Kulick, I definitely hear some Kiss. When I listen to Ace Frehley, I hear absolutely ZERO Kiss. There is a reason for that.

Making Tommy perform Shock Me was just distasteful and disrespectful to Ace. If they would have dedicated the song to Ace or something it would have been fine, but they played it off like it's Tommy's song. Out of This World is a great song, and I think Tommy is a great guitarist and Kiss member in his own right. Paul and Gene really lost out on a huge opportunity by forcing Tommy and Eric to become Peter and Ace impersonators. If they would have let Tommy and Eric be themselves for the last 20ish years we could have seen some awesome and innovative new music, they really robbed the fans by putting them in Peter and Ace's makeup and making them perform their songs.

I've always been of Ace Frehley fan but I have a new-found respect for Tommy Thayer he plays the Spaceman character quite well he is an excellent guitarist and vocalist. Eric Singer is also an excellent musician because I remember him back in Black Sabbath Badlands Paul Stanley solo tour and Alice Cooper. I think both are fitting replacements to keep Kiss going no matter what kisses always going to be Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley as the founding members. After hearing these recent tell-all interviews and news articles. About Ace and Peter I'm really shocked and I don't know what to think? I was never a Peter Criss guy to begin with after hearing his solo album from 1978 or any of the three albums that were done after he left Kiss that I know of.

Shock Me and New York Groove were Ace Frehley's signature songs at the time. If you were 14 years old back then and spent all of your lawn mowing and paper route money on that expensive 4 record set you were rewarded with Ace's set of recordings of which NYG generated the most airplay.
I didn't live in the Uk so i didn't hear the original hit version but whenever I hear that song I think about Ace and myself living in New York. And yeah, it's kinda well known Ace didn't write it. He just lived it. Ace didn't sing Cold Gin, he just lived it.

Tommy Thayer... the man does his homework. And then some. He rocks and even threw a guitar pick to me at the Alive 35 tour in Milwaukee. I was the only guy shouting his name. Why? Cuz he fucking rocks. KISS is bigger than any one member or a certain combination of them (it’s been a revolving door since dynasty which only enriches their history)
Let’s be thankful for how they changed and redefined rock and roll. It inspired me to play drums beyond just The Beatles.

Thats what they originally did with beth- eric didnt sing it for a while due to a verbal agreement with peter and kiss. Its hard to find eric carr singing beth, i think there are no live versions. Only the studio recording in smashes, thrashes and hits.
Personally, I think they should honour the songs, where and who they originated from and the impact they have had on fans. But thats a personal opinion

I’ve seen Ace Frehley every time he’s come to Sydney.
In his sets, he not only includes his own deep cuts but will also play KISS Classics such as Love Gun, Detroit Rock City, Deuce and Shout It Out Loud.
I think it’s only fair that KISS perform Shock Me with Tommy Thayer on lead vocals.
This is just disrespectful to everyone involved. Tommy and Eric more then the have talent to earn right to their own identity.
I’m sure they would love to have their own personas, but gene and Paul wanted to keep the tradition of the original members and “give the illusion that this was 70’s styled KISS in their heyday”. Just try to think of it from their perspective I’m sure they would want their own too!! :)

I would have loved Tommy and Eric to have their own personas too but at this stage in the game noone would care but the diehard fans. It comes down to buisness and money, ethics be damned. The majority of people at the shows are first time KISS concert goers that don't know or care what their names are or the majority of the songs for that matter.. They want the experience. The Demon, Starchild, Catman and Spaceman. If it was the Demon, Starchild, Hawk and Dogman it would go over like a lead ballon. KISS at this stage are offering brand entertainment and nostalgia. They are no longer a recording band offering anything new and they are in their 60's and 70's. Ain't no money in the Hawk and Dogman. It does suck to hear someone outside the show go on and on about how great Ace was that night.

Making Tommy perform Shock Me was just distasteful and disrespectful to Ace. If they would have dedicated the song to Ace or something it would have been fine, but they played it off like it's Tommy's song. Out of This World is a great song, and I think Tommy is a great guitarist and Kiss member in his own right. Paul and Gene really lost out on a huge opportunity by forcing Tommy and Eric to become Peter and Ace impersonators. If they would have let Tommy and Eric be themselves for the last 20ish years we could have seen some awesome and innovative new music, they really robbed the fans by putting them in Peter and Ace's makeup and making them perform their songs.
I can tolerate anything by KISS except the aberration of Thayer singing and playing Shock Me. A million thumbs down.
