After earning his undergraduate degree in biology from UC San Diego, Dr. Lawler went on to complete a medical degree at the Chicago Medical School. He completed a year-long internship in general surgery at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital, before training for four years in his orthopedic residency program emphasizing sports medicine. Dr. Lawler has completed his board certification, which means that he is qualified to treat patients at the highest standard of care set by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. He is up to date in all his certifications and frequently participates in continuing education events to further his knowledge of advances in the field. Dr. Lawler is also an active member of the California Orthopedic Association and the American Medical Association.
