@Chris Haha I wouldn't say I get "paid well", but don't feel too stupid about not knowing every feature on the software. There are things on Photoshop I've never used. The features you use are mainly determined by what kind of designer you are and what projects you do. It's more important to understand the basics of design like composition, color theory, etc. Having that understanding is what allows you to know what looks good when you "click around" And don't worry, feeling stupid doesn't go away, it just morphs into imposter syndrome lol. I'm self-taught, so I feel a mix of those all the time.
@Chris If you ever need some inspiration, I know an absolutely terrible designer with enough money to pay a mortage and a new car. I'll share their website :))
Me, person with no formal graphic design experience: "I have no idea what I'm doing, I just kind of click around until I like it" Person who went to school for graphic design: "I don't know what any of these do, I just click around until I get what I want"
The difference is that those who went to a graphic design school or at-least studied basic graphic design theory in general would understand better what looks "nice" and it can become a subconscious thing. Obviously, that's not always the case as there will be some people that won't get the skill even after studying, we'll just have to say they picked the wrong profession.
@@feelcollins4358exactly. School only gives you the tools, but it’s up to the student to actually create. You can be given every piece of knowledge necessary but still fail in the field if you don’t have that certain eye. Some people never go to school and learn everything on their own and do super well because they just have the certain thing that works.
this is kind of like a bob ross painting where you add something and i'm like "no!!! you're going to ruin it!!!" and then it's added and worked with and i'm like oh wait it DOES look good
Yeah, it's cuz smart objects retain the original image quality so you can play with effects or edit them and still go back to the original image if you don't like it. It's useful if you work with less layers like making mockups etc. Rasterization on the other hand gives you more freedom to edit and stuff but at the cost of losing the original image quality.
this really inspired me to sit down and design some posters for my favorite singers. i've always thought that people would judge me for doing stuff like this since it could be considered as "fan art" and "cringy", but i think it's a good way to develop your skills and i love that we can do fun things for artists that we love
Being a graphic designer myself, I truly enjoy watching your videos. I will come back home after work in an advertising agency, make myself a cup of tea and I watch your videos. Keep on going.
I'd love to see creating a brand front to back for someone. I love the rebrand videos but I think starting completely fresh for a brand would be really cool.
I have an in-house design job that can be a little boring at times and I love watching/listening to your videos while I work to add some extra creativity to my day. Your channel inspires me so much thank you! :)
This is so helpful to see your workflow. Graphic design on the computer is so mysterious to me and I get frustrated by the technical aspect every time I try...and I've been in art school for three years! I love the way you build the background out of the album image. Thank you!
Re: Wacom - sry if this is dumb but you can manage the sensitivity in the settings on the app! also is your pen charged or low battery? idk just some troubleshooting things. You may also need a new tip for you pen!
Thanks so much for showing us your process and talking through it. I really love this style of graphic design, and it seems like it goes completely against everything they taught us in design school....but for me that was over 15 years ago and I've been tired of trying to copy old school Swiss design for way too long. Seeing this kind of thing really helps me break out of my old habits and try to do things in a new way. So refreshing. Keep up the great work!
i actually didn't know of the album until this video and oh my GOD i gave it a listen and it's one of my new faves! tysm for opening my eyes to phoebe bridgers.
i learn a lot from your videos, i really like your style and that's why i keep watching your designing videos! i'm a visual design fresh graduate, but do not specialize in graphic design (which i continue to regret) it would be nice if you talk about designing techniques that you often used and loves!
Oh my god this is SO PRETTYYYY I think this is my favorite thing of yours that I’ve seen! It literally looks like a magazine cover! Gorgeous!!!! I especially love the lines, it’s such a spacey vibe idk
I love this so much!! I’d love to see more of this. I love all your posters and all the little details you put in them. That what I have a hard time coming up with and doing
I've learned so much from your videos than I have in my college courses (Also, any time I watch one of your videos I automatically hit 'control-S' on my computer at least once)
Your videos are amazing, and so educational. I love your work, and I am becoming better at graphic design by watching your videos- industrial design student.
i have no idea how i ended up here, because I don't even want to study graphic design, I just wanted to make a cool t-shirt design, but I enjoyed your video so much, so thank you! :))
I just spent like 3 hours recreating this poster but with my boyfriend's band. just for funzies (not using it for anything). I just really wanted to learn some of the things u did in this vid and it worked!! love you always
when you said “now that my computer had a restie poo ;)” i lost it ... also punisher was such a phenomenal record. thank you for another video! love your content xoxo
for your wacom, I had an issue like that (although mine is a 22" monitor, not a tablet) and unfortunately it was a moisture problem that was between the screen and the sensitivity panel. I had to get the screen diagnosed and replaced
Thank u for this I really dig this kind of style and I didn't know any channel that actually have a good tutorial for this kind of style and I found your channel!
Would love some more of these album cover/music poster sorta videos they are very cool :) always nice to see what someone else's vision might look like
I love it!! imo I would have put the cover a little bit lower inside the clipping mask coz the top of the rock it's just to closer to the edge of the upper arc.
Love the font you used for the album title!!! It gives me like Dracula’s castle on either an old heavy metal album or bugs bunny?? I can’t explain my thinking but I love it.
Hey! I heard that you've made a collaboration with Smosh! They're like my favorite people! I'm really amazed on what you've been able to achieve and your growth in general. I wish you the best! ✌️&❤️
Always love your channel. Funny thing yesterday I was talking to a friend about making these random collages of artist I like and putting them into Affect Effects to add motion. And when I come to your channel but of course you are creating a band poster. Love the channel. Always on point
Keep up your videos! I found your channel a week ago and have been binge watching it ever since. If you could make more content about your brainstorm/workflow, that'd be awesome. They're great for aspiring designers
hi kel! im starting college in the fall and i enrolled into a typography & calligraphy class because of you! i’ve been into graphic design for a couple years now but you’ve inspired me to pay more attention to fonts n type and take the class :’)) love your videos!!

damn I still use photoshop & illustrator CS6 haha I'm so outdated

Does anyone else just come back to this video to either listen to while designing or just for comfort?
Went to listen to the albums two months ago. Loved it so much I got lost, and just found my way back.
I'm glad i'm not the only one with a graphic design degree and just "clicks around until I like it"

Honestly, I'm so glad I found you! You're literally amazing. I love the work you do! Stay safe and hydrated :)

This is so cool. I've been making fan band posters recently as well! These are so much cooler than what I've been making in photoshop.
The process at 23:42 was virtuosic. It was like magic being performed before my very eyes
Your videos are amazing, and so educational. I love your work, and I am becoming better at graphic design by watching your videos- industrial design student.
