If only I had seen this video 6 months ago! Started with Infinity in January and since then I have built up collections of Qapu Khalqi, Steel Phalanx, NCA and Shock Army at great expense! While it has been fun to do, and tracking down rare minis is one of the things I like about mini wargaming, I definitely have too many models to paint and play with and am experiencing some buyers remorse. My advice to new players is to pick one army and stick with it for at least six months. It will be painful at times and that desire to get the new shiny stuff and interesting factions will be strong, but you will be much more likely to have a fully painted force and, more importantly, to be better at the game! It is so fiendishly complex that it really takes a good while to get even a bit good with a faction, so do that and you will be rewarded with higher skill than if you didn't and a thicker wallet!
I got my Tohaa early last year when they discontinued and I got a collection of the original pieces with it so I have all of Tohaa and Spiral Corps to play as my first factions. I love them!
I played Tohaa back in the day and really loved them. The way they play and look is so cool and it was so fresh to have biotech focused aliens where the biotech wasn't claws, tentacles and chitin. I got so salty when they got discontinued and rolled into the mercs that I quit playing Infinity and didn't want to touch it for years. :D I got over it and got back into Infinity recently after a couple of my friends got interested in the game.
Ok, first off, Hotline Miami music background for Infinity? *Chef's kiss* Got into infinity the last couple months thanks to your other, every faction explained video. Would love to see Tohaa come back, because with such a good sci fi focus, the occasional really weird stuff they can design for aliens is awesome. As someone who plans to play Haqq and eventually nomads . . . mmm those pirates look nice. Awesome work again. ^_^
I went whole hog into this game last year and managed to scoop up most of Tohaa and every other army they make. Still haven't managed to find a tikbalang tag, I absolutely love the look of it.

@@chromedog68 HA! You'll never find Eduardo for less than three figures. That was an INCREDIBLY desirable model when it came out, and now, it's pretty much extinct in the wild.

The Qapu Kalqi "just play Druze or Dahshat" was pretty funny and really on point. I think the only reason to play QK is the Azrail. It's one of those sectorials that I think might need to be retired, since there are already two NA2 armies that do everything the same but better.
I just went down the road of collecting a large Tohaa army and it was painfully expensive. A few models just had to be proxied because they're almost impossible to find. I don't regret it because they look great and are full of flavor, but Tohaa is BY FAR the faction I want to see CB relaunch the most. A tip I'd give anyone trying to put together a Tohaa force is to look at Combined Army models. Some will fit right in with actual Tohaa/Chaksa models, and a few are literally Sygmaa Trihedron Tohaa that are a simple paintjob away from getting out from under the EI's influence.
Who should get reworked first Steel Phalanx.... Why below. I would rather have a new sectorial for Aleph then have them redo Steel Phalanx, even though I love SP and they where my first army. I will also say that Aleph should get another sectorial just to help fill out available choices for new vanilla players, Steel Phalanx or something new either works. QK I feel needs to go back to the drawing board and re focus on the merchant guard aspect. NOT PAN O!!! in the last 3 years Pan O has gotten 2 new sectorial and a major extensive revision+release for anther one, give some one else some love. Ariadna's 2 could be reworked in which case we would see the removal of most likely the USARF line, in which case MRRF as you can do some cool an interesting things there for Ariadna. Tohaa should wait for the next time they advance the plot a good bit.
Really a nice video, it nicely completes the one about the currently supported sectorials. I'm just not totally on board with your last recommendation about not collecting these discontinued sectorials. I mean, if you are a total rookie in the hobby, then yes, your advice is excellent. But if one has already some experience in the wargaming minis hobby (or simply if he truly loves a discontinued sectorial), then I would encourage him to try to collect that sectorial and go for the 2nd hand market. After all, as you've said in both your videos, some minis can be used also for the NA2 armies, so they would still have some value. And let's not forget about the generous proxy rules of Infinity: as long as you use official Infinity models which have the same Silhouette value of the proxied model and your opponent knows who's who, then you are free to go. Finally, let's not forget about the joy (for someone, at least) of having something out of production but still fully usable on the field.
Infinity models make such stylish candidates for a Cyberpunk, Near-Modern Warfare, and Space Opera (like, you know, Infinity RPG) roleplaying game. Also Starforged: Ironsworn or even Cy_Borg. For instance, there is a rpg called When The Wolf Comes. In this game, it is an alternate timeline where the Norse Viking culture became the dominant power on Earth, and later expanded to other worlds. So it's Space Vikings. Models like the Varangian Guard are perfect pictures of When the Wolf Comes: assault rifles, hi-tech gear, plus long-axes and pseudomagic (basically hackers but people aren't sure where technology ends and mystical forces begin). There is actually a player class called the Varangian, which is the Paladin of the game. (The entire game is based on Shadow of the Demon Lord rpg so anyone familiar with that game will recognize some classes as being reskinned with minor differences for the setting switch). The funnest part is that each player has 3 classes - Novice->Expert->Mythic making for lots of customization, combined with various origins from Menn to Alfar (Groot-Elves) to Dvargar (sentient droids - these are the dwarves of the setting) to the techsuit Sons of Ivaldi (every one of them is actually a clone of the original Ivaldi) to genetically modified nobility, to animal mutants, jotun-mutants, orcneas (basically...orcs but they are also mutants with hints of fire or frost giants). Since I'm hyperfixating, I won't neglect the final origins, Dokkalfar, which are the dark elf race, but in-setting are essentially Alfar who got meshed into machinery and separated from the Ygdrasil World Tree which the Alfar are hive-minded to: depending on your perspective, either the Alfar or the Dokkalfar could be the "Aleph" group, but I digress. Last origin is the Wane, who are wilderness humans with plant-based mutations and fill the half-elf niche. Lots of fun to look at When The Wolf Comes and see "oh, the Joffur (genetically perfected aristocrats) are Haqqislam; the Jarnverdr (beastmen mutants) are like chimera/ Ariadna wolfmen," etc. I think I may do a full reskin/hack of When the Wolf Comes into the Human Sphere, it wouldn't take much work beyond narrative changes. Also, great videos. I don't play the skirmish game, but i love the art direction, lore, and getting a taste of the game in action. I know nothing, like what the difference is between Combi-rifle & Multi-rifle? No idea. Chain-Colt is like a Chain-rifle revolver? Estimated guess. I'm looking for channels that really strip back and look at all the features of the game, from loadout profiles to what Shockmines "do" to tacticas and history. So I appreciate the Retired Armies video (also makes me feel old that all the OOP lines and models were the current ones when I was last looking at Infinity the Game. I bought the dude with the dreadlocks & cigar!
I somehow snagged an entire Tohaa army (minus the Gorgos) for 350. They're a super fun faction to learn the game with, albeit probably a little more complicated than I should have jumped in with. Would love to see some lore on Spiral Corp or Tohaa in general!

They absolutely need to re-launch Qapu Khalqi. Playing it against today's sectorials like Varuna or NCA or Dahshat feels somewhat hampering. The limited wildcards they have is a good design in my opinion, but it gives me zero reasons to use the Druze or Kaplans that are just not quite worth it if you want to build a full Core fireteam out of them. Allowing a Mobile Brigada and Alguaciles to link up with the mercenary units (makes sense since these Nomad boys are also hired guns in QK) with the "maximum 2 Alguaciles per fireteam" cap would be great and thematically consistent IMO.
Based on what I've hearing around my group and the community in general the sectorials that need immediate relaunching or reworking are, Steel Phalanx, ISS and USARF.
A lot of people were very down on Ariadna sectorials such as caledonia and USARF at the start of N4 with the unit cap changes. Even below you can see someone saying caledonia is underpowered. But recently a lot of people have perked up a bit. Both of those factions received some really useful upgrades and whilst they did lose some power they're both reasonably well placed to compete against the meta and I've seen some of those mentioned armies take top placings in large tournaments recently. It seems that some of the hangups people originally had are beginning to look a little bit overblown and false. For example, one person a few months back was saying USARF has poor access to AP weapons and can't take on TAGs. This is objectively not true - the faction has some of the *best* access to AP weaponry. So it's tricky sometimes to successfully filter legitimate grievance and issues from illegitimate discomfort at change.
This is my biggest gripe about CB. I love Infinity, but these are 7 AMAZING sectorials that new players just don't have access to. They've also discontinued a huge amount of the most important core units of USARF, as well as a couple of the Dire Foes boxes that are kind of important. When FRRM was nuked, they said they were going to revisit them and rework them, with a new focus and new models. That was in 2018. Since then, they've eliminated six (seven, if you count all the USARF) other sectorials, or in the case of Tohaa a full faction, and released... I believe 18? New factions/sectorials, and boatloads of shiny new models for them. They say it's because molds wear out and they're trying to cut back on their SKU count, but honestly, I think that's bullshit. They constantly bring out the new hotness and completely ignore the stuff they already have (or had.) I play FRRM, NCA, and Tohaa, and thankfully, I have most of the models for them already (I was smart and bought up a full selection of the FRRM models when they were announced to be discontinued... if only they'd been more transparent when they went to nuke the others!) CB needs to quit fucking around and releasing new sectorials every 6-8 months and start revisiting the stuff that they already have, and putting out some resculpts for things. Until they do that, my only options are hoping to find that Uhlan on the secondary market for obscene amounts of money, or buy from a Ukrainian recaster... and I'm not spending that obscene amounts of money. Sorry, CB, but if you're not going to fully support your game, I'll buy from someone who will.
I got into Ariadna - Caledonian army but haven't assembled them yet 😜 Thinking of getting into Code One but what annoys me is that the previous code one operation box sets are discontinued???
They run for about a year then get split into starter boxes for the 2 factions. Happened with Kaldstrom and Crimson stone it'll likely happen towards the end of this year with Blackwind. Have patience if they keep doing these it means we're getting updated models a lot sooner than we used to. Caledonia may even get a comeback hopefully. They were my first army too, bought the starter set a few days before it went off production.
I feel like you didn't really explain how dirty MRRF has to play to win. And it's pretty good at it. Shoving Duroc up the enemy army's backside can win games before they've even begun.
Several people did tell me to EXPLICITLY talk about Mirage Equipe-5. ...which is fair. However, I try to avoid talking about individual units and I think it's more valuable to talk about overall playstyle. For example, I didn't talk about the Asawira for Hassassin Bahram, even though it's very good. When I do talk about individual units, it's when they greatly contribute to the overall theme of the army - like the Fiday. Margot & Duroc are incredible, but you're probably not playing MRRF **just for Equipe-5**. You could play Kosmoflot, for example. Anyway. Good point.
@@WarLore I feel like overall, MRRF's lack of brute force firepower slants them towards "dirty" play more than almost any other sectorial. It's not just Mirage-5. Though I gather that this video wasn't meant to be an in-depth analysis of the forces in question; just like "If you didn't know what these were, here you go!" and that makes sense.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the Exrah sectorial of CombinedArmy. i hate the fact that aliens now have to be so damn humanoid. BRING BACK MY SQUID BUGS!!!!
they only made four units for the Exrah; the Caskuda, the Operators and Iskaller. they were never an army, they were not a sectorial there are more Saladin miniatures than there ever were Exrah however a video on them is a good idea
3D scanners are VERY expensive and surprisingly finicky. Besides, even if you scan a file, you still have to re-tool it, get physical packaging, take up store shelf space, that sort of thing.
One of Infinity's greatest features is letting you use old models. But they don't get talked about, and it's valuable to discuss what they can do! ...especially if they ever do a re-release.
@@WarLore MRRF or Tohaa. Selfishly, MRRF, because I think it's neat, and more objectively, Tohaa, because that faction needs to be re-launched and its gameplay re-evaluated.
Really not a big fan of some of your criticisms of the factions in this video. NCA in particular, because they were my main army for a long time and have a very distinct way of playing which IS different to a lot of other factions. Also disagree with the idea that it's tiring to proxy and have to explain your whole list every time. I explain my whole list to my opponent every game whether I'm proxying or not, so that doesn't make much a difference either way. Usually like your videos but there was a bit of negativity in this one that I don't feel was warranted or helpful. Sure, I'm defensive of NCA in particular, but that's because most people blast the faction when they haven't really had a good long look at its unique facets.
I didn't really feel much negativity on the part of WarLore, I think he tried to present a fair argument against new players trying to collect these armies. Perhaps this video was meant more as a cursory look at the OOP armies, and for a brief video its fair to say that NCA plays similar to PanO without the huge difference in play style between PanO and SAA, Varuna, or MO. I hope and am sure that CB will eventually bring back these armies.
Love US ariadna, not much of a fan of the tartar faction. I was hoping to supplement a few French and scot figures in my army, but ones on the market I go back and forth whether or not I want to collect them. But yeah the French designs got hosed for sure. I just hope US ariadna doesn’t meet the same fate.
Just a correction about hacking in Steel Phalanx, AKA The Greeks: they have the BEST pitchers Aleph have access to, and while Scylla and Thamirys are not Danavas, Asuras or even Apasaras, they are quite good hackers (and Thamirys is one of the best under 30pts defensive hackers... BS12, pitcher, NWI, Zero Pain...). Also, "control" for the Greeks is about crushing the enemy, but they have the improved (and opressive, even OP, now in N4) Andromeda, the "I will wreck you" Ekdromois (with Diomedes having a "play again" in his NWI), and the long range monster that Total Reaction Atalanta has become.
@@WarLore it's a tight contest: the greeks have 2 BS12 pitcher-throwers, and Scylla's remotes, while OSS has AVA3 Danavas with BS11 and the AVA2 Rudras. Personally, however, I wouldn't focus neither sectorial on hacking (which means carrying 1 or 2 pitcher at most, and everything else because of the rest of the kit, not just the hacking devices). Vanilla could, but the others... the sinergy of the repeater network is too big, and Nomads are simply on a league away.
@@Xagroth that's fair! but I think that if someone said "I want to play hacking in ALEPH" I would still say "play OSS, because you can buy the models and they're all about controlling the board" as a selling point. I agree with you, but that's a more subtle nuance for new players!
@@WarLore If a player were to ask me about hacking with Aleph, I'd recommend Vanilla, however (and Atalanta, basic Mymrs, Achilles, and Penthesilea Bootleg are still in production). Also, my bet is that next year its possible we'll see the Greeks coming back to rotation.
Hahaha, Steel Phalanx best cc stats in the game ..... I don't think so! There is only one faction in infinity that has martial arts lvl 5 & they have two of them (Mushasi & Kitsune) with a cc value of 25! & that is JSA .& if you like playing space pirates play Ikari , they are the pirates of the game .
This is true! But that’s on… two models, right? Steel Phalanx takes MA3 CC21 myrmidons for 16 points, and they usually take a lot of them. Ikari is also strongly recommended for space pirate players! I mostly said Druze and Dashat because they have models in common with QK.
@@WarLore Well, there are the Domaru Butai CC24 MA L3 for 20 points & Tanko CC23 MA L2 for 17 points . you also have the Ninjas CC23 MA L3 & Oniwaban+ Saito+Yojimbo with CC24 MA L4 & don't forget the Shikami CC 23 MA L3. Don't get me wrong , steel phalanx isn't bad at CC but they clearly outmatched by the JSA. Two friends of mine ( both play one of these army's ) fought it out , but that was back in N3 . Kitsune is a nightmare if she gets 10 orders pushed in to her . I had to learn that the hard way . like your Infinity videos. Keep up the good work. greeting from Germany
I didn't know most of these were discontinued. What qualifies as a discontinued army? Is it that the models are "difficult" to find? because QK for example are very easy to find as most their stuff is just basic Haqq or Nomad stuff.
There is no real definition. The best thing I can say is "CB is not reprinting their core box right now." Also, Steel Phalanx are no longer discontinued.

I like to get acontecimiento resculpt. But i don't see online store whith them
I think they'll all make a comeback with Human Sphere N4.
I'm still hoping for a N4 Human Sphere volume, but to this day is still just a wish ^^".
"...supports pretty much every miniature ever released..." (sad Caskuda noises)
i got great news for you
@@WarLore It was a foreshadowing of the great comeback of our dear Chungus!
"James" rofl
I'm surprised you didn't mention the Exrah sectorial of CombinedArmy. i hate the fact that aliens now have to be so damn humanoid. BRING BACK MY SQUID BUGS!!!!
they only made four units for the Exrah; the Caskuda, the Operators and Iskaller. they were never an army, they were not a sectorial
there are more Saladin miniatures than there ever were Exrah
however a video on them is a good idea
With 3D printing can't they just scan their old models and start with new 3D prints?
3D scanners are VERY expensive and surprisingly finicky.
Besides, even if you scan a file, you still have to re-tool it, get physical packaging, take up store shelf space, that sort of thing.
Shock army is amazing
Question from a player just starting. If Steel Phalanx is mostly just the heros from ALEPH what models is the secrtorial missing?
Sorry, what do you mean “missing”?
you are confusing "heroes of Alpeh" with "Heroes of OSS". Discontinued SP characters are:
Achilles
Patroclus
Ajax
Phoenix
Pentesilea
Diomedes
Nesaie Alke
Machaon
Thamyris
Drakios & Scylla
Acmon
@@gealhart1069 Thank you
Overall though, I like this video for cluing in newer members of the community to what these relics from days of yore are.
One of Infinity's greatest features is letting you use old models. But they don't get talked about, and it's valuable to discuss what they can do!
...especially if they ever do a re-release.
@@WarLore We know that one old sectorial is getting re-released in 2022 as per Bostria's interview on TheDiceAbide's channel.
@@terraneaux very exciting. Which one would you want to see?
Yeah the USAriadna sectorial doesn’t play nice with the others really.
French got hosed? Just stay tuned ;)
Ahhh you didn’t even mention tohaa outside of spiral.
Thats helpful.
For the love of god CB bring back Steel phalanx and update them to N4 standard
You got your wish :)
perfect!! :D
Symbiont Armor is no longer a rule.
That's true! T hey use the Transmutation rule alongside units like the Su-Jian. But the theme is the same and it's not that different.
@@WarLore Yerp. xD Just loses the vulnerability to Fire, which is also no longer a rule. lol (is instead Continuous Damage)
This is fair! I did say that they had good hackers. But they don't really have enough to build the same repeater network as vanilla or OSS.
I'll be greedy and selfish and say they MUST bring back 1 of the 2 PanO sectorials... cuz REASONS!
@@b2g7h8 great point about the domaru too! And they have berserk ❤️
Im gutted they canned Caledonians
You sound suspiciously like George Lucas
That’s a Georgie original
I didn't know most of these were discontinued. What qualifies as a discontinued army? Is it that the models are "difficult" to find? because QK for example are very easy to find as most their stuff is just basic Haqq or Nomad stuff.
There is no real definition. The best thing I can say is "CB is not reprinting their core box right now."
Also, Steel Phalanx are no longer discontinued.
