    Just canceled my storage expansion and formatted the HD, just staying put for the next 2 months, either my yearly subscription renews or shadow goes under, ironically, everyone has been screaming that stadia is dead, and it seems to be shadow the one that is likely to be dead

      where are you going that people still talk about stadia? Stadia died a long time ago, it was never a good implementation in any way. There literally has never been a single reason to want or purchase stadia at all. You're better off using your money as toilet paper during covid.

  • @vcanetefdez
    @vcanetefdez 3 года назад +2

    Well, for me the facts are
    1) Shadow has proven that it’s possible to have a gaming ring on the cloud with a flawless user experience in all your connected diplays regarding if your tech ecosystem is Apple based, Google based, mixed... whatever, works like a charm trough both ethernet, WiFi and even f**** VR (still amazed by that, btw)
    2) There is A LOT of potential users currently wating for their activation, and with a proper activation timing, a lot more of people would come to Shadow.
    3) In order to be sustainable and finantialy succesful, they need to escalate the service SO MUCH more, and they have ran out of cash before achiving it. So, with the right magement and investment, Shadow’s potential as a business is limitless.
    Despite all of this, they now sadly depend 100% in the company buyer and if they have any interest at all in fullfill Shadows roadmap and vision. As one user commented yesterday on Reddit, they perfectly coud be bought by McDonalds so they can fry potatos on their servers, but let’s just hope that everythings works out just fine and we can still enjoying Shadow and watching it grow.

  • @KennyGJr

    I think Epic games might grab them. They're already having issues with Apple and Google. If they had their own cloud server blades, they could charge whatever they wanted for their game(s) / service and they would be able to pay for Shadow's dept in probably a month.

    Thanks for your hard work and everything you do dude. Yourchannel is amazing and full of up to date info. I think and agree that it’s truly a new beginning for shadow, it’s certainly not the end. The potential is massive but was poorly managed and therefore lead them into a risky business position. The potential investors in my opinion are:
    #1 Microsoft - it makes sense as they’re introducing xbox cloud gaming and shadow is a windows 10 pc at the end of the day so it could be massive. Especially with more advertising against PlayStation now & remote play.
    #2 Amazon - again it would be an easy step for Amazon to expand their Luna service outside of the US. Hopefully if this happens they would still keep the shadow name and further expand this officially on all firestick & fire tv & prime services.
    Many thanks for your regular updates.

    I've been using Shadow for about six months now, for games and digital artwork, and have really enjoyed the computing power it gives me. I'm just reminded of MoviePass, and wondering how they could offer so much for so little. I'll keep my subscription until things go south, and have everything backed up in Google Drive. I'm researching a laptop to play games and make art with, and it'll run me a lot more than the twenty bucks a month I'm paying right now. I'm hoping things work out, but it doesn't look good for Shadow at this point. :(

    Interesting and enlightening video.
    To be quite honest, I’ve been a subscriber of yours for about a year now. I was mostly drawn in because of your Shadow coverage, very intriguing. I was thiiiiiiiis close to pulling the trigger on the the Shadow Unlimited preorder, and then...yeah.
    I’d like to put my interpretation on things into the ring: I’m in the business/corporate world, and when there is such conclusive language between business partners, but a nice fluffy message of ‘This is fine.’ with fire all around them to its fanbase, it’s time to walk away. I would go into more detail, but...I think it’s pretty obvious, if we look past our own ‘feels’ for the Shadow service.
    Regardless, thanks for your openness on this topic, Mark! 😉

    @garethhanna9173 3 года назад

    I'll be surprised if they don't find a new owner, they have a solid subscriber base and if new customers are prepared
    to wait up to 8 months for a rig there is obviously scope for expansion. Start ups like this are always vulnerable to
    external shocks (Covid, hardware availability), or have over ambitious expansion plans (perhaps the move into the US was a step too far too quickly).

    • @MarkWattsVLG
      @MarkWattsVLG  3 года назад

      Agreed, I get the expansion to the US because it's a bigger market so it will generate more revenue but the upfront expansion costs to data centers in 4 different states must have taken its toll

    I wonder why this is not profitable...or has a path towards profitability. Its a fairly good service, just started using it and am amazed that it allows me to play PC games even on Wifi from an old macbook!
    I suppose it's the costs of setting up and running datacenters. Perhaps they should consider offering more lucrative services such as blockchain mining, distributed edge computing, or even partnering with a AR/VR headset manufacturer to deliver standalone virtual and augmented reality! They claim they were planning to roll out the service for VR so hopefully that means they know how to combat the latency problem.
    I think they're the only ones that are really doing something unique and awesome in the streaming world, as all the other platforms only deliver specific games or services, and you don't actually own any of it. With this, you can play games or use any service you actually own (as much as you can with digital games/services).

    I think Shadow can safely charge at least 30$ per month for the lowest tier, which is still a good gaming machine. Ill stick with Shadow for sure and I wont touch any other Cloud Business Model. For me those Game-Only Services like Stadia, Shield or X-Cloud are nothing more than glorified consoles.
    Only with Shadow I have a fully functional PC under my controll as If I rented a Server at some web hoster - just easy to use and geared towards gaming. I would hope that companies will scramble toward that opportunity and take advantage of this unique and well received busines model.
    My favourite company to own Shadow woudl be GOG which woudl complement their brand well. Most big players have their own brand allready but could benefit from Shadows superior service.
    I will discount Sony, NVidia and Microsoft here, because they seem to be only interested in providing games to players.
    Amazon seems to have its own cloud gaming service in beta testing and they have the expertise in commercial cloud services allready so I am not sure they would adapt well to Shadows business model.
    I also doubt that Google would be interested in Shadows tech, because their tech is allready surperior and just their busines model sucks.
    That leaves some other tech companies like Facebook that likes to aquire companies left and right. AMD would also be an interesting partner, but since Shadow PCs are reliant on NVidias Quadros and Intel Xeon I doubt it would be a great fit in the mid term.
    Then there is Steam/Valve or Epic, which have more interest in selling their games than providing fully functional PCs, so I wouldn't trust them with keeping Shadows service as it is today.
    Microsoft and Google also have different visions for their cloud approach which is mostly reliant on application services and not fully functional PCs.
    I think the most compatible busines model could be achieved with Amazon.
    The likeliest buyer would be Facebook because its Facebook.
    My Favourite buyers, as I said earlier would be GoG or AMD.

      30 is too much, they’ll lose customers at that point which wouldn’t be any help at all. Their main issue is getting new hardware and trimming down that waiting list. It’s basically a gold mine they can’t get into because they don’t have access to the proper tools. Only scenario I see working with an increase of the current subscriptions is them announcing that the increase would only be temporary as to get the company back on its feet (if they manage to get an investor) but even then that’s another ticking time bomb they’d have on their heads and I guarantee they’ll still lose a portion of their customers. Well just have to wait and observe.

      Not again this „please not epic“ panic. Everyone knows everything about you dude. Google, Apple, Samsung, Amazon, Facebook and Rest of the Social Media Friends. And everything is produced in China with backdoors. Not even starting to tell, you what the apps you use know. One company more or less makes no different. Algorithms are our new goods.

      Epic is probably one of the last decent companies in the space. Idk why everyone hates on them.
