Yes as a canadian in vancouver it is $800-1000 in shipping for a Rep 1000 rack system vs BoS which has free shipping for a lot of items. Sending BoS to the states is where they cant compete with american made product
I've built most of my gym with Rogue. With my Rogue plates because the set I wanted came with free shipping, I bought 3 sets instead of buying the specific plates I wanted. As I result I have 6 35's that I wish were 45's and 6 2.5's that never get used. I've considered turning 4 into drink coasters. I paid thousands in shipping to have box trucks come drop my banged up boxes in my driveway while I was at work. (Luckily my girlfriend was home so my stuff didn't get stolen, but it sure made parking annoying) Moving forward I'm only going to buy from companies with free or cheap set rate shipping, which means moving forward it's all BOS. The only exceptions will be if I want to add a specific bar from Rogue, Elite FTS, or Kabuki
Fantastic review. thanks Coop! I think there's a mix up on pricing, when I built the similar 6 post we came in at $1,385.88 VS $1472.92? We come out cheaper in almost every scenario! That's a 6 post, 90 inch (vs 93) 30 inch depth, 16 inch extension, strap safeties, standard jcup, standard straight pull up bar, 43 inch width (vs 41) and NO back cross member on either. I'll also mention that while we are imported, true 3x3 76.2x76.2 is a more expensive tubing, it is more steel and more weight, , and because of the weight is more expensive to ship as well.

Nice review, I have a Hydra and cost was a driver. I live in Canada, REP was more expensive due to shipping and probably exchange rates. So, for those in Canada, Bells of Steel is a great option. Great products, love the Hydra.
After hours of research I landed on the Rep PR-4000. Added it to my cart and when I went to check-out I noticed that shipping was $1,000. If you in Canada, Rogue is more expensive in general, many other companies don't ship to Canada, and Rep hasn't figured out how to ship efficiently. My 4 post Hydra rack arrives in June, so I can't vouch for its quality, but it basically seemed like my only reasonable option and customer service was solid.
This is essentially the problem for Canadians I would have loved to buy rep but the shipping is the knife in the back. It’s sad we cannot get all the other great offerings that easily and without really deep pockets
Yup, I've got a Hydra as well and it's extremely solid and versatile. BOS was great to work with and I even got a free hoodie with my first order! Definitely ordering from them again!
It gives you more options whereas 5/8 spacing gives you the ability to train in a very specific way. It's not like it's the only way or if it's anywhere near the best way so...
For the 3x3 explanation, I think it's simpler to say, "3x3 actually converts to 76.2mm x 76.2mm , but most imported racks are 75mmx75mm," and to add more detail, "...because they round down an inch to 25mm instead of 25.4mm."
If you call the company, there are even more customization options available! So if you have an idea of a rack and want to tweak something, definitely worth a call. Example of that - I wanted the half rack with 84" rear uprights, which was not an option online, but customer service put together a quote for me just how I wanted it. Really nice group also.
Bells Of Steel is like the best option in Canada. Titan you have to get reshipped which is super expensive, and REP and Rogue are super expensive with shipping. Aside from that there aren't many options in Canada. I'm personally waiting for their 3x3 1 inch hole series which is supposed to come out next month. Looking forward to using their attachments.
I had no idea these guys were in Canada until this video. Googled where they were located and turned out their Toronto location was 20 minutes from my work, was meant to be. $2k later I got a car load of stuff I was about to order from Rogue for my Rogue rack. Great video
So you ended up purchasing from Rogue? 😅 I like what I see with BOS but I know with Rogue I most likely wont have any warranty issues & in the future I can pass everything down all the way to my great grandchildren 😂
I for one am super happy BOS did this. I have a RML-490 from Rogue and the cost for accessory attachments is nuts. I had to get spotter arms from BOS and two sets of j-cups as my wife and I work out on it simultaneously. Here in Canada, I saved several hundred over buying cups and arms and shipping from Rogue. AND, the BOS j-cups at least have UHMW plastic on the front lip of the cup whereas the rogue ones do not (I have them wrapped up in hockey tape to avoid damaging my knurl... how Canadian of me). The BOS cups a fit tighter on my rack actually than the Rogue ones that came with it. The BOS cups are a slightly thinner gauge steel though, but still pretty darn thick. Quite pleased here.
If you're in Canada and starting your home gym, I found that compared to major brands (e.g., Rogue, Rep, Titan), Bells of Steel was really my only option. Rogue was outside my pricepoint as I needed a power rack plus a lot of other things. Rep's price was reasonable but shipping was over $1,000. Titan doesn't ship to Canada and it sounds like their product is poor to begin with. Basically, if you're in Canada and looking for a moderately priced start to your home gym, Bells of Steel is really the only option when compared to those other three companies.

I’ve done a ton of research and apparently (happy to be proven wrong though) BoS Hydra is the only quality rack that can come at a height < 80 inches (72 inches) AND offer a lat pull-down option. As such I consider it a superb power rack option for low ceiling garages.
I’m actually shopping for a rack right now, and was considering Rep or Bells. I built the same rack on both sites, and calculated shipping to my home in New Jersey for both. Rep PR4000 came out to be $1,266.62. Bells Hydra came out to $1,236.76. Not sure how your Bells calculation came out to be so much more, Co-op… I think the true “power” of the Bells rack though, is it’s actual 3x3 design. I can get a good quality rack, at an affordable price, and I have the option of using Rogue attachments if I like them more.

Same. I have done several variations on price and BOS always comes out much cheaper. This is a pretty crappy review overall. Everything Cooper complained about are things that people who actually lift just don't care about.
I've had the Light Commercial for a long time and love it. It was the cheapest big boy rack by far back in the day. And the roller cups/seal row attachment really stand out for me, along with rack height as a big game changer, started off with low ceilings. I've had no regrets with it, though being stuck to 5/8's narrows the ecosystem. Only attachments I can think of where the BoS fails to deliver though is the monolift isn't the greatest and that new super flexible leg curl/preacher curl attachment they don't have a good equivalent yet. But both are just nice to have. Any powerlifter who whines about not having a monolift should be kicked out. In my eyes the Hydra is their move to upgrade the quality and compete with the big boys now that they had a lot of success with their starting lines and the capital to invest in that level of industrial lines. However it's true, they're not as mature with the quality steel manufacturing so their cost/benefit is not making a good sell yet trying to outdo Rep Fitness and Titan Fitness at their own game. By all means they are still increasing the quality of their products and still innovating, which is why I continue to follow them, but if I were buying now brand new the Hydra wouldn't grab me as a good value buy. The Light Commercial though I enjoy that baby 3 times a week.
I love the options for the B.O.S. racks. Can please do a review on there cable towers and lever arms. I think they're a lot exercises you can on them. I would like to hear your opinion on those and other B.O.S. squat rack accessories.
I have a Rep PR4000 and a BOS Hydra. I like the Hydra better! Laser-cut numbers everywhere, flat foot walk-through design is awesome, and I like the powder coat better.
All of these racks are pretty, and have a bunch of bells and whistles. I have a barbell, plates, and an ancient legend rack, 3x3 with holes spaced 4” apart. I like things simple and effective
BOS is the best option for someone like me who has short enough sealings that a 80 inch rack is borderline. I got their light comertial because it appeared to be the nicest rack I could get at 72 inches tall. This was before they came out with the Hydra. The light comertial may only be 12 guage but I can't justify upgrading since I don't have interest in many attachments. I probably would have baught the Hydra though if I was starting from scratch now.
Honestly 12ga is plenty. I talked to BoS and they told me they planned to eventually make every Hydra attachment they offer for the 60mm racks as well.
@@killxswitch the only thing I might be interested in is a version of the lat pulldown that will fit the 72 inch light commercial similar to what they have for the hydra when I contacted them several months ago it was unclear whether that was something they would create
I like the 5/8” holes. The 1” at the gym does not allow me to adjust the height the way I want to. I also don’t think there is anything budget about these racks.

I grabbed the Half rack but with 4 uprights. Depth is 17" but use the spotter arms and it is perfect! Very sturdy even with lever arms. 56" flat foot an it does not move. 1222 well spent for my first power squat rack foraho!! 🏋️♂️😎⚖ Discount code dropped $62 off. They sent STICKERS an a FLAG. Do you have a full breakdown of how you configured the 6-post build out? That price for BoS means you either loaded it with more attachments than standard or you used the Canadian site instead of the US site. I like the compatibility with Rogue Monster Lite in the Hydra, but Rep attachments have really ramped up in the last year or two so being able to choose the width is smart for BoS.
I’ll take Rep every day of the week over this. Checked out BOS before getting my PR5000. Saw no reason to even really consider them. Went with a PR5000 and could not be happier.
I’d love to hear your opinion on the seal row pad and their rack-attached leg extension/ham curl vs the bulletproof isolated or some other leg ext/ham curl options
Have the Hydra. It's fantastic AND it's a true 3x3. No regrets skipping Rogue or REP and spending the savings on extra equipment. The J-cups suck. Otherwise it's excellent.
Thank you for the video. I was waiting for this one. I like rogue stuff and 5/8ths gets me everything I need. But Rogue will not fit where I live. My biggest concern was fit and finish. I have seen some of their equipment in their own videos with the paint scratched right off and relatively new. Also the lazer cut numbers not really available on other 5/8ths racks.
I have rogue monster lite for just about everything. I did get the new BOS seal row pad. Would like to see your thoughts on it. The seal row pad's 2nd hole to secure it doesn't line up. It's not needed, but it'd be nice if it did. Also I agree with the BOS hitch pins. I HATE the cheap laser cut plate on them. They are sharp and just not nice. A standard hitch pin would have been way nicer.
I have a BOS rack. The j cup isn’t up to snuff. It needs to be *way* bigger, more uhmw… Id pay for quality j cups and as BOS grows they need to offer high quality items along with their typical budget items.
I'd also like you to go into the 5/8" versus 1" hole analysis. In my view, 5/8' is superior because it enables smaller spacing between holes and hence more customizable for the height of each individual, which is SO important for safety and comfort. Please comment, Coop, thank you!
When I saw the pins with the plate sticking out, I didn't really care for them either, I even mentioned it on BOS youtube that I would jab myself with those pins

I would probably prefer a metric 75mm by 75MM - cause if you are buying BoS cost is probably a factor - so buying 3rd party accessories from Rep and Titan are more likely than Rogue accessories. Anyways, looks like they have pretty much all of the accessories anyways, so no need to go to other brands.
Yeah. I’m in the uk so most of the gear here we can’t get without selling a kidney to pay for shipping costs. I bought a mirafit (Uk brand) m4 rack which is 75x75 11g with 5/8 (actually 16mm) holes. Was hoping it would work with the rogue lite foam roller (Was trying to make jammer leg extension which didn’t work out very well) but I needed to buy a 2mm smaller hitch pin to get it to fix. The standard bolts were just a fraction too large.
I'm still planning on getting a Hydra - It's the only power rack that comes in less than 80" and my basement has low ceilings. It's the only option available for me for a power rack, lol.
For anyone wondering (because Coop mentioned it and I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in comments), I dug around on the BOS website and their products are made in China, plates in Vietnam. But "all personally inspected by the CEO Kaevon", according to the website. Cheers
I am curious how much extra we could pay to get the same product with all of the same options from Rogue Fitness? If it is only $100 more I would prefer to support an American company and American jobs. This may be one of those situations where you purchase most of your stuff from Rogue Fitness and then some of the attachments from bells of steel that Rogue has not come out with yet.
Oh it would be much more than a $100 difference. Rogue 3x3 power racks hover at around $875 USD with no options other than basic pin pipe safeties and j cups, and that's for the smallest Monster Lite rack.

I've been pricing out various flat footed racks for my new home, and for the accessories I want the Rogue is $341.63 more expensive shipped to my zip code, a 19% premium.
@@vodka7 Rogue will have the greater resale value if you ever decide to sell (if that matters to you). Rep and Rogue are definitely my top two when it comes to almost everything these days. Probably can’t go wrong either way.
Seriously is he comparing each six posts but he's showing a four post. I wish you would have actually shown the purchase price on the web page of each product and specify additional shipping prices. He is influenced by affiliate links because that's how he makes his money. I'm not sure if he's correct about the pricing or not but showing four posts on the picture and verbalizing six posts makes me question the pricing especially when you didn't include shipping options.
I'm pricing out a gym right now from multiple companies and I'm leaning heavily towards bells of steel cuz I can get a six post with a logo plate and 8 weight pins and roll or Jcups for 200 bucks less than he f****** stated

I know BOS and Titan do free shipping, but I thought REP charges for their shipping. Can you do 2” x 2” rack attachment accessories? Really good budget options there. Like hulk fit and bos to the fitness reality ecosystem.

Thanks for another great review! You spoke on attachments and 5/8th vs. 1in. Could you do a video gym review with your thoughts on the best 1" rack and the attachments you find worth buying, then do the same with a 5/8" frame. Finally, in the end, do a price breakdown and compare the two racks, and which one do you think would best fit a home gym? I know asking a lot, but like you stated, "This is a big buy, and a lot of thinking goes into it."
25 mm holes has zero advantages to 16 mm holes (1 inch vs 5/8). The same goes for 76.2 mm uprights vs 75 mm uprights. It might not even be stronger because the bigger holes weaken the uprights. Both options can take so much more load than any human could possible exert, that it is just silly to speak about which system might be strongest. The 16 mm holes has a clear advantage and that is the closer hole spacing. It is also slightly less bulky and cheaper. For this reason I would choose 16 mm. I got a Rogue RML-490C and I am very happy with it. At the time I didn't fully understand the 16 mm vs 25 mm thing, so I choose it over the RM-6 because it was slightly cheaper. But I am happy that I did now. 75 mm uprights also has a clear advantage over 76.2 mm. You can fit any 76.2 mm attachment to a 75 mm upright but not the other way around. It might be slightly loose but that is easily fixed using some tape or filt. It is much harder to make a clean job of reducing a 75 mm attachment so it could fit on a 76.2 mm rack.
Can you do a review of the rack attached BOS leg extension/leg curl doohickey. It seems like it could be a very versatile attachment with possible unplanned other uses if you have a good imagination. Thx
Coop, 3:30 that’s not the case. Metric is just easier to get in Asia. If you wanna get imperial you need to meet a Minimum Order Quantity and store the steel and usually have a fairly long lead time as well.
I have a similar spring-loaded set and also a pair of the standard counterweight ones. Spring loaded is much nicer to use. Smaller, lighter, quieter to operate
@@DaveSchneider7 thank you I never find any good reviews or comparisons on them it seems like nobody uses mono-arms. Do you think if you had a very close and clean squat walkout that they would move enough to negate a walk out, I only clear the J-cups by like and inch normally.
It’ll depend on the attachment. I’d try to confirm it online before buying. There are lists on the internet that show which brands attachments fit others racks.
The key thing to remember, re BoS equipment, is that it is designed to a price point. So whether the BoS product is still the best value for money applies to the Hydra series needs to be determined, then if not a price point advantage, is it as good or better than the comp. Regardless, no one "needs" this for their lifts unless you are elite. And you are not.
Any other basement dwellers in the comments, this rack comes in a 72" height, that even with the lat pulldown attachment takes it up to 76.5". Much shorter than anything I've found from Rep, Titan, Body Solid...
I think on the topic of price, the Bells rack needs to cost more because of tooling needed to make an SAE spec rack in a metric facility. I'm surprised by the difference even though I knew the Bells rack must cost more

Gotta say, I disagree that 5/8" holes are inferior. That 1" hardware isn't giving you anything. Westside spacing makes it an easy win for 5/8"

However it's true, they're not as mature with the quality steel manufacturing so their cost/benefit is not making a good sell yet trying to outdo Rep Fitness and Titan Fitness at their own game. By all means they are still increasing the quality of their products and still innovating, which is why I continue to follow them, but if I were buying now brand new the Hydra wouldn't grab me as a good value buy. The Light Commercial though I enjoy that baby 3 times a week.
Love bells of steel - some great dialed in options so you can choose the best rack for your specific situation
I love the options for the B.O.S. racks. Can please do a review on there cable towers and lever arms. I think they're a lot exercises you can on them. I would like to hear your opinion on those and other B.O.S. squat rack accessories.
I have a Rep PR4000 and a BOS Hydra. I like the Hydra better! Laser-cut numbers everywhere, flat foot walk-through design is awesome, and I like the powder coat better.
That price is BS, im pricing out a 6 post with logo plate a pair of rollers and 8 weight storage pins at 1700
All of these racks are pretty, and have a bunch of bells and whistles. I have a barbell, plates, and an ancient legend rack, 3x3 with holes spaced 4” apart.
I like things simple and effective
BOS is the best option for someone like me who has short enough sealings that a 80 inch rack is borderline. I got their light comertial because it appeared to be the nicest rack I could get at 72 inches tall. This was before they came out with the Hydra. The light comertial may only be 12 guage but I can't justify upgrading since I don't have interest in many attachments. I probably would have baught the Hydra though if I was starting from scratch now.
Honestly 12ga is plenty. I talked to BoS and they told me they planned to eventually make every Hydra attachment they offer for the 60mm racks as well.

I like the 5/8” holes. The 1” at the gym does not allow me to adjust the height the way I want to.
I also don’t think there is anything budget about these racks.

I grabbed the Half rack but with 4 uprights. Depth is 17" but use the spotter arms and it is perfect! Very sturdy even with lever arms. 56" flat foot an it does not move. 1222 well spent for my first power squat rack foraho!! 🏋️♂️😎⚖ Discount code dropped $62 off. They sent STICKERS an a FLAG. Do you have a full breakdown of how you configured the 6-post build out? That price for BoS means you either loaded it with more attachments than standard or you used the Canadian site instead of the US site.
I like the compatibility with Rogue Monster Lite in the Hydra, but Rep attachments have really ramped up in the last year or two so being able to choose the width is smart for BoS.
I’ll take Rep every day of the week over this. Checked out BOS before getting my PR5000. Saw no reason to even really consider them. Went with a PR5000 and could not be happier.

Have the Hydra. It's fantastic AND it's a true 3x3. No regrets skipping Rogue or REP and spending the savings on extra equipment. The J-cups suck. Otherwise it's excellent.

Thank you for the video. I was waiting for this one. I like rogue stuff and 5/8ths gets me everything I need. But Rogue will not fit where I live. My biggest concern was fit and finish. I have seen some of their equipment in their own videos with the paint scratched right off and relatively new. Also the lazer cut numbers not really available on other 5/8ths racks.

I have rogue monster lite for just about everything. I did get the new BOS seal row pad. Would like to see your thoughts on it. The seal row pad's 2nd hole to secure it doesn't line up. It's not needed, but it'd be nice if it did. Also I agree with the BOS hitch pins. I HATE the cheap laser cut plate on them. They are sharp and just not nice. A standard hitch pin would have been way nicer.
The hitch pins are kinda dumb. I prefer to use the red handles or band pegs. Also hitch pins with a tapered tip are so nice to use

I have a BOS rack. The j cup isn’t up to snuff. It needs to be *way* bigger, more uhmw… Id pay for quality j cups and as BOS grows they need to offer high quality items along with their typical budget items.

I'd also like you to go into the 5/8" versus 1" hole analysis. In my view, 5/8' is superior because it enables smaller spacing between holes and hence more customizable for the height of each individual, which is SO important for safety and comfort. Please comment, Coop, thank you!

When I saw the pins with the plate sticking out, I didn't really care for them either, I even mentioned it on BOS youtube that I would jab myself with those pins

I would probably prefer a metric 75mm by 75MM - cause if you are buying BoS cost is probably a factor - so buying 3rd party accessories from Rep and Titan are more likely than Rogue accessories. Anyways, looks like they have pretty much all of the accessories anyways, so no need to go to other brands.
Yeah. I’m in the uk so most of the gear here we can’t get without selling a kidney to pay for shipping costs. I bought a mirafit (Uk brand) m4 rack which is 75x75 11g with 5/8 (actually 16mm) holes. Was hoping it would work with the rogue lite foam roller (Was trying to make jammer leg extension which didn’t work out very well) but I needed to buy a 2mm smaller hitch pin to get it to fix. The standard bolts were just a fraction too large.

I am curious how much extra we could pay to get the same product with all of the same options from Rogue Fitness? If it is only $100 more I would prefer to support an American company and American jobs. This may be one of those situations where you purchase most of your stuff from Rogue Fitness and then some of the attachments from bells of steel that Rogue has not come out with yet.
Oh it would be much more than a $100 difference. Rogue 3x3 power racks hover at around $875 USD with no options other than basic pin pipe safeties and j cups, and that's for the smallest Monster Lite rack.

I've been pricing out various flat footed racks for my new home, and for the accessories I want the Rogue is $341.63 more expensive shipped to my zip code, a 19% premium.
@@vodka7 Rogue will have the greater resale value if you ever decide to sell (if that matters to you). Rep and Rogue are definitely my top two when it comes to almost everything these days. Probably can’t go wrong either way.

I have a hydra and I love it!
25 mm holes has zero advantages to 16 mm holes (1 inch vs 5/8). The same goes for 76.2 mm uprights vs 75 mm uprights. It might not even be stronger because the bigger holes weaken the uprights. Both options can take so much more load than any human could possible exert, that it is just silly to speak about which system might be strongest.
The 16 mm holes has a clear advantage and that is the closer hole spacing. It is also slightly less bulky and cheaper. For this reason I would choose 16 mm. I got a Rogue RML-490C and I am very happy with it. At the time I didn't fully understand the 16 mm vs 25 mm thing, so I choose it over the RM-6 because it was slightly cheaper. But I am happy that I did now.
75 mm uprights also has a clear advantage over 76.2 mm. You can fit any 76.2 mm attachment to a 75 mm upright but not the other way around. It might be slightly loose but that is easily fixed using some tape or filt. It is much harder to make a clean job of reducing a 75 mm attachment so it could fit on a 76.2 mm rack.
Can you do a review of the rack attached BOS leg extension/leg curl doohickey. It seems like it could be a very versatile attachment with possible unplanned other uses if you have a good imagination. Thx

Coop, 3:30 that’s not the case. Metric is just easier to get in Asia. If you wanna get imperial you need to meet a Minimum Order Quantity and store the steel and usually have a fairly long lead time as well.
I'm curious about the monolifts. Much smaller than everything else out there other than Mutant Metals.
I have a similar spring-loaded set and also a pair of the standard counterweight ones. Spring loaded is much nicer to use. Smaller, lighter, quieter to operate

It’ll depend on the attachment. I’d try to confirm it online before buying. There are lists on the internet that show which brands attachments fit others racks.

The key thing to remember, re BoS equipment, is that it is designed to a price point. So whether the BoS product is still the best value for money applies to the Hydra series needs to be determined, then if not a price point advantage, is it as good or better than the comp. Regardless, no one "needs" this for their lifts unless you are elite. And you are not.
They upped their seal row pad 33% since this video. ($149 to $199). They need some Coop shame thrown their way.

Any other basement dwellers in the comments, this rack comes in a 72" height, that even with the lat pulldown attachment takes it up to 76.5". Much shorter than anything I've found from Rep, Titan, Body Solid...
I think on the topic of price, the Bells rack needs to cost more because of tooling needed to make an SAE spec rack in a metric facility. I'm surprised by the difference even though I knew the Bells rack must cost more
When I priced racks the Rep was more than the Hydra. At least in my configuration. And the Hydra lever arms are better.
We metric people can make any size you want including making something 1.2 mm larger. It won't be any more expensive except for the extra metal used.
