Just so you know, the top part of the calipers (the two spikes) are met to measure inside diameter. (of course you might be doing it to generate comments to increase engagement) (which I'm perfectly happy to do)
When measuring for inner diameter using calipers, you need to use the top side of the tool. Though it is still possible to get pretty close the way shown.
I went to the rogue website this morning and they charge shipping for their plates. With taxes and shipping looking at $100 difference between BoS and rogue
I have the mighty grips, and they're great budget plates. The grey powder coating has lasted well, and there is very little rust, but that has more to do with living in a low-humidity environment. It was also super handy that I live in the same city the company is located, so I didn't have to pay for any shipping. LOL I used to work for these guys and they are dedicated to delivering the best service and the best quality-price ratio possible.
Hey Coop! I just checked StrengthCo's site, and shipping for a pair of 45lb plates is $21 to MD, bringing my total to $216 per pair. Also, Bell's site has a pair of 45's listed as $239.
Hey Coop...what about some of Watson's offerings? Their barbells, EZ-Curl bars, weight plates, maybe some of their machines etc. A few people have seen their dumbbells, but not much else.
FYI, I looked at a set of 4x45 2x25 4x10 2x5 & 2x2.5 from both Strength Co and BoS cast iron gray plates. Inclosing shipping to my house in NJ, the Strenfth Co were less expensive.
@ 4:32, Sam is using the wrong side of the caliper to measure the hole diameter. That side is used to measure outside diameter, the other side is used for inside diameter.
When you do rogue please measure the echo bumper plates outside 450mm +/- 3mm tolerance. It's a size tolerance snuck under the specs... Their bumpers from my personal experience had the 10s and 15s as the largest so first to hit the ground and absorb all the weight on a bar, with shortest warranty this is not ideal.. them being larger is the opposite of other companies with smaller 10s* and/or 15s so it goes against industry standards where the light denominations are the same size or smaller.
I have a 25lb pair of Rogue Echo V2s, and they're not the same diameter as the Fringe Sport bumper plates I have. I was disappointed because I didn't want 25s to hold all of that weight. I'm filling out my collection with Fringe Sport bumpers because they're cheaper than Rogue.
I've had good luck with BOS plates -- all very close to their stated weight. They also support their products well and will quickly replace plates that aren't within tolerance or arrived damaged.
Have you considered checking out goods from Strength-shop? Probably larger in Europe, than in the US, but since they do have a US shop, it would be interesting to get your take on it.
They used to sell 15 lb milled plates. You could get 4-15s, 4-5's. and 2-2.5's, along with your 45's, and make any weight combo with the least possible amount of change plates but they stopped offering that for some reason.
The black with colored text look a lot like Fringe Sport Contrast Bumpers. Those are the best general bumper option here (if you're like me) for one always overlooked reason - thinner ridges near the perimeter. This allows for easy one hand carrying even on 45s. The wider lips are too big and there's nothing to get your fingers under (unless you have massive hands) so they are more difficult to support. One of the advantages of iron is handling, and while these cannot compare - you at least have the option of one hand handling that is good enough for your typical loading/deloading.
How about a review of Xmark fitness curl bars and barbells? They have so many options and alot of them seem very similar that it's difficult to make a decision.
You should review Bolt Fitness plates/products(Octabell adjustable) and though it’s not plate related you should review RitFit Power Racks! Great work keep it up, helping my build my garage gym with more knowledge!
A Durometer is a tool used to measure "shore" a value for hardness. A rubber will be 70 shore, 80shore, 90 shore, etc. Big pet peeve and commonly wrong on manufacturer's websites.
I'm down for some made in the USA. I'm a veteran, etc. That said, I'll look into strength co. TBH I can't do rogue again. The customer service/support, logistics and other aspects about them are horrible.
Rogue only has free shipping when you buy a full set, not individual pairs. So saying a pair of 45s cost $180 is misleading. To me in WA it was about $90 shipping for a pair of 45s, so price is more like $270 before tax. Shipping is baked into the price of the sets I’m sure.
Not plate related but can I'm just starting my home gym. Not only I do not have a ton of room/space, my budget at this time is also not huge. I was thinking about buying the BodySolid bench that combines leg extension with leg curl (horizontal - which is what I want). In my country costs around €600,00 maybe. But I am not sure about it when it's in the horizontal - leg curl - mode. Could you please make a review about this bench - sometime, when you see fit, if you see fit? Thank you!
The competition plates were a disappointment, they came damaged after they mailing system lost my first pair of 45s (NOT B.O.S fault there). Second pair the hub was loose, now I notice my 25lbs the hub in the middle is loose now. Cheaper for a reason, Titan ones I purchased a yr ago are still going strong with no issues. Sometimes you gotta spend the little extra cash on rogue or something similar. Just a quick not too what made the experience a little salty is the fact that Bells Customer service is absolutely terrible compared to titan, rogue, rep or fringe. Each their own thanks for the review Coop.
Coop I’d love you to do this on Vulcan strength. I have their polyurethane plates. They are vet owned an me being a vet I don’t think they get enough shine they have great plates
I’m curious how often people need to replace their weight plates, due to wear and tear. If I’m not deadlifting directly on concrete or storing them in the backyard in the winter under 3 ft of snow, how is an iron plate going to fail?
I have their crumb bumper plates because they were they were the only plates I could find during the pandemic, and I love them. They feel great to handle and they feel really sturdy.
@@ryandenton3016 I don't remember. If they had a smell, it was probably buried by the stronger smell of the horse stall mats I got. They were a bit oily though.
I don't deadlift at home because I don't want my iron plates to hit the floor. I have rouge deep dish. Are bells of steel or rouge rubber plates taller than deep dish? I don't mind having 2 rubber 45 I can put in the beginning. To hit the floor instead of iron.
Warning! Potential scam involving Garage Gym Reviews (GGR). I won a prize but had to pay $109 for shipping. Then they asked for an additional $150 customs fee. After paying, they said the prize was delayed due to an accident. Weeks later, they offered a refund but demanded $150 and new shipping costs. When the prize was sent to the wrong address, they asked me to pay for shipping again. I refused and requested a refund. They insisted I pay $150 to receive it. I only paid GGR, not the shipping company. This situation is at a standstill, and GGR has been rude and unreasonable. Spread awareness to avoid dealing with this.
I've yet to find anyone - maybe a huge fan of Metallica's logo in the "Load" days - that likes the design on the Might Grip plates. Shocked that went unremarked upon.
Why do you and Sam keep loading the weights backwards on the bar? Is it so we can see the markings (for the video) or do you just like stressing your wrists?
You said 1% tolerance on the grey plates at 4:51 the scale shows 44.4lb which is out of spec assuming the scale is dead accurate (probably not). Think you need a better scale.
Has anyone used Fray Fitness bumper plates? They are extremely cheap and I was looking to get them to save some cost as I build my garage jim. I won’t be dropping my barbell much or from very high. Any thoughts?!?
Rogue does not have free shipping lmao. 50 dollars to get a pair of deep dishes from Ohio to NC. 120 for a pair of deep dishes and a few kettlebells. Love rogue but you def pay for shipping 95% of the time.
Use shorter blades on the other side of the caliber when measuring inner diameter : )
*Caliper* but yes, you’re correct. They’re using the tool upside down. 4:08

hey uhhh 4:07 4:32 there's a better way to use those calipers to measure inside diamaters
I was floored when I saw that 😂
Exactly this. This does put the accuracy in question for me. Can you confirm you measured using the using the inside hooks?
Coop, have you checked our shipping prices lately? A 45 ships for $10.50 anywhere in the country...
Just so you know, the top part of the calipers (the two spikes) are met to measure inside diameter.
(of course you might be doing it to generate comments to increase engagement) (which I'm perfectly happy to do)
Rep just came out with a bunch of new barbells. It would be awesome to do a rundown of their whole barbell lineup and how they each compare to others.
you gotta review the walmart/amazon everyday essentials bumper plates
I'd love to see a video reviewing every barbell in Rep's new line. Or at least the Double Black Diamond Power Bar.
Their weight tolerance is the real win here. And, they are cheaper for Canadians than the American options due to shipping and customs issues.
When measuring for inner diameter using calipers, you need to use the top side of the tool. Though it is still possible to get pretty close the way shown.
The StrengthCo 45s are $237 shipped if your state has sales tax. If it doesn’t it’s $21 less so $216 shipped for made in USA
$21 for a pair of 45s anywhere in the US, including HI and AK. We charge sales tax in CA, TX, and SC

Do FringeSport's plates. They seem to have a very good name/rep online and a smaller than the big 4 (or 3.5)
