Just before I first watched this episode, my mother and I were joking, about the ways we Americans pronounce the word “Dalek,” and ended up imagining Lina Lamont from Singing in the Rain, getting cast in Doctor Who.
      “Rrrround tones, rrrrround tones. Dah-leks.”
      “Dallicks!”
      “Dah-leks.”
      “Darleks.”

I have to agree with you, the episode receives a lot of hate but it isn’t as bad as many people make it out to be, the general idea of the episode is actually very good and I love the Dalek sec Hybrid and I still get upset about his death because I think he should’ve been kept alive. I actually really like the story and feel it’s very underrated and too hated and it’s by far not the worst Dalek story in my opinion (I don’t really have a worst Dalek story to be honest, I just prefer certain episodes to others). I also feel very sorry for the actual writer of the episode because she was literally driven to tears because of the pure Backlash the episode received and for a long time she refused to write another episode (but luckily she returned to write the S4 episode The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poisoned sky, which is another very underrated episode in my opinion) xx

I do to. Its got loads of interesting ideas behind it, and while some of them flop, I think it's really good that they pushed the boat out on it. Also, plunging the Daleks into the art deco stylings of 30s, set against the backdrop of the depression, is a really good idea. It's still surprising to me that despite all that, it feels so inadequate and hollow. :/

I differ with Mr. Tardis on the relative merits of Evil of the Daleks. I watched it when it was originally broadcast in 1967, then repeated in 1968. It remains seared in my memory. The climactic Dalek civil war in episode 7 alone assures its place among the greatest Dalek stories of all time. But it has a good deal more going for it, including its stellar cast and the marvellous mansion house, Grim's Dyke, where it was filmed. What's more, the Daleks have never been more menacing. Despite its shortcomings, it remains my favourite Dalek story.

I get the animated DVDs because I'm a completist, but after one or two views I find myself going back to the original soundtracks and treating them as if they were Big Finish or radio plays. The cartoon versions don't engage me as much, and I often find the animation distracting.

The reason the episode gets so much hype is because this episode cemented the Daleks place in the Whoniverse because in this story the Daleks are vulnerable and that is when the Daleks are always at their best they are evil Conniving and filled with pure hatred, this episode basically made the Daleks the scary villains we know them to be. I also agreed with him so much about Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks as being the most underrated Dalek episode of all time, I actually really like the episode and felt bad for the writer because she was actually brought to physical tears over the massive backlash the episode received from the fandom and it made her not want to return to write another episode again (though she did luckily in series 4 because she wrote the episodes The sontaran stratagem/the poisoned sky) xx

6:35 You're misrepresenting how Clara slapping the Doctor is portrayed in the actual episode. While a female character slapping the male character has been played as "funny" numerous times in series 6-8 of the new series, here it's not. Here it's supposed to be played as a "dramatic" moment as Clara is annoyed at the Doctor's cynical attitude to believing the Daleks are incapable of becoming good. Now I'm not defending the moment itself as I don't like it either and could easily be edited out, but it's something I thought it was worth pointing out.

There’s a lot of randomly really funny/campy moments in Daleks in Manhattan that are great. In one part the Daleks start trying to secretly discuss their doubts about Sec, and so one of them “looks over his shoulder” to see if anyones listening, and the entire Dalek head does a full 180 at a comically slow speed. There’s another shot where the Pig Slaves are taking the lift to the top floor of the building to stop the Doctor and in the middle of all the action and tension there’s just a shot of all these Pigmen awkwardly waiting in the lift that made me spit out my drink.

Braver man than me putting Evil in at #19! What the hell, man?😂
Otherwise, I think we can generally agree that Steven Moffat - in his role as both writer and producer - didn't produce great Dalek stories. They just weren't that good in his run.
What is more interesting, however, is that Chris Chibnal was so good at it,... Just a shame that the rest of his work wasn't so strong.

Love the editing on this. I can't speak as to the quality of most of the Classic Series ones as I haven't seen them, but overall a solid list. While I have a few issues with the equivalences it tries to make, I think my favorite has to be Dalek. It had a simple goal: To make that metallic pepper pot the most terrifying thing in the universe. And it succeeded, re-establishing the Daleks not only in their actions but in their motivations. A tall order from young me's perspective, but they did it. Maybe too much. Honestly, I think a problem with the Davies Era (The, uh, first one) was that the Daleks were SO powerful that if they weren't extinct or rendered down to only a few they were a threat that needed to be dealt with IMMEDIATLY or everyone dies. Same with The Master and to a lesser extent the Cybermen. Moffat's Era...brought them back permanently but significantly reduced the fear factor ngl. I think Chibbers's stuff has the best of both worlds: The Daleks still exist, they're still very powerful and it takes clever planning to defeat them, but it's not like they're gonna wipe out everything if the Doctor isn't looking, yeah?

I've always had the impression that, even though they were trying to trick each other, both the Doctor and Davros really _did_ mean what they had said. The Doctor, especially Twelve, is the kind of person who hopes for the best but prepares for the worst; he would've been playing into Davros' plan whilst hoping at every step of the way that Davros _wouldn't_ follow through.
On the other hand, I think Davros genuinely _does_ admire the Doctor, even if it's just because of his intelligence. It seems entirely likely that, like Missy, Davros would _love_ to be friends with the Doctor, but he never lets that get in the way of his plans. I also believe that the two of them _were_ treating the whole encounter as though it was their last, because neither of them could be completely _sure_ of what the other would do. If the Doctor ended up _not_ trying to help Davros, then they'd want to finally clear the air between them, and the same would go for if Davros didn't try to trap the Doctor.
I don't think it's out of the question for Davros to want some validation in his final moments, nor do I believe the Doctor _wouldn't_ go into it hoping that Davros might change.
I disagree with a lot of your points about the two-parter. The casing thing was to demonstrate just how far Davros went into limiting the Daleks' range of emotion; not only did he purge them of all positive emotions on a genetic level, he also encased them into machines that prevent anything that _does_ slip through from coming out.
For the episodes being "confusing", this is what happens:
    1. The Doctor accidentally lands on Skaro during its millenia-long war, almost saves space-Hitler when he was a child, and runs away in horror.
    2. The Doctor, feeling ashamed of himself for leaving a child to die alone, hears that a dying Davros is looking for him. Believing that meeting Davros may lead to his death, he sends his will to his friend Missy, before performing a death ritual in the most un-Time Lord way he can: a big party _full_ of anachronisms.
    3. The episode happens, with Davros and the Doctor hashing it out one final time, and Missy trying to get Clara to become as recklessly overconfident and arrogant as the Doctor.
    4. The Doctor returns to Skaro in an attempt to teach young Davros about mercy, allowing just enough of his worldview to seep into Davros' that Davros is unable to completely purge the concept of mercy from the Daleks.

While I personally would flip Revolution Of The Daleks as #13 and The Daleks' Master Plan as #12, I completely agree with this list. Originally, I thought that Asylum Of The Daleks was #25 instead of #24 due to the Amy/Rory subplot happening right around the time that my parents were divorcing, but I can see why it betters The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar which is rightfully at #25. And of course, Genesis Of The Daleks is absolutely the #1 Dalek story in the history of televised Doctor Who.

I'm currently doing a Dalek marathon of everything story wise they've been in throughout this lockdown, so I've do e alot of reviews about them on my Instagram, so this video came out at the right time. I'm so glad "The magicians apprentice/the witches familiar" is last it's my least favourite Dalek story of everything they've been in. There are some stories I've came across like annual stories or short comics that are ridiculously werid or gets them wrong, like a mole defeating them or Daleks believing red is explosion proof or even being defeated by pebbles. But all of those ridiculous stories don't take themselves seriously and embrace the werid side and make jokes about the Daleks. But "The Magicians Apprentice" just thinks it's being very clever and deep and tries to win special fan points for Dalek references. Some that don't even work and are there for the sake of it, like why is a renegade Dalek there if Davros has some control of these Daleks again? Plus I'll never not get mad at that idea of the Daleks aren't really evil nonsense. If you want to do that idea with a twist do it to fit the theme of Davros dying, have a what if ? Maybe in his last days alive he actually did try out the doctors idea of making them less aggressive and have an understanding of Pitty etc. But as it's Davros who also like to desive, have the suit try and stop that so in his messed up head he's got both bad Daleks and good Daleks all in one.
If anyone likes the story your okay too. Btw if you want check out my Reviews @behindasofacreations

All missing episodes have their audios available for listening, and the presence of telesnaps (‘screenshots’ taken for reference) as well as behind-the-scenes pictures allows for strong reconstructions recapturing how the broadcast would have been like.
In addition, both “The Power Of The Daleks” and “Evil Of The Daleks” have been fully animated.
For more information about the current status of missing episodes and all the different ways you can experience each of them, I’d highly recommend you Josh Snares’ video on the matter.
