I found myself enjoying NFS Unbound a lot more when I found a Spotify playlist with many great classic NFS songs and played that in the background, while the in-game music was off. And counter-argument: Non-rock songs also have their place in high-octane racing games. I think a major factor would be that you can feel that older racing games were tested with their OSTs, and OSTs weren't used sparingly (Black List demos and intros come to mind) And at the same time Unbound's OST just doesn't fit the fast paced racing of the game. A lot of it reminds me of that Dynamite MC track from Carbon - you can't rush to it, it gives off more of a cruising vibe.
I played NFS MW 2005 before i heard english music... i got into linkin park and eminem coz of NFSMW... i got into metal coz of NFSMW... i got into GTA coz of NFSMW... NFSMW shaping my entire personality right there
I think EA was just basing their soundtracks around 2 things: Which genre of songs are popular this year? And What is the theme of the game? Like underground 2, most of the soundtracks were based around some alternative rock, rap but it had more focused on club music (idk what's the term for this one). Most wanted '05 is focused on the mix of (alternative or non alternative) rock, and rap because it's the popular genres during that era. Rivals was like this, most of the music on that game were EDM. It was released back in like 2014? I think, and the popular music there were the likes of skrillex, and other similar remixers and artists. I'm not saying that their music is getting bad over the years, it's just that the NFS games won't fit their main theme if their soundtrack was way off. You don't want the music of the game to feature rock if most of the characters there are part of a specific community. There could be some people on said community who likes rock but you know how the internet goes. Someone will get offended if EA made that decision like "EA DOESN'T KNOW WHAT [insert race or type of community here] LISTEN TO!" and get a huge backlash, resulting for the game to get some infamy instead of praise. If we get a NFS game where we can choose specific genres like alternative rock, heavy metal, EDM, rap, house and many more in specific types like: you want some EDM while customizing while having heavy metal as your race and pop as your non race cruise music, then people could be happy. Nice vid man. You earned a sub.
In some sort of way, yes. "Gotta know the music trends that the kids would love!" -EA probably Unfortunately, most who bought it still hated it because either, a few of them knew the song to even love it or it was played so much on a specific area (maybe radio) that they can't fathom liking it on the game. And also most music today lacks the aggressiveness that the past music had. Even Rivals which is filled with EDM had some banger music that makes you energized, even if you're driving around the map.
but i feel like EA just give the studio to finish need for speed, there is no way they would release a garbage quality unbound if EA got their hands on development
I think EA isn't that keen on creating different games if one of their sports games gives them the money. They just see what's trending, make some twists on it and even borrow something from their other games and then poof, new game. Even if they fix unbound or any of their games before release, it can never reach the fan's expectations. I never bought any games from EA as I'm a filthy pirate. Even if I bought any of their games, I'll still buy those who had offline capabilities. The NFS series is the only game franchise that's long running that still had games with offline capabilities. I'm still hoping TDU Solar Crown has offline play because that game looks nice.
i agree with your complaint about the soundtrack.some songs are fine and fit with the game but god damn they repeat 1000 times over and sometimes just make you want to jump off a cliff
I played NFS: Most Wanted for the first time at the end of 2021, and I immediately noticed how damn dope the soundtrack was. I still have Shapeshifter by Celldweller on my playlist when I'm out.
It's less about the genre of the music, and more the energy of the music for me. However, some genres just have a distinct energy. I found that Unbound tried to choose songs that are high energy to race with. Though, the difference between HEY NEIGHBOR! or Front to Back and songs like Ice Cream really makes me wish there was an EA Trax options menu like the good old days. Sidenote: Major L that Unbound doesn't have a separate track list for the garage like prior games did. Even Heat did.
This is amazing content honestly, I'm sure you'll be to grow your channel exponentially overtime :) As for NFS, I do miss the hard-hitting soundtrack that adapts to your situation (like in NFS Most Wanted), it's crazy to me that they got rid of the idea for the games since. Most Wanted truly is a product of its time, but also ahead of it in a certain way.
Need for speed most wanted, carbon, collin mcrae dirt 2, burnout 3, gta sa and 4, pes 2006-2013 were the games I used to play in my childhood, and I listen to their soundtrack to this day. And of course, minecraft and undertale, but these are a diferent kind of soundtracks hehe
Prostreet is and always will be one of my favorite racing games and probably the defining title of that series for me, and the soundtrack is a big reason why on top of it being a really good game, lol
I DID enjoy NFS Heat's chill soundtrack in the garage, I think it sets a nice mood while you're building your car and it gives you a break from the usually awful music selection of that game.
Funnily enough when i was young the only games i played were underground 1 and 2, which comprised of rock, rap, hip hop and electronica. What's funnier is that Linkin Park is my favorite band due to their mixing of these genres. So that comment made on games influencing music taste when young is definitely a true statement to make.
That's how you make mistakes and miss your breaking point, or turn in too late, or get on throttle too soon and spin out. You want to be relaxed to drive fast and with fewer mistakes.
I can confirm that this is not just you being biased due to nostalgia! The earliest nfs game I ever played was no limits on my iPad, cause I never had a console at the time :( but in nfs heat, I can’t go a couple minutes with the music turned on, but whenever I hear music from the old titles I never played, I can’t help but think “what happened” 😂
Current racing games are differently suffering from too few high octane tracks and tho I do also believe it’s important to have some more chill tracks in between there is currently just too many and they are often so boring that you just skip past them if given the option
I am of the opinion that racing games need to work on more dynamic soundtracks, like how the new DOOM games work. If you are cruising in free-roam, no mission, going under a certain speed, give me trap and halftime stuff, sprint race, or cutting up on the highway? A faster hip hop song, drifting? Phonk, police chase? Metal. It'd be tough to blend it all and likely take up too much of a modern games development time but it would be fantastic still. As, I do tend to like the modern OSTs in these racing games, I just want a bit more variety too.
Forza Horizon 5's radio stations have a mix of music that makes me physically sick while playing it, no joke. Many of the music included in the game feels so off while driving.
Dude I swear a room full of robots made the creative(or lack there of) decisions for FH5. Seriously none of the team must have ever been to a rally or festival, it gets wild. FH5 feels bland, where FH1 felt close to a real event. Plus the progression was far better in FH1-2, FH5 start with a S2 class wheelspin and no class limited races. Horizon deserves a better team.
NFS Unbound and Heat definetly deserves a better soundtrack. I still find it weird that they never catch on into this, im sure everyone would be fine even if they took the big hits from the blackbox games. Infact im sure it with even appeal or grab the attention of older fans when they realize songs they love are in the new ons. esp with the rise of the videos of NFS Unbound but with older nfs songs became trending, why not give it a shot. Take those songs in underground, most wanted, carbon, and pro street and just have a banger soundtrack.
Much as its ideal, there appears to be a problem with licensing music that are pretty old (and renewing licenses for something they already did, especially). Notice how in most games (and not just racing ones) they almost always have no tracks from 10, or hell, even 5 years ago. They very well could find good, new music too. It's everywhere, I just wonder why they don't do it. Some old bands are still alive & kicking. For example, I'd die to have Alice In Chains' 'Breath On A Window' as a racing soundtrack from the rock genre, among many others.
That's just nostalgia bait. Imagine if MW relied on hot pursuit 2's ost for bangers, that undermines most wanted's vibe. Even though you may not like Unbound's OST, you can't deny it's absolutely it's own unique vibe.
@@hawken796 Yeah but it's still something one could still recreate with better tracks. Did that myself with Spotify by keeping some of the tracks I actually liked (Cryptic Speech, Forever Be Steppin, Slayer, and a few more) as well as those that just fit the game, and also replaced whatever I thought was an ill-fit with similar but better tracks + more stuff I thought was missing like DnB (Makoto tracks could have been perfect if we're following the international artist thing) or even some 90s Chicago house (also very surprised how a Chicago-themed game did not have a single Chief Keef track). I also split everything based on where I'd ideally want to hear them (so different playlists for garage, free roam, and events, with some tracks overlapping in one or more categories).
Back when we were in the midst of the covid lockdowns, me and a bunch of friends played through NFS Heat, fully co-op as much as possible, all of us on PS4, got the platinum trophy. At one point the song Tu Manuera - INNA became an actual meme where we'd mock the intro by screaming ASI DELE DELEEEEEE as loud as we could into the microphone because I shit you not after nearly every daytime race that song would start playing.
on the subject of OST's Run the Jewels has been the only band added to recent games (both heat and Saints Row: Total seppuku have one song iirc) that had the energy you'd be looking for in a high octane situation... i agree that high energy music is needed for street racing games, however there's punk, pop, synthwave, and rnb songs that are also high energy. the big band stuff isnt necessarily the best either. Celldweller was basically unknown to the masses before most wanted, and he went pretty much back to anon status since. that's why they added at least two of his titles to the OST... cheap title rights was a thing in U2 too. half the titles were by bands that were starting to get traction and indies. Once upon a time, we had alphex twin, big names from pre skrillex dubstep, jungle, DnB... i'd rock some Brockhampton, Isidor, Electric Callboy, Amyl and the Sniffers, the Slaves, Sturgill Simpson, Tagada Jones, carpenter brut, santigold, metric or deadlife... And i would love some freaky internet tunes like Sewerslvt, Utsu-P, Igorrr or The Avalanches to see streamers freak out lmao. some sudden grindcore/audio gore like passenger of shit thrown in the mix. But half the titles wouldnt pass the PEGI 3+ these games all want to get.
I have Most Wanted to thank for introducing a young and dumb me into the wonderful music, that I still listen to this very day. If it wasn't for that game and it's soundtrack, my life would be sad, lacking and just simply suck. ...okay, it kinda still do suck, but nowhere near as much if I didn't played it.
Punto is one of my favorite cars in MW, much better than golf. Most Wanted is my favorite game, and the musics are a big part of what makes it my favorite game. MW is what turned me into a rock fan
Dude, I've been getting back into Burnout 3 Takedown again on the good ol Ps2 and man that game is a vibe. The Ps2 may lack power, but it's an absolute beast in quality games!
NFS underground series, most wanted, Hot pursuit, pro Street, midnight club LA remix, midnight club 3 DUB edition, Burnout revenge, NFS Undercover, Flatout Head on, LA RUSH, Motorstorm, Gran Tourismo 4, all amazing racing games with incredible soundtrack that isn't just for the trends, back then the soundtrack was creating atmosphere in the game and was not just in the background.
Well nfs payback, Forza horizon 4, project cars, Gran Turismo, Burnout, etc. Comes to mind when talking about a good selection of different genres of music.
To be fair, and to play a little bit of devil’s advocate, there are some absolute bangers in Heat and Unbound, but he’s right about wanting to turn off the in-game music. I got so tired of hearing MASA MASA MASA MASA in Unbound that I just took all the songs I liked from Unbound and shoved them into a Spotify playlist to listen to while playing the game.

I think a major factor would be that you can feel that older racing games were tested with their OSTs, and OSTs weren't used sparingly (Black List demos and intros come to mind)
And at the same time Unbound's OST just doesn't fit the fast paced racing of the game.
NFSMW shaping my entire personality right there
Same bro same
GTA and NFS games reshaped my music taste and I'm doing that ever since.
@@heavenlanes5598 i personally always found music annoyng in GTA because of It being the car's radio, otherwise the soundtracks are always great.
@@Ferrari255GTO I like GTA's soundtrack being played on car radios, probably since you can cruise around to the best sounding tunes.
Either it's a parody or that's the cringe of the year I see.
That thumbnail is gorgeous
I could remind of Stories with unhappy endings of Midnight Club 3
your editing and personality are amazing, great video
I think EA was just basing their soundtracks around 2 things:
Which genre of songs are popular this year?
And
What is the theme of the game?
In other words EA the whole time was like: “How do you do, fellow kids.”
In some sort of way, yes.
"Gotta know the music trends that the kids would love!" -EA probably
Unfortunately, most who bought it still hated it because either, a few of them knew the song to even love it or it was played so much on a specific area (maybe radio) that they can't fathom liking it on the game.
EDM is not a genre, it's a term to the generic electronic music on the radio that mostly sounds the same shit.
i agree with your complaint about the soundtrack.some songs are fine and fit with the game but god damn they repeat 1000 times over and sometimes just make you want to jump off a cliff
You just can't forget the bullet for my valentine guitar solo, it's PERFECT
BROOOO that ss4 Gogeta theme caught me off guard af I haven't heard it in so long
Dirt 2.0 soundtrack in the background goes hard
I appreciate a lot that i guessed correctly how round 3 was gonna start with lol
I played NFS: Most Wanted for the first time at the end of 2021, and I immediately noticed how damn dope the soundtrack was. I still have Shapeshifter by Celldweller on my playlist when I'm out.
Decadence playing while I'm going 300 km/h at heat 5 just hits different
i absolutely love ur channel dude.....totally underrated one....
I think same is true for mainstream music, every song these days is either edm or edm mixed with rock, hip hop whatsoever.
Me: puts my ear to the speaker because I couldn't tell if the game was playing music
Game: *"HEY!"*
*HOW'S THE TRAFFIC OUT THERE*
This is amazing content honestly, I'm sure you'll be to grow your channel exponentially overtime :)
As for NFS, I do miss the hard-hitting soundtrack that adapts to your situation (like in NFS Most Wanted), it's crazy to me that they got rid of the idea for the games since.
Most Wanted truly is a product of its time, but also ahead of it in a certain way.
I never found myself turning a soundtrack off until Heat
Need for speed most wanted, carbon, collin mcrae dirt 2, burnout 3, gta sa and 4, pes 2006-2013 were the games I used to play in my childhood, and I listen to their soundtrack to this day.
And of course, minecraft and undertale, but these are a diferent kind of soundtracks hehe
Prostreet is and always will be one of my favorite racing games and probably the defining title of that series for me, and the soundtrack is a big reason why on top of it being a really good game, lol
I am happy that i hear p5 music in the background. Great choice
P5 music is just crazy good. Couldn't resist using it 😅
nu metal,metalcore.poppunk,raprock,hiprock,metal rap
the real of highspeed soul concept.
I DID enjoy NFS Heat's chill soundtrack in the garage, I think it sets a nice mood while you're building your car and it gives you a break from the usually awful music selection of that game.
Tbh garage soundtracklers were best in nfs heat
I stopped playing just to listen to that damn thing. The rhythm is great.
SACRIFICE EVERYTHING YOU KNOW
YOU LOVE
YOU MISS THE THINGS YOU HATED LONG AGO
For real this song was the copium that carried me through high school.
ROCK + METAL Supermacy
we need that music that gives you that adrenaline rush that pushes you to go faster and faster not ambient music.
That's how you make mistakes and miss your breaking point, or turn in too late, or get on throttle too soon and spin out. You want to be relaxed to drive fast and with fewer mistakes.
@@christiantaylor1495 Wrong
So Just eurobeat?
Rivals' soundtrack: *Absolutely*
I can confirm that this is not just you being biased due to nostalgia! The earliest nfs game I ever played was no limits on my iPad, cause I never had a console at the time :( but in nfs heat, I can’t go a couple minutes with the music turned on, but whenever I hear music from the old titles I never played, I can’t help but think “what happened” 😂
I absolutely love the thumbnail
It took me an all nighter to finish that one, but the end result was worth it I think 😅
Surprisingly good take, funny as all get out. Channel deserves more subs.
The old times when ı come back from school and play nfsmw on my pc
Fun fact, i played NFS Heat with music on mute and a mw 2005 spotify playlist in the background
They still do, (most of them) it's just how you see them or play them
this is why i put rocksongs on the background
Wow your videos are good for such a small channel, good stuff
Thanks you sir!
Current racing games are differently suffering from too few high octane tracks and tho I do also believe it’s important to have some more chill tracks in between there is currently just too many and they are often so boring that you just skip past them if given the option
I learned my lesson not to drink tea while watching your videos, the Zeus part made me clean my table. Keep up the good work, man.
Kiitos youtubelle suosituksesta!
Playing FlatOut 2 rn, it made me listen full discography of Megadeth and Rob Zombie.
I'll never forget the nfs underground 2 lobby with riders on the storm feat snoop dog.
Love persona ost btw
Forza Horizon 5's radio stations have a mix of music that makes me physically sick while playing it, no joke. Many of the music included in the game feels so off while driving.
that's why I put it on classical music radio. hehe
"Heat" has 1 OK song ... But as you say... It plays every 15 minutes
Unbound actually had a few good tracks there, but just a lot of questionable picks as well.
As a Drum and Bass fan, I love the Guitar Track from Kings Of The Rollers (that garage music from NFS Heat) TBH
But half the titles wouldnt pass the PEGI 3+ these games all want to get.
there is no way this guy only has 560 subs
The nostalgia just hits hard sometimes, but the enjoy factor sometimes stays, and thats a good sing!
1:07 i think this is better and when you leaving from garage... you got even louder and the best drop over there
the old game got drips
Punto is one of my favorite cars in MW, much better than golf. Most Wanted is my favorite game, and the musics are a big part of what makes it my favorite game. MW is what turned me into a rock fan
This is sports games in general. Skating games and mx bike games, as well as wrestling+ mma has the same problem
Out the mud, that Toro Moi one and the garage music is literally all of the decent tracks in Heat
I can relate to the first warning in the video
Flatout 2. If you haven’t heard the soundtrack then I don’t know what to tell you. Probably the best ost ever created.
NFS Prostreet Soundtrack is a banger
This is why I listen to the Postal Redux OST and the Postal 2 OST while playing anything combat or racing related.
3:55 Ah yes world renowned musician Niilo22. Hyvä video!
Well nfs payback, Forza horizon 4, project cars, Gran Turismo, Burnout, etc. Comes to mind when talking about a good selection of different genres of music.
6:12 "Hey there, pimp"
i shall watch your career with great interest.
3:54 demon core, literal "death metal"
I think Forza Motorsport 7 has the best modern racing game soundtrack; It fits so fuckin well
Burnout paradise is the last racing game imo where everything goes together, the game is a total vibe I still play it today
YOU DESERVE MORE SUBSZ
Thank you sir!
I recommend the “Best of Need for Speed” Spotify playlist by Juggernaut Jett
Cool to see a lot of other people going back to listen to nfs OSTs on RUclips , tons of bangers there
It's not even about music type for me, it's wanting to listen to some bangin' tunes. Heat doesn't have that.
