Great video. Many thanks. Anecdotally, I was told by an Australian discus importer that wilds tend to be less fussy when it comes to food compared to hybrids.
Hello my friend!!! Of course, it depends on the fish and how they are prepared to accept commercial food. I've had hybrids and wild ones and fortunately I've never had any problems with food (unless I was sick). But in my opinion it's illogical, since hybrids are trained from fry to accept commercial food. Thank you very much for your comment and testimony. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Have always had Variations of Solid Turquoise. Recently I saw some wilds in a store in Thailand and they blew me away. It might be my imagination but the original blue markings on the Wilds are more brighter than the domesticated versions. It could be the contrast on the brown bodies. But what ever it was they blew me away as they were in a community tank with giant hatchet fish and a bunch of driftwood and plants. I might go the wild route but boy are they expensive!
Hello my friend!!! 🤜🏻🤛🏻 It's true, wild Discus have superb colours. Although they seem more blurred than the "hybrids", if you look closely you can see that the colours are stronger. And as you say, the blues are the colours that stand out the most, looking like they have neon lights. The values of the wild ones are higher, yes. But we have to realise that the whole process of collecting them from the wild and "taming" them is something that has to be paid for. The "hybrid" versions are born on the breeder's premises, there aren't so many stages before they reach our aquariums, so although they're still expensive, they're cheaper than the wild ones.
No doubt about it, my friend!!! Hybrids are already adapted to the conditions they will have in our aquariums at home and for a beginner, this is essential.
Are they really hybrids? I think they are just mutants created by people. Hybrid means a cross between two species not subspecies of the same species. Even wolves and dogs are still the same species. But these days even some dogs are called hybrids. For example a cross between American Bulldog Johnson and Scott variation is called a "hybrid" 😵💫
Hello my friend!!! Great question! Technically, a “hybrid” is a cross between different species. With Discus, the term is commonly used in aquaristics to describe crosses between subspecies or variations. It’s a practical and widely accepted term in the hobby. Plus, for video content, it’s about being catchy and helping viewers easily understand the topic. Strictly speaking, these are more like “selective breeds” than true hybrids. Thanks for bringing this up! 🤜🏻🤛🏻

Hello my friend!
I'll tell you a secret... me too. 😅🤜🏻🤛🏻
Hybrids are the best sustainable choice to start with ...
No doubt about it, my friend!!!

This is more of selective breeding than hybrids.
