Ummmmm many of us didn't know you were selling on whatnot or you would have had more people watching and buying 😀 you will get more as it goes. And YES moving items fast is perfect for me too - drives me nuts when they sit too long inbetween or on an item. I am catching up on your videos bit will go on to whatnot and follow you there too so I know when you have shows 😀
I have watched various techniques for WhatNot selling. There are specialized sellers that sell only one type of thing, like video games or clothes or records, and they typically develop a following on WhatNot itself. Their specialization makes it easy for them to connect with their audience, which is there for information and entertainment as well as buying. But if you are a general seller, you need some other way to attract customers. The social media sellers typically have some sort of RUclips video - a storage unit clean-out, a pallet unboxing, anything that will attract viewers. During the video they say OK, you see all these items, well you can buy them at auction starting at only $1 next Tuesday or whatever. The time between the video and the auction is typically 2-5 days. For mixed auctions like this, it is important to list the items in advance and allow pre-bidding. Fans of the channel who won't be around for the auction can bid in advance, and the items actually start live at a good price. For you, John, I would work off the videos with that have the largest audience. For example, in a warehouse sale video, you could say that you're going to auction off this shelf of special buy items that didn't sell. Or you could do all eBay inventory that is older than one year - it's all got to go. The implication that bargains will be abundant will cause a large number of people to show up and bid.
I have noticed when I did a show that was in a specific area - like doll minatures or jewelry or glass - then it did better then when I did an estate/garage sale type area. I am at the point in the video where you are trying your "maybe" last whatnot - wish I would have seen this sooner. Hope you do another 😀
I was in Wisconsin at Madison after I took my grandson to look at a collage looked to see if I could find your Wearhouse no luck came up from Tennessee. Thank you for your time.
I know that this won’t work for many reasons but the greatest stream ever would be you rolling up to a storage unit you just bought opening it up for the first time, and selling things straight from there.
Items have been added to ebay and been sold before he has completely emptied the storage unit sometimes. There would need to be a bit of sorting if he wanted to sell direct from the storage unit - but it might be interesting. The Storage Unit provider might have concerns however .
I think this could work for a certain type of unit (one that looks like all household goods or something), but those aren't usually the ones that he looks for, iirc. The biggest problem I can see is that, while those of us who are fans on YT would understand if he picked up and item and decided to keep it for ebay, people who don't know him and are only on WhatNot might not like that. Not that everyone has to like what he does, of course, but the point of WhatNot is to bring in new buyers. There also might be confidentiality problems if the camera accidentally shows the previous owners address on some some paperwork (not sure how that works in the storage unit business). Probably would be issues accidentally showing illegal substances or other items of a "things that will get you banned on many platforms" nature.

I have missed way too much - just hearing you are headed to California- I will have to catch up 😊 As for Whatnot it takes awhile to get a following, but also I see a lot of people that are okay with only getting $1 or low costs on a bunch of items - but you would have to get things really cheap for that to work. You made a lot more then I did on my shows - some shows I didn't even make any and actually had to pay some for the giveaways to be sent out - so you are doing better then most 😀
I'm really concerned about you selling on Whatnot it's setup is for more of niche selling. But, it is a live selling platform but you might have to start your starting price a little higher. Oh, loved that you did a shout out to my home state North Dakota. Lol Noticed it was Vikings items. It figures most people are either Vikings or Packers fans. Wish you the best of luck on Whatnot.
Yes, I tried Whatnot for 6 months with regular sales and participated in a couple of events. The events are definitely worth it if you can find a train. I found the same thing you are finding...you get more of a wholesale price than retail. And so really it only works for things that you have paid pennies that are desirable by a wide audience. But if you have to photo and list...then better to list on eBay IMO. One way to do it if selling clothes is to have the buyers name on a poly mailer and add to the bag as you go...but it would be best to have someone else doing that for you if you want to move quickly. Basically your helper is bagging for shipping as you go. I burnt out with the amount of shipping for the relatively small per order dollars when selling really good quality inventory I could have sold elsewhere for a lot more. I decided my time was better spent on other selling platforms. I am still open to it (or other live selling options) if I say found a big lot of something desirable that's easy to ship and people want multiples of and I want to blow it out quickly. But it would have to be something with a large margin and big draw...the holy grail of inventory LOL! Knowing what you sell, I wonder if non-perishable food would work? Unique to USA snacks? Or a Christmas focused sale with stocking stuffers, xmas snacks/decorations and xmas pajamas for the whole family?
I like rapid fire as both a buyer and seller. Keeps people engaged for sure. Plus if there is no interest, you can move on. Don’t start at a $1. Minimum $2. I always find it interesting what sells high vs low.
Did I see that right??? Whatnot uses Priority Shipping??? If so, why in the world have they not gone to Ground Advantage (with very few exceptions) like the rest of the reseller world?
As a eBayer and Whatnot seller, I highly suggest adding marketing to shipped orders. Get new youtube viewers and people to go back and follow your whatnot after receiving items. KEEP GRINDING- Whatnot is about building a following. BTW- start bids at the price your happy with minus fees. As well as sudden death makes the show quick
Test the water with a fire sale on youtube watch how a few others manage theirs (you will need help and a mod for comments) do a set up video as you pull items for the sale a few days in advance so viewers know whats coming. The biggest issue becomes how you want to do invoicing and payments but id imagine square if thatsbwhat you use for warehouse sales. What not id stick to "themed sales" easier to advertise. Id also make up mystery boxes maybe lightly themed as BIN items....
John just an idea why not buy a cheap storage locker and box everything up then your title could be storage locker unsorted and just open the first box and sell what you can from that box then move onto the next box etc as i said just an idea
Watching you search through that whole place for an item give me stress! I only have one Ebay room, and I still lose items! And I did adapt your system of numbered boxes. But my boxes are smaller, so bigger items just get dumped on the shelves.
I think you'll need to play with time of day. Probably evening after people are off work. Or early in the am before work. Then make a schedule and stick with it. remind everyone on your regular videos.
If Whatnot doesn't pan out how you hope, perhaps consider making it more like a monthly hangout where you sell stuff directly to your viewers, it could be fun and a little profitable. "Come hang out with me to chat and buy some random cool stuff". I bet you could come up with a lot of creative things doing that.
When you do your WhatNot sales, do you promote your RUclips channel? Maybe getting more viewers would help make the sale more profitable for you overall.
