Julie's home cooking plus some of your Pepper Jack cheese for a balanced win. As for the gas pipe: I feel the iron pipe is safer but wow that flex pipe is sure easy to work with. Nice job. 👏🏾
Did you do a BTU calculation on all those runs? You might need to run 2psi in all those lines and run PRVs at each appliance. Make sure you don't require bonded fittings...
Not aware of any gas or building code that allows an appliance gas shutoff valve to be covered by drywall (since they must be easily accessible) as Martin stated would be done at stove location. Also, most, if not all, codes do not allow gas joints to be inaccessible or hidden behind drywall, due to possibility of leaks not being easily identifiable. Gas piping options typically include black iron, corrugated SS and Type-L copper pipe with brazing. Finally, ‘hot water heater’ refers to appliances like booster heaters, where water is heated above standard water heater temperature ranges.
Marty, you're going to have to build a box around the gas valves you mounted inside of your studs so the turn on-turn off handles can be accessed to meet code. You might have enough clearance if you turn the valves so that the shut-offs come out past your sheetrock, hopefully making it easier. Good luck!
I genuinely learned something new from watching this video today! I have never messed with those gas lines before. Seeing how they go together was fun to learn! Edit: Great job with the "up-close" filming!! Very risky on old rickety 1 & 2.
Ok, great job on CSS gas line, (corrugated stainless steel) , is the way to go. I hope I am wrong, but it looked to me that you drilled a hole through a floor Truss. That would be a no no! Engineered wood , especially Truss rule.#1, never cut a Truss, rule 2, if you need to cut Truss, see rule one.! Love your channel, followed from start on this house. You are learning the way I had to learn.
Black pipe for sure. My home was all black pipe until I added a 60,000 BTU natural gas furnace in the garage. I had a plumber hook it up. He used flexible gas line 10 minutes after he left I had a leak. He came back repaired it but I will always remember this forever. If flex was throughout my home I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.
I ran several flexible gas lines at my house, they were yellow, NOT corrugated, and I think much easier to work with then the black iron or the corrugated variety. it is smooth alluminum interior with a yellow pvc coating, and compression fittings. it worked really well.
Mr. Johnson, I had a rickety old ladder just like yours. It broke while I was standing on it trying to paint a ceiling and I fell to the floor. I was knocked unconscious and injured my hand because I landed on it. I had to have surgery on my hand and missed work for a week with a concussion and my hand injuries. I bought a "Little Giant Ladder" and now work in confidence. Get rid of those old rickety ladders and work up high with safety and confidence. I enjoy your show. Good luck.
I am an Hvac professional and work with that all the time. You are lucky you didn’t slice your hands. The jagged stainless ends are as sharp as a razor blade. Glove up. I Enjoy the vids
That's A Great Video & No Question I Like The Flex Line MUCH Better, Amazing as it Would Seem I'm 74 Now & Had Never Used it Before, But We're Doing A Renovation On A Really Nice 102 Year Old House & Changing A Few Things , & It's Going From OK, ALLRIGHT, TO GREAT/ MAYBE FANTASTIC ,So Yes You Can Teach A OLD DOG New Tricks, & Booth Meals Looked Pretty Good, & Thanks For The EXCELLENT Video & Really Really Great Explanation of How Your Doing What & Why, & We Will Watch All of Your Videos ,You Two Rock ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Our youngest son sent us you video. Can't wait for more.
I love Julie's lunch 🥗 yours isn't bad but would give me an upset gut! Brave you all are installing gas line, amazing feeling though when you know "You can do this"!
I would start at one end and work out ( comes into the house/garage. I think you need thr shutoff on the out side of the kitchen wall,so when you need to shut it off or on you dont have to open the wall.
Could take a spray bottle filled with dish liquid n water n spray each place where you connected it at to see if you have a leak time consuming but will find your leak if you have one
Good morning to both of you, hope the day is filled with fun and laughter. Black flex tubing vs black pipe. This is like the discussion between PEX tubing vs solid pipe for water. There are merits and problems for each type. To each their own. I would use black pipe. I do not remember if there was a discussion between hot water tank and on demand hot water. Please refresh my poor memory.
If you do have a leak, it may be at the 3 direction manifold, it looked like the pipe might not have been straight into the manifold, I know that is a big deal for other types of fittings, not sure if it was just the angle of the camera too.
I must admit u 2 are doing so well what with the gas and everything else place is going to look lovey when all finished carry on with the good work toni from England.
Ok, at 12:15 I noticed that at the apex of the truss triangle where the gas pipe runs is one of the joining plates for the truss. That needs to be addressed as it could potentially rub against the pipe and abrade the pipe over time. Simply put a 2x of some sort behind the truss plate and make sure the edge is below the truss plate and the gas tube can't rub against it.
I just purchased the exact gas pipe (3/4-inch). My building department requires bonding (grounding) the pipe. I also purchased the little tool for taking off the plastic shield (you used your knife). The manufacturer requires a licensed installer but I am a DIY and I will install it myself. I prefer it to black iron pipe but I will also have short pieces of black iron pipe near the loads, same as yours. Mine goes from outside propane tanks 15 feet away, inside a 2-inch electric gray conduit underground to side of my tiny house, to feed my Rinnai tankless. PS. a little change in pressure is normal during testing. The working pressure in the line will be about 1/2 psi, so testing at 10 psi is enough.
The flex gas line is fine and a lost easier and faster to run than black pipe. You need to put access boxes around your shut off valves. (You'll regret it if you don't.)
I've got that exact 'Old Rickety' ladder in exactly the same condition. Same manufacturer, rickety, woobly and the shelf broke off leaving the shelf arms in the same condition! I threw it on the burn pile eventually.
I have never used the newer stuff, neither for gas nor pex for water. I have used both black pipe for gas and copper for water. Old school. I know the newer stuff is cheaper where the older stuff is more expensive.
Flexible is what I have and it works great, you want to be able to move the stove out so you can clean in there. We have the flexible metal hose and we have never had a problem with it.
I have watched far to much of your content today. Started with your new solar controller that replaced your Aims. Now I’ve binged watched about 8 episodes. Love your content! How awesome is this whole project of your off grid cabin and small homestead
What's the use of having the shutoff valve if it's going to buried in the wall? Could you have built an inset box that the valve sat inside and still given you the ability to shut off the gas at the location versus having shut off the valve at the source? Love watching your progress. Cheers.
Re: "Old rickety". I had one like that and I cured mine by tightening the nuts on the crossbars that should be just below each step. It worked on mine, I'm hoping it will tighten yours.
I'm definitely going to have to go with Jules on this I would definitely prefer the teriyaki if I had jalapenos and olives go ahead and Medevac me out hahaha you guys are fantastic
Rigid pipe is best for certain applications. Flex line is best for other applications. In between floors like your doing flex is fine. In an open attic where service people might be be crawling around rigid gives an additional measure of safety. The telephone guy or the tv guys can lay on the rigid pipe but not the flex.
I'm usually skeptical of any type of compression type fittings. Had many bad experiences with water leaks using compression fittings. I've always used the black iron pipe with gas lines.
I live on the Isle of Wight off the south coast of the UK and it's really interesting seeing how different the installation of both the gas and electrics are in the USA.
If you going to put that pipe on there like that need to have it in a box where the shut-off is accessible or bring the shut-off out of the wall a box for a washer would be perfect
Someone must be slacking on her job for Safety!!! I thought it's funny that you took Sally out of the box after it was crazy w/o safety glasses 👓 for you both!! I would say that I will start a gofundme for a ladder if it will help!
Oh, boy! The ladders, the lack of eye protection, they way you straddled and sat on the top of the ladder, and I'm sure there's more that Safety Sally would scold you about if she could see through that box! And there's you son, wearing hearing protection while sawing, but no eye protection! Oh boy, I hope none of you get hurt! Really, I wish you the best of luck! You're doing what I only wish I could do!
Thanks for another informative video! I didn't know you could use a flexible gas pipe, thought it had to be copper. I don't like either of those meals lol. Today I would be eating with Seth and learning to change that Macbook battery, seems like a good skill to have! I didn't know it's possible to change the Macbook battery, I thought Apple glues it in place so you can't remove it. Let us know in the next video if he was successful 👋
The flex pipe is great to run it's also a lot faster but because it's corrugated it does cut down on your volume of flow so I do prefer straight black pipe but depending on your application natural gas is a lot lower of a PSI so therefore black pipe is better if you are using propane you have a higher PSI and can get away with using the flex pipe for longer runs

Make sure you don't require bonded fittings...
You going to have inspection in this building?
Safety Sally (and myself) says always wear your safety glasses...helpers too!
Hello I am telling Safety Sally that neither one of you were wearing your safety glasses OH MY goodness!!! Great Job Marty

Hardened and true black iron is the best way to go.
Marty, you're going to have to build a box around the gas valves you mounted inside of your studs so the turn on-turn off handles can be accessed to meet code. You might have enough clearance if you turn the valves so that the shut-offs come out past your sheetrock, hopefully making it easier. Good luck!
My answer to whom I'd be eating with is ... YES!!! Julie's dish first as an appetizer and Marty's dish as a main course. Both look delish.
You can always go to every fitting and use soapy water to check for leaks too think it recommended to do it anyways.
I genuinely learned something new from watching this video today! I have never messed with those gas lines before. Seeing how they go together was fun to learn! Edit: Great job with the "up-close" filming!! Very risky on old rickety 1 & 2.

@Richard Charles
You take the chances I won’t. In 35 years of building homes I never had a black pipe leak.
Fyi u need to clean the drier vent several times a yr more with long length keep that in mind should be shortest run possible
Yes, and I might remind you what might happen if you let that dryer pipe get clogged. FIRE! You don't want that!
@Seth - Way to go, kid! Fixing your own laptop instead of buying a new one. Love that maximum effort. Very smart young man.

Marty, hot water heater? Why would hot water need hearing? 😂😂😉
In Australia there is one good choice...copper tube with silver soldered joints.
I am an Hvac professional and work with that all the time. You are lucky you didn’t slice your hands. The jagged stainless ends are as sharp as a razor blade. Glove up. I Enjoy the vids
Flex for sure. seems easier than black pipe. Your lunch looked more Keto friendly. Nice job great teamwork.

I would use Sch. 40 Black Steel Pipe.
I love Julie's lunch 🥗 yours isn't bad but would give me an upset gut!

If you put a cross brace from more leg to the other on your ladder it'll stabilize it
I was about to make the same suggestion but they now have new ladders.
Soaping each connection is always wise with gas
Never used the flex stuff, so I go with what I know. Black iron with pipe dope and fittings.
Could take a spray bottle filled with dish liquid n water n spray each place where you connected it at to see if you have a leak time consuming but will find your leak if you have one
Good morning Martin and Julie. Nice to see things looking up.
Easy answer. Flexible no question
4:34 I think you mean "water heater", because if it was already hot water you wouldn't need to heat it!
Good morning to both of you, hope the day is filled with fun and laughter. Black flex tubing vs black pipe. This is like the discussion between PEX tubing vs solid pipe for water. Julie's food is a meal...Martin's is just a snack.

Wow it's Kool seeing Safety Sally back on the job 😂😂
YOU ARE A HERO.......BLESS YOU. I AM THAMIR FROM IRAQ.
Your food Martin! the hotter the better!

Martin’s lunch looks great!
I didn't know flexible gas line is an option! This opens a whole new world of projects for me. Thank you :)
You can spray all the joints with soapy water to see if it bubbles...this will show a leak.
You should have used Megapress G for the gas lines.. black iron pipe install with no threading. By far and away the best system for gas installation
flex line. without a doubt.
You made that look very easy I'll have to give it a try y'all have a good day
Flexible is what I have and it works great, you want to be able to move the stove out so you can clean in there. We have the flexible metal hose and we have never had a problem with it.
Martin yuo and juli doing good job congratulation
We use copper pipe for internal gas in the UK.
I like what Martin eats.
gotta go with Martin with the addition of Ritz crackers... have tha same at least once a week. Yummmmm

+1 I agree. It will tighten if up significantly - 5 min job max. Safety Sally Approved !
Get a spray bottle with water and add soap and spray your connections to check gor leaks...
Good morning Martin and Julie. Nice to see things looking up. Weekend greetings from Jamaica 🇯🇲🇯🇲
I'm definitely going to have to go with Jules on this I would definitely prefer the teriyaki if I had jalapenos and olives go ahead and Medevac me out hahaha you guys are fantastic
I’m afraid I have to go with Martin Started watering!! Your place is coming along beginning to look like home!
Rigid pipe is best for certain applications. Flex line is best for other applications. In between floors like your doing flex is fine. Poor Sally she was in time out for a long time, Lol
I would have to say I pick Julie's bowl . Keep up good work;)
It seems there are advantages to using the flex gas pipe on installation, but I am always skeptical of multiple parts for a seal especially with gas.
I'm usually skeptical of any type of compression type fittings. Had many bad experiences with water leaks using compression fittings. I've always used the black iron pipe with gas lines.
Hebat,pak Martin serba bisa ❤️🇮🇩
Her food by far !
Flex is the best
Flex looking good so far. Have a blessed day
flex every time.
i have that same exact ladder....It helps with your core workout lol
Wow, drilling holes without eye protection on top of a ladder you called old rickety, you are a great example of what not to do.
I use black iron mostly. Flex is good but very expensive.
I live on the Isle of Wight off the south coast of the UK and it's really interesting seeing how different the installation of both the gas and electrics are in the USA.
Great bumper music !!!
I never number one with thumbs up. Hope you have many many more. Thanks for taking me a long it's been fun watching your progress.
Very helpful, thanks for making this.
Her food!
If you going to put that pipe on there like that need to have it in a box where the shut-off is accessible or bring the shut-off out of the wall a box for a washer would be perfect
I love your video and great working partner .
We only use copper pipelines in 🇬🇧 but seen this could be easier no cutting joints soldering
You lost me with the garlic!! But almost made up for it with the peppers.... love those!! But.....eeeeeeehh! the buzzer goes off on the garlic!
Martha’s food is good
I love love new technology , but......I think I would trust the old black iron pipe more.
Someone must be slacking on her job for Safety!!! I thought it's funny that you took Sally out of the box after it was crazy w/o safety glasses 👓 for you both!! I would say that I will start a gofundme for a ladder if it will help!
Definitely replace that ladder or fix it. Safety Sally will be shoving trouble tickets into your hands until you do.
Oh, boy! I like Her food 🍲
flexible gas line ??? i never heard of such a thing. the things I learn on this channel . :-)
Eat with Julie her food looks healthier GOD BLESS
I prefer copper with compression glands. But that is for Australia. Different requiremets & standards for different countries.
Jule i love hers
Perhaps test gas leaks with a vacuum gauge?
Both y'all's food looks delicious !!! LOL
Cliffhanger!!!!
Thanks for another informative video! I didn't know you could use a flexible gas pipe, thought it had to be copper. I don't like either of those meals lol. 9:45 defenetly pipes with threads

the flex pipe is a cool and easy way to do it, but i would prefer using black pipe. the bends you made would worry me.
You hid Safety Sally so she wouldn't see that wood ladder. It's time to retire that ladder. I like the flex gas piping choice.
Great video. Excellent quality!
