I love that your book is not about destroying your family. Your book tells us that your parents raised a young lady that loves The Lord, follows the word by respecting/honoring them. Your honesty is refreshing. I pray your family & friends will embrace your book and see the truth in the Bible. God Bless you!

They allegedly knew the bible well before adopting the harmful teachings of Bill Gothard. Bill Gothard didn't introduce them to God so ignorance isn't an excuse. Sadly they have a stark and lifelong reminder of the damage it probably caused. A convicted pedophile who can never again be unsupervised around minors, particularly his own family. He will be 70 before that can happen. Heartbreaking for his children and extended family. Jinger gives a lot of grace.

Really appreciate that Jeremy came into her life & lovingly & patiently showed her the difference between what she’d been taught all her life vs. what precisely the Bible teaches from an Awesome Loving 🥰 Lord Jesus Christ Almighty God! Love hearing them working well together & truly understanding the correct understanding(s) about the absolute L❤️VE that Jesus Christ in His Word > The Holy Bible. Really curious; what’s the translation of your Bible that your using? Curious & wanna know. Please someone let me know if you know the answer.

After hearing Jingers scenario about no debt 18 kids in a 2 bedroom house. I am beginning to view her dad in a possible different way. He had to work hard, possible long hours to take care of his big family. We all know that they started out in a shoebox house. And then when TLC got them into the big house he could probably see the light. But as a man who struggled for years, its no wonder that he fell in love with his growing bank account and didn't want to pay his kids, wanted to maintain control over them, keep them in line and on the show. He covered up what Josh did to his sisters in order to keep the show on TV. That was a big ugly mistake on his part. And then you have Michele at home struggling to care for a million kids, homeschooling and keeping the house clean and being joyful every night. Gothard is a true cult leader. He is probably the reason that these two made all the serious mistakes as parents. Not excusing their actions with Josh...just seeing a maybe why. Its amazing they both didnt lose their sanity. As the years went on JB became greedy, Michelle continued to joyfully pop out a kid every year.mind blowing. Gothard should be ran out of town or put in jail for the damage he did to many adults and children. When I was a kid,my religion taught me about heaven and hell. Like Jinger,I was scared to do anything wrong. I knew I would suffer in pain and probably burn and melt in hell!!after becoming older and a little bit wiser I realized that God Is a loving God and doesn't want to see us hurt. I also realized that when I die I'm going to heaven because I have lived in hell ... Arizona ... Temps near 120 degrees in the summer for 65 years!! End of my novel. Please note.. I am not condoning Jim Bob or Michelle for ignoring Josh's sin against his sisters or later years. I am not that forgiving. I hope he goes to hell and burns and melts in hell!!! 😊

I just have to say this, you mentioned that you felt you didn’t really have your own personality before your journey, but I remember watching your family’s show a few times in the beginning, and I said out loud- “That girl is going to change things! The thing that stands out to me about this interview and others that I have seen Jinger do is that she is an eloquent, intelligent woman who is now speaking for herself rather than just sitting there meekly. The transformation and blossoming is stunning . Hats off to Jeremy for the support and for allowing Jinger to become Jinger and step away from the image her poor mother was trying to create. What a great team you make and what lucky little girls you have.

We do not know what really went on in their home. Only the people that was there really knows. We know something’s happened with Josh who definitely has issues. She said she believes her parents brought them up the way they did to protect them and in the beginning meant it for good. Josh is definitely where he belongs. But I do not think their whole family is evil. I do not know them personally, so I have no idea but I do know that I would want a relationship with my parents and siblings as long as there was no abuse coming from them. I also think money got in the eyes of the father, but like I said, I do not know them personally.

I actually commented already. But, I too was physically groomed and hurt by a counselor/ Pastor. After the death of both of my parents within 18 mos of each other. I went to him to be counseled about my huge loss. But. This counselor was a sick individual. It happened 10 years ago and it has taken me that long to move forward. This counselor lost his license because of 2 other women and myself coming forward. But hes still trying infiltrate several Baptist churches.
I too have thought about writing about my journey. Tho I thought of turning away. God did not give up on me. Jesus held onto me. Jinger, you did awesome...I'm sure so many have been given hope...because of your strength. God bless you.

As someone that has questioned the things I was taught in church as a child throughout my adult life, I totally relate to your story. There are things I was taught that absolutely made no sense at all and once I became an adult and was able to read the Bible and comprehend it from a different perspective than I was taught to, and form a relationship with God on a different level, I lost family along the way. Most people can’t break away from, as I call it, traditions passed down from generation to generation. And they don’t want to hear a different perspective. I’ve come to realize religious beliefs aren’t what forms a relationship with God it’s talking to God , understanding his word and living his word. You are so brave for speaking out and I’m really proud of you❤

When I was a little girl at church I thought-why are these women so unhappy and worn out? didn’t inspire me at all. It breaks my heart. The burden so many of them carry is just too heavy yet they feel bad if they cannot keep up. 😢 Thankfully I married a man who had a healthy view of God and the Bible 😅I read your book and loved it so much! The cheap tiny shabby house with the woman who HAD to have a child every time it was physically possible and homeschool them all WAS Jinger's childhood. It was HER mother, depressed, not coping and probably with chronic anxiety about being what Got-hard (appropriate hyphen) told her she should be. Thank you, Jeremy for saying the words "these women were in a cycle of abuse" Abuse is exactly what it was. Michelle Duggar was an abused wife, her husband was the abuser even if he never laid a hand on her. He abused her spirit, her body, her health, her heart, her womanhood and her autonomy.

@@tammyglauser3831 Call it what you wish, it's my opinion and one I am entitled to. Jim Bob Michelle and some of the kids have publicly admitted they were crammed into a tiny rundown house with not enough room for a bed for each child. They had to queue to use the one toilet and some kids slept on the living room floor or couch (the place where Josh committed some of his crimes) The point I am making is it's one thing for Jeremy to talk about "women of the IBLP" were in a cycle of abuse and not acknowledge that Jinger was a victim of that situation as was her mother. They seem to skip past the fact that if it wasn't for Jim Bob and Michelle the kids wouldn't have been subjected to the "teachings" of Bill Gothard that subsequently caused harm to many of them. They were the only conduit between Gothard and the kids yet they get a pass?

    • @kimmy1963
      @kimmy1963 10 месяцев назад

The women ARE in a cycle of abuse! I just watched "Shiny, Happy People " . The IBLP is HORRIBLE. The women have no voice. The children have no voice. Bill Gothard had NO children yet he told everyone how to discipline their children and how to raise them. Women have to be "Joyfully available " to their husbands. The men are expected to father as many children as possible. The toll multiple pregnancies so close together takes on the women is enormous! Their bodies don't get a chance to recover between babies, the women are overwhelmed by trying to care for all those children, and the man is working multiple jobs to support his family. It's horrible.

Goodness was I surprised when it ended and I was not only still awake, but longing for more…. You two have a love that spills out of the screen! Your love for each other, your families and our Lord is so inspiring! Thanks for sharing. This was much more enjoyable than counting sheep! Numbers 6:24-26

First, I want to say that you, Jinger, look so much more at peace and it shows in that you also look so much more beautiful than you ever have. I also wanted to say that I was involved in a group over 40 years ago that was similar to the IBLP and I can tell you that faith is a lifelong learning process. When I left the group, I knew that God did not favor any one group. Keep learning and growing and never feel bad if your faith and learning takes you places you never dreamed of. It's a fascinating journey to keep learning and learning.

What a wonderful QandA . I loved your book and was so glad you didn’t blame your family for the things that you thought was true teachings. I pray that more of your family’s eyes we’ll be opened up to this fact. We are never to old or to young to know the truth about Jesus.❤❤❤

Amazing to think what you might be living if you hadn't married someone with such discernment to question that teaching. I've heard such wonderful things about your book, and I hope it helps many to come to the Lord that didn't know him before. Your bravery, grace and respect for loved ones is truely heartwarming and inspiring. xo

So happy to see you and Jeremy so happy and grounded in your faith in Jesus. I attended a Basic Youth Conflicts session in my 20s. At the time, the teachings resonated with me and I came home and made some changes in my life. Now I don’t remember much about it and it saddens me that something that could have been so good ended up in the place it did. Bless you both!

Loved the book. At 52 yrs old it was helpful to hear so.eone else's story and journey thru with faith intact. It has helped me understand some of the why's of being raised and told certain things. Always love the interviews and just the dynamics btw you both ❤❤ Have to admit I was also a bit distracted by the bookshelves and what kinds of things you both have read or what to read....pausing video and flipping screen! 😂 God bless you both ❤

I was not in the Gothard circle. I had never heard of him or his
teaching until I started watching 19 Kids and Counting. But as I sit here reading your book I realize this could have been my book in a lot of ways especially the fears and trying to work to please God. I viewed him as a punishing God if I did wrong than a loving God. I relate so much to your story. BUT GOD….. Intervened. He sent me to a wonderful Christian Bible college that taught me the truth of God’s word. The I married a fellow who knew Gods word and through these 2 avenues God helped me to see that… not by works of righteousness which I have done but according to his mercy He saved me. Thank you for your Book. I’m sure it will be a great help to a lot of people. God bless you !

Jinger, I enjoyed your book. It was very informative and tastefully written. 😊 I must admit that some of your story I related with. Mostly the part about being taught that God and Jesus is something to fear, I didn’t even realize that this was my perspective until I heard your words. I am grateful for your candid thoughts and insights. I hope to find a place to learn more about the truth. Thank you and God bless you and your family

Hi. I know this is an older video but I just discovered it. I want to thank you for your book! I was one of the thousands that had preordered it. I was not raised in the environment you were but I was raised in Fundamental Independent Baptist church. We had lots of the same man made rules and fear like wear dresses to the knee, pantyhose, closed toe shoes, no movies, no dancing and so many more. I lived in fear that God was just waiting to zap me for anything I did wrong. I prayed for years (I’m 66 years old) to be strong enough to leave the church and religion I had been in my whole life. We finally found a church that lets us love Jesus and watch God work. It’s so amazing to leave church after each service with a smile on my face. I appreciate your book because I pray it helps so many others that have faith and fear mixed up and I hope they discover it long before they are my age. ❤❤

I have not been able to read your book yet. I grew up Catholic but as a young adult, I ran away from Jesus. I stopped being Catholic after being in an abusive Catholic marriage. Most of my family has maintained being Catholic. I have been through so much as a child and an adult. More so than many people I know. For about 25 years, I have tried to be a Christian going to a typical church. I am now trying to be Catholic again. I want to be buried in my family's Catholic cemetery. My health has not been great for the last 2 years. Going back to Catholic teachings some I have had a difficult time with fully believing. The bottom line, I have my personal relationship with Jesus. It is too bad when the biblical scripture can be twisted and manipulated. Congratulations on your new book. I love to see you become more of your own self. I hope you help many people with your book. ❤

The Catholic Church is the same roman / Babylonian tradition teaching. Nowhere in scripture does it teach to pray to Mary the queen of heaven .
It's also works based salvation. As well as ALL the Pope's Vow to be a "stand in" for God on earth and then take their seat . I believe it's something the bible speaks against and hope n pray you can understand this misconception they teach.
Just to make it clear they believe God must have a wife or queen or something.

Received your book today I’m already on page 105. Oh my goodness the whole food issue and going to hell if I eat pork or not; amongst many things like attending a church on Sunday and if I’m going to hell or not etc… the fear is real. maybe I wasn’t gothard child growing up but the legalism and the fear from these extreme views it instills in someone is real. And I’m 38 in May and just now trying to disentangle myself. Thankfully I ran across your podcast on cultish I bought your book that very day. Anyways I’m sorry you had those fears but relieved that I’m not alone and it’s almost a normal reaction to the very legalism that is instilled in someone from a young age. Thank you for sharing it real is a blessing from God that He kept us from losing hope and faith in Him. Thank you again for sharing your life’s journey with us. It does help and it is making a difference and I’m sooo thankful you didn’t lose your faith.
