Hey! I’m Icoso, a solo indie game developer with a passion for creating games people like to play! There’s a lot of awesome people out there and I hope you can be the next one that messages me to say hi! I really love knowing what people are working on and seeing updates through gifs, screenshots, development builds, and full releases! Thank you for being a part of my game development journey, and I’ll see you in the next video! :D Игры
Well, if you haven't worked on the game, you can just say it's part of the design and you made "minimal" progress.
Hahah trueee, good thinking 😎
The game is so minimalistic that you can't even do anything! I love it!
You betcha! 😎
The minimalistic menu fits the theme of the game so well!
Thank you so much!! Glad you think so, haha ^^
The only change I'd recommend is making the borders for each button thinner than the icons in the middle. At the moment my eyes aren't drawn to the correct location (the icons) because at a glance it all seems to blur together.
Try squinting or standing really far away so you can't make out the details and then see where your eyes are drawn to.
Other than that it fits quite well.
Honestly, when you're struggling to make progress, making all the things you showed off in this video counts as a ton of progress! So- well done😁
I feel like the main menu doesn't really fit the feeling of the rest of the game just yet, but it'll for sure get there. Looking forward to the next one, keep it up man!
Thank you very much, haha! It's comments like these that are keeping me on track :D
There's a lot of work to do on the menu for sure, so I hope to spice it up a bit within the next few weeks! I agree that it feels a bit empty and so I'll do my best to tie it together with some more features soon! :) :)
Thank you for I Almost Killed My Game - Minima Devlog [6], I may now rest in peace 😌
Thank you for your comment Thank you for I Almost Killed My Game - Minima Devlog [6], I may now rest in peace 😌, very helpful thank you yes
Yay, finally a new Devlog :) But dont stress yourself and take your time.
Great Video!
Thank you very much, haha! I’ll do my best
Losing motivation is something that i belive any gamedev will experience throughout a project at some point or another, and every time it's the absolute worst... You have all my support icoso, stay strong!!
I absolutely agree, and thank you for the nice comment, haha! Much appreciated as always :>
Yes my man! I can't wait to play minima, also nice "juicy succulent buttons" 👌
btw, 2:31 This just cracked me up man XD
Yusss thanku! Always appreciate your support :D
Glad you enjoyed the quality humour lolol 👌👌👌👌👌👌
Why did I actually search if Donkeys lay eggs? My name is really fitting.... Great Develog Icoso! I really enjoyed it.
Hahah :P idk where that term came from to be fair, but glad it sparked your curiosity xD
Glad you enjoyed the video!! ^^
this dude :) you are so put together (in videos) at least for your age. Its a pleasure to watch. keep doing what your doing
Haha, I'm glad you think so! ^^ Thank you for the nice comment :D
Great video! Those menus look sick, nice work :)
Ayyy thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it, my dude 😎😎
Minima will prevail
Always 💪
FINALLY! To think on how many times people may have reminded you... Anyways, it's good to see your back Icoso!
Haha, sorry for the delays! Glad to be back and working on the project :))
Looks pretty freaking fantastic icoso! Menus are pretty important :D
Thaaaanku very much, my dude!
Good to see you are back working on Minima.
Also, twitch streams yay!
Thanku very much! Glad you've been enjoy it :D
Love the minimal feel of the menu. It really suits the game!
Thanku very much!! Always love seeing your feedback :) :)
That honest intro killed me, nice project
Taking Some well deserved breaks is really important, sometimes over working oneself just leads to slow progress. But you've done quite a lot. Any progress is progress.
I completely agree, yeah! I think a lot of devs overlook this struggle and only come across it when it really slaps them in the face :/
Thank you for checking out the video! Always appreciate your great support
the menu and level select screen look epic and minamalistic (well i guess that was what you wanted :D)
Thanku very much, and yus indeed! :P
Icoso is indeed, very cool.
true 😎
yo those portal like level select screens are look so good, I will definetly look into how i could copy that :D
Thanks so much for the nice comment! There are some great tutorials and documentation on the tender texture system :))
"This is an Icoso video. Did you expect it to be good?"
Yes. Yes I did.
And it is.
😎 Much thanks, haha ^^
Great new stuff, worth the wait!
Thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed it :D
Finally the man returned!
Yeeees! :D
Menu looks clean!
Thanku very much! :D
Great video!!
Thank youuu! Glad to hear that you enjoyed it :)
Any progress is progress so you should be proud of yourself, I like the level select screen and how you use the render texture to get moving icons!
I do think the main menu feels a bit bland, can't say why but it may need a bit more juice!
Thank you very much, haha - that's what I keep telling myself ^^
I was thinking of maybe spicing things up with some cursor effects, such as when you click, it goes p o o f or something like that, lolol. I'll see what I can come up with :D
damn looks clean
what if the world select buttons act like a reveal? basically whenever you click on the button, it gets bigger until it takes up the entire screen, and thats the transition into a level. its like if you have ever put your hands infront of your eyes in a telescope shape and slowly made the "size" of the "telescope" bigger, until you cant see your hands.
Oooh that could be a little fun project! I'll definitely keep this idea in the back of my head later on when I get into the polishing stages of the game, but I agree - this would be very cool! I'll have to figure out how to make it smooth tho :p
Great Video! keep it up
Thank you very much! :D
Great video! Can’t wait for the “boring level design” process of Minima!
Edit: its boring for you, fun for us 😄
Haha, glad you were able to clear that up :P I’m looking forward to making them levels tho… I’m sure I’ll eat my words soon hahah
I'm naming my goldfish Azure
ok
haha same
1:55 funy number detected
Hahahaahahhahaaaaahhh funny
Love to see your progress, even when it’s so “minimal” lol
Haha :P Thanku for checking out the vid!
Donkey eggs sounding kinda delicious ngl ngl
:o
good one
:D
Back in business... 👍
Indeed 😎😎
Epic
Yes 😎
In addition to timed runs, would be cool to have the lowest number of jumps to complete a level. Would encourage some interesting routes.
I definitely agree! I'll do my best to add that feature in within the next couple devlogs :D
Just found a gem
:D Cheers!
The game looks really good.
It looks like the game: Almost there: The Platformer
(on steam)
But with better platforming (it looks like it)
Thank you very much! I just checked out that game's page and it certainly has some interesting ideas! I'll be sure to take inspiration from this project down the track when I get into level design :D
Woah that concept was eerily similar to mine great aussie minds think alike i guess
Woah that was really awesome and very cool, aussie minds great like think alike iii guess
Why not in the level select menu, have it after you click play unload all the buttons and then have the level preview zoom in to fill the screen?
Oooh yes, I really like this idea. I'll see if I can animate it as such :)
@@icoso :D
Quick question. I have motivation problems when it comes to working on games/projects, do you have any advice to help fix this?
My biggest bit of advice would be to work on some different aspects of the game! It keeps ya mind fresh 😎
Ok that arrow on the different menu screens is triggering my OCD plz fix and i will pay to get the game when it's done
and the sub button stopped bleeding so that's good
Do you mean it's position on the screen? I've now aligned it correctly with the titles 😅 Sorry about that
😳
@@icoso ya thanks! 😀
I give the video thirteen eggs out of three and a half donkeys
lolol 😎
Can i use a similar menu design for my game
Of course! :D
Game dev takes time, sometimes the most progress you make is after a decent break
Absolutely! Glad I have someone that I can relate to ^^
how about the Background Changes Like in the different world in the menü
you mean męnü?
@@olek0 yes
That would definitely be a great addition, yeah! I can probably randomise it on load or bring up the colour of the last world you played :)
this might take away from the minimalistic style the game is known for but what if u added post processing!
I looove post processing in Unity, and I actually have a little bit in the game already! I've added a slight vignette to darken the edges of the screen (not very visible, oh well, lol), but I might experiment with it a bit more in the future :D :D
@@icoso nice!
It always confuses me how the hardest part of game dev is just motivation and has almost nothing to do with actually making the game, either way I think everyone runs through this phase many, MANY times but with enough effort it always ends up getting done.
make screen res dynamic, i dont want my screen to shrinky dink cause it's bigger than 1080p
I will do my best :P
2:05 lol i thought you where from britland but from aussland
Hey, it's another person that does game development
Love the videos!
Eyyy yes
Thanku! :D
i've just imagined how to spend 10 years thinking on the product design, its terrible :v but real ._.
also: ok time to do zombies :v
Hi, does your channel need sponsorship?
hi!
Hellooo!
@@icoso Hello! Also, I have an idea how to hide small progress on your game, you can say that you "improved the code, and its now more optimized even if you can't see it" lol
Great devlog, but Discord button should be blurple, not purple
*I will not forgive you for this...*
Ah yes, I see…
Will change 😎
@@icoso Great!
E
same
yay! first!
Woooowowowoowowo! :D
Probably too late to comment but my two cents is it is too many steps to play the game. Three clicks to play this game is to many. Have it as "homepage" with options etc and the only other option is play. You're making your simple game too complicated.
You're far too concerned with with your "about" and "thanks" page. Remove them. You're over distracting your game by showing off your UX/UI skills.
Great video!
Cheers! ^^
