      @EllenMF12 Год назад +238

That would be very cool~ better yet, if being villain is in the family (I still remember Zurg in the Cartoon Movie said 'Mama Zurg called me that')
Why not make the family bussiness to be that~? Buzz tried to escape it by joining the good side, but because he failed the mission over and over and the rangers discovered he was part of a villain family and tried to arrest him for breaking the rules and resisting arrest, they tried to arrest him again causing him to escape into the future, while trying to discover what he would do to get the mission completed after it was already failed the moment he went on that 'Cursed' planet and he was a fugitive...
'If I only had a way to go back and stop myself from screwing the mission by not checking that cursed planet!' And then he found an 'abandoned' high tech ship thanks to a message being detected into his ship was receiving a frequency which only he knew the code to decoded it, since he was in the future and his family was already dead or...
Buzz's Mother ended becoming the Ship AI, since in the future, Buzz's family already must have transfered their bodies into robots since if Buzz was stuck into that planet 'for around 60 years' and because he had to escape his arrest, he jumped into the future for more years...
So, she controlled some of the robots to keep a eye on her son, while Old Buzz was trying to get into the past before he went on that planet, but the only thing her son can't do is tell anyone, not even himself what he found on the future...
While the 'Mother Ship' ended making another message to Buzz's father when he was still the alive with all of her memories copied and transfered to many different places to make sure no one could deleted her mind, thanks to that, she was able to get all the information to make her to jump back into the past before Buzz was able detect the planet, and take control of the AI causing the another timeline to be create...
That timeline, Mother was able to convince herself and her husband into transfering their minds into AIs long before their bodies died, Zurg is still the principal villain, but no matter how much Buzz will try to hunt down Zurg to destroy him, he will never be able to completely destroy him, like a play where the good guy never can get rid of the main villain, after all, the moment Buzz tries, his mother will transfer more copies of his father's consciousness into different Zurg!Robots, each one harder than the later~

Honestly, the lesbian kiss was probably put in purely for publicity. Whenever a story is awful and is unable to keep the audience's attention, the writer(s) usually tends to throw something in to get people interested so as to make up for the lack of excitement to that point; and so, a gay couple was tossed into the mix because Pixar believes that will stir up some discussion. However, gay characters introduced purely for the sake of having gay characters has become a bit of a tired trope at this point so the "wow!" factor really wasn't nearly as impactful as the writers might've hoped. If anything, attempting to use minorities as a significant narrative draw(as well as a failed shield against criticism) would only backfire, making people less interested in seeing the film, hence the relatively weak box office that the film received.
Pixar really implemented strategy poorly with this one from a marketing perspective.

IN THE PILOT THAT IS, because for some reason, the show decided to just, not take him seriously at all
Buzz here, while not as terrible as he was in toy story 4, realy doesn't demonstrate his inteligence from the OT, i would argue this show started the "buzz is stupid" argument, as he isn't taken seriously by his cadets, and like Lightyear, buzz barely used his helmet, it makes sense why he doesn't in ts2-3 but in blosc, there is no reason for him not to use it, like how he doesn't in lgm world or planet z, he only uses it on the intro

No idea at all. They don’t think to mention it to him at all over the entire year it takes them to prepare for the test and are startled to find that he’s startled by the time in time. Both parties are dumbfounded that he didn’t know and have to revert to whiteboard doodles to explain it to him. WTF…

Does anyone who decides to be a space ranger just commit to giving up their entire lives? Why would you even be a space ranger at that point? By the time you're done with a mission using hyper speed, anyone you'd know on earth would be well dead. Any scientists you'd report your findings to would also be long dead. So...what's the point here? Why is buzz so hardwound to "get everyone home" when any "home" they could ever return to probably wouldn't remember or welcome them anyway?? Like is hyper speed reserved for special missions? If so, why does it require hyper speed to get OFF the planet? Did they use hyper speed to GET there?? I'm so condused

Watson is a trans man, he starts off as a woman but he explains he used magic to transition. It's just treated as normal. Literally he says "there was a mistake, I corrected it, let's go solve this case." It's not treated as a big deal, it doesn't define Watson's character, it's a tiny blip and then everyone moves on. THAT'S how you do LGBT representation. I'm so sick of media treating LGBT, POC, women, etc like their deviance from the cishet white male norm is the only trait that defines them.

So my main problems are like, he's using Back to The Future rules for how time travel is supposed to work and I would've just thought after the mcu movies we would all be more accepting of the whole branching timelines idea. the universe doesn't have to explode into oblivion because of a time paradox? there's nothing wrong with how they depicted time travel in this movie any more so than how other movies do or how the mcu does.
and then most of the video is just pointing out ways in which buzz acts out of character. and again, since this is effectively a prequel (in buzz's mind) this is basically just asking "why is this character acting different in a past movie?"
and showing instances where buzz "acts like a moron?" 😕
"why didn't he cut the vine from the bottom, the rookie would've fallen the same distance either way" no he wouldn't? I am begging you... PLEASE go back to 57:25 at this point in the video and tell me if do you not see the *giant insect* which is latched onto him at the top? if he'd cut the vine from the bottom the rookie wouldn't fall, the vine would. and then the *giant insect* clearly latched onto him at the top would fly away with him?
"why do they try to take his therapy cat from him right after he learned his best friend DIED" uhm because they don't really have much sympathy or respect for him anymore at this point in the movie? was that not clear? I thought the scene before this kinda illustrated that and this scene kinda helped really punctuate it?
"why didn't buzz go up into the sky instead of straight into that mountain or anywhere else" idk to me it looked like he was wrestling with the controls of a ship that was malfunctioning/ hurtling towards the ground and couldn't quite get them to do what he wanted in that instance? am I wrong here?
There were more like this, just like "Cinema Sins" level of critiques. Taking scenes out of context. Being overly pedantic about everything. "The Buzz Lightyear I know and love would've told them there was a timer on the stealth mode!" Okay, well I'm sure that would have been a fun scene. "the bugs would have flown over the fence!" Okay yeah or they would behave like bugs in real life and just be kinda dumb and never figure out that it zaps them idk, it's just stuff where you're like "yeah sure I guess"
"why don't the bugs care about the cat that's floating through the air" because it isn't a cat. it's a piece of metal/plastic that's shaped like one. and also who cares, it's a cute visual gag in a family animated movie. "the vines used to be a threat, now they're played for laughs." yeah. they just adapted to it and learned to live with it idk you don't have to yell. "the splashback from that rocket launcher should have exploded everything" okay.
is this really the type of film analysis you guys enjoy?
last thing I wanna say "the reveal makes no sense" is just a matter of opinion. To me the reveal made perfect sense because there's no other character in the movie who's as singularly driven and dedicated as Buzz. You know, aside from Zurg... 👀 And what I really love about it is that it's not like the two have opposing goals which are closely paralleled or something, no they both want the *exact* same thing. And so did *you* until that reveal. It's only then that you realize "oh yeah.. that's what would have happened if Buzz had succeeded" you also see glimpses of him going down that path in the movie too and you guys are all talking about how unlikable he is so it's not that hard to picture that he could've been turned into a villain. He essentially was without realizing it. He's trying to unwrite these peoples' lives so he can go on fun space missions with his friend again and feel like he matters and doesn't care about anything else.
I don't think it should be canon, but I don't think there's any other reveal that would have been as satisfying, surprising or thematically impactful to the story they were trying to tell as this one.
Anyways that's my 3 and a half-ish minute response to an hour and a half-ish long video. I hope some of that made sense.

Pixar is usually all about accuracy, and if we know one thing about the 90's it's that same-sex relationships weren't even allowed to be alluded to, let alone shown on screen in kids media. it's funny how the director insists that he 'didn't think at all' about Buzz Lightyear of Star Command when this story has like... SO many similar elements to the tv movie in question
-Buzz loses his best friend and has emotions about it, the tv movie starts with the supposed death of his partner and best friend Warp Darkmatter (whom, despite having not a lot of screentime with you still get an easy read on and can enjoy his dynamic with Buzz)
-Buzz isn't keen on new recruits, due to the trauma of his best friend presumably dying in a fiery explosion Buzz refuses to take another partner out of fear with Zurg constantly gunning for him whoever he'd be partnered with would end up dead like Warp
-Buzz struggles with the idea that a certain tragedy is his fault and goes to huge extents to try and solve it, again, refusing to take a partner in part because he clearly blames himself for Warp's 'death'
-there's an armored villain that reveals themself to be a familiar face, Warp was actually working for Zurg the whole time and reveals that he hadn't died when he shows he's the mysterious 'Agent Z' There's a fun moment where Buzz, refusing to admit that his friend was never REALLY his friend starts going through different ways Warp would EVER be in Zurg's side (its played for comedy at first, but when Warp says directly he'd been on Zurg's side since the academy you can really feel the sadness in Buzz over it)
-Buzz's team after some buildup is a determined new cadet with a huge legacy on her shoulders(Mira Nova) A loveable robot (XR) and a guy that's rolled around like a wrecking ball at least once (Booster)
and it was still done better because they practically go out of their way to show Buzz being constantly kind and respectful to people, and even if because it's a goofy show Buzz can be kind of a goof he rarely feels like an idiot, more just stubborn or skeptical, and easy to get lost in his own head (which actually IS in line with his toy story characterization)

Reasons why people hated the lesbian kiss and why it's not (mostly) homophobic:
      - It was a pandering 2-second scene that could be easily cut out in places like China and the middle east and when people called them out on it they put it back. People aren't going to watch a movie for just those 2 seconds when practically every modern show including the one for kids and teens has LGBT representation.
      - There's also the fact that one female got pregnant. They could've just had them adopt or live it out because it's not important to the plot, but the movie implies that she either did the thing with a man to have a baby or some Sci-Fi excuse. Most kids know the ''when mommy and daddy love each other. . . '' and most parents don't want to explain what in vitro is to their kid. (How many people were on the ship? Everybody will be inbred in a generation or two.)
      - Straight people aren't obligated to watch gay romance. Just like gays aren't fore to watch straight romance movies. No one can force anyone to watch anything. People are tired of ''Watch this terrible movie because it has representation in it and if you don't you're Hitler.'' Anybody with a backbone would say ''It's not true.'' and wouldn't watch it (legally) out of spite.

Lightyear should have been inspired by old 50s pulps, like Dan Dare, Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. Instead of that, they tried to ape interstellar and the failed miserably. The old "Star Command" cartoon wasn't perfect but it handled the concept WAY better than this thing. Also, SPOILER making Zurg and Buzz the same person because of time travel shenanigans is the WORST IDEA EVER. Zurg is supposed to be an alien evil emperor. In this movie he's not alien, he's not evil and he's not an emperor. He's not even a character, but an empty suit. I'm sad and extremely dissapointed.

I want to add a few points here that I think shouldn't be overlooked:
For one, they didn't take advantage that it was an animated movie and that always frustrates me. The movements were so stiff and unnatural it was hard for me to ignore. I was so disappointed that they didn't take advantage that it's a space movie too. An example for all of this is in the beginning when Buzz picks up the rookie and runs towards the ship. The person felt so weightless and like he was made of plastic. At least have buzz stagger and struggle to hold another person while the ground was unstable, that would make for really good tension. And it would make the space scenes all that more weightless and terrifying
    (Spoilers for the next part)
Then there's the future buzz situation. The entire story of buzz going to the far distant future to a perfectly fine space ship with no person or alien around. That honestly sounds like a much better story than what we have. What happened to those people? Are we going to actually see more aliens? Why was this ship abandoned if it had such high technology and this many robots? Why was the ship in such good shape with no evidence of struggle anywhere? That sounds like an interesting story! But no, we didn't get that and my questions to that only shows that the writers didn't think about that

I'll just say as a gay person, its not the lesbian characters that offend me, its the reason they were included that offends me, and many many other gay people.
For years we have wanted genuine representation, realistic, and unapologetic, and for decades we constantly assured everybody that being gay is not a political stance. And then Disney finally decides to "allow" that representation only when they can use it to make some cheap shot at their political adversaries in the USA, while still censoring it in other countries. It comes only after years of being a purse puppy to many corporations, treating us like cash cows and shields against criticism while we are left with no substantive gains, if anything our movement is being undermined because these corporations keep poking the bear so to speak.

Now you HAVE to see our shitty movie!"
We deserve to be more than props and set dressing used to market things that don't involve the characters in question. Look at Star Wars, for instance - for all the hoopla over a gay couple in a brief celebration scene, what did the film have to do with homosexuality or any character who was even just nominally gay?

On another note I'm lesbian and I can't stand the "gay representation" they insist is in the movie because 1) everyone knows Disney is going to remove it for Chinese audiences, so what is even the point, 2) it obviously is more about Disney covering their ass politically because of the Floridian "Don't Say Gay" bill they shoved their money into (which, I am also Floridian, so isn't that just funny, Disney) and 3) if this movie is supposed to be from the 70s-90s, they shouldn't even be in the movie to begin with, because anti-gay sentiment was so strong back then that this would have caused a huge uproar in the public, especially because Buzz later became a children's toy. People today still think gay people are predators inherently because of our sexual orientation-how do you think it was like back then, all sunshine and rainbows? I'm sick of Pixar and Disney shitting on Toy Story like this. he made a couple points I agree with. but man there was a LOT that I didn't. This is a 3 minute read. please bear with me because it was a long video...
So my main problems are like, he's using Back to The Future rules for how time travel is supposed to work and I would've just thought after the mcu movies we would all be more accepting of the whole branching timelines idea. the universe doesn't have to explode into oblivion because of a time paradox? there's nothing wrong with how they depicted time travel in this movie any more so than how other movies do or how the mcu does.
and then most of the video is just pointing out ways in which buzz acts out of character. and since this movie is effectively marketed as a prequel and origin story (in buzz's mind at least) then this is basically just asking "why is this character acting different in a past movie?" 😡
and showing instances where buzz "acts like a moron?"
"the splashback from that rocket launcher should have exploded everything" okay.
is this really the type of film analysis you guys enjoy?
last thing I wanna say the reveal being nonsensical is just a matter of opinion.
I was just hoping more people or the channel himself could see this because some points were valid, most of them felt like nonsense..?

@@ben66562 May i add, that people don't seem to realize, old Buzz IS the real Buzz, or OG Buzz? And Young Buzz is the Buzz created because Old Buzz traveled back in time and created an alternate timline (yes Back To the Future kinda)
Originaly Buzz should have been received by the militars when landing, this is what caused him to flee to the space, to end up traveling back into the future. And since he was ALONE all of this time, he never had a chance to grow...
Young Buzz is the alternate timeline version, who didn't had to flee BECAUSE THE MILITARS WERE TRAPPED in the city this time around! And he didn't had to flee back to the space, and got to spend time with the grand daughter, and went tru these experiences that made him have an emotional growth.
And Old Buzz isn't even evil realy... With his technology, he could have caused so much harm. But instead, he just wanted to get the crystal his young self had... The robots you see didn't pay too much attention to the rest of the guys once they had Buzz. When they were chasing the vehicle. i dont remember them shooting at the people on the big open door in the back? They were just trying to catch up to them to teleport them.
If anything Old Buzz was just stuck on his mission. Thinking it was THE RIGHT thing to do... i mean... he saw his good friend die of old age, while crying she missed the space missions etc... And again, he never had the chance to grow emotionaly, because he was pretty much all alone all the time. If anything, you could say he wanted to recover his friends and his life. He himself said it: Noone will suffer for someone that never existed... because nothing of these would have happened.
However, i am not defending the movie. This is perhaps. the only thing i thought it was clever in the whole movie.. How he got outside of hyperspace in the most perfect moment to find an abandoned super advanced alien sheep? Where he could just get in and use everything and all the robots would obey him just because? This is now beyond convenient... is stupid... a mega plot hole... How and When he got the core from the main spaceship and translated it into the Zurg ship to use it to time travel? And yes the way they try to explain he could travel to the past because he can travel to the future is the worst part... he didnt travel to the future... he went through hyperspace which dilated his time and thus it would seem as he was in hyperspace a few hours but years would have past for everybody else.. thats not time travel... and they even explained that!

@@josejuanandrade4439 Yes you may. good stuff! thanks for adding it. yeah the morality of it is tricky. First I'd have to go back and watch to see how much harm Zurg actually causes. Because you'd think if he knew that this reality was temporary anyways, then he really wouldn't hold back or care who he hurt in it in the process. But idk I'll need to watch again.
And it's tricky because I feel like, if somebody told me they were going to unwrite my existence, I'd kind of feel threatened by that in the immediate moment i think. Even if I wouldn't know. I'd still probably want to stop them if there was a chance to. But if I fail, well, yeah I wasn't "killed". I just never was to begin with.
And yeah, him finding the spaceship was dumb and lazy to the point that you may as well call it a plot hole. And it's like... he didn't have to find it on like his first jump. Just have it be a progression. From all the different planets and times he's hopped to, have him build up this ship and this suit and this empire over time. But no, he just finds it immediately fully assembled and waiting for him and then for the next 50 years he's testing out the time jumps.

I've been discussing it with my friend, but I think Zurg should have been Burnside. It explains why he's so insistent they stop trying to leave the planet and should just stay where they are, he's super dismissive of Hawthorne's position before him, discarding her door name plaque without hesitance in front of who was her closest friend, why he seems to immediately cancel the therapy companion program when this is the time Buzz would need it most. And why he's desperate to not even let Buzz try for one more test flight.
There's changes I'd suggest to have it make more sense or more seamless - he's more passive aggressive to Buzz, insisting he's canceling their future test flights for Buzz's own good because he cares, referring to him as 'son' to try and manufacture a bond (also my way of referencing the 'I am your father' line best I could), trying to convince Buzz to just come to him with his problems to try and put himself in the position of Hawthorne, which is also why he'd want to take Sox away. Not to mention, if Buzz tried to tell him Sox figured out the formula, and Burnside dismissed it, only to then order his men to immediately retrieve it, it is a further explanation of why of all times, they take it away then.
I thought it was strange to see how ineffective the robots were when attacking the shield. They stood in place and just shot at one spot. It could have been a manufactured threat by Burnside since Buzz took the long trip to keep everyone under the shield and under his control, until suddenly Buzz is back and Burnside has a problem.
Obviously there's more plot points to smooth out and figure out the hows and whys for certain actions, but it was my thought for Zurg.

So even assuming Buzz had no idea what time dilation was beforehand, why would nobody discuss this with him before he leaves on his flight? Nobody bothers to say he'll be missed, or things are going to change while he's gone? Nothing? Nope. Surprising the audience is more important than making sense.

Also, Buzz crashing the turnip should have killed people because when he discusses going back in time with Zurg, Zurg wanting to go back to save them would bring up a dilemma--save the lives of those who died, or "kill" people who wouldn't exist? I object to the term homophobic. My aversion to homosexual behavior is neither irrational or fearful.
I have moral and religious objections to it and it’s portrayal in media especially when aimed at children.
You calling me a bigot won’t change that.
As it stands, I do happen to believe that the inclusion of that kiss was one contributing factor of many to the movie’s failure.

Technically, it is less irrational and more hypocritical.

I got so depressed when they set up for a sequel. I can’t take Disney doing this shit anymore. Just milk milk milk everything even when there’s nothing left to milk.

Okay to be fair to Chris Evans he does seem like he's really trying to do a Tim Allen impression and it's pretty good. I expected Buzz it just sound completely different.

      I liked him as Buzz.
He is an okay voice actor for a real life version of Buzz.

Amen brother. WHO THE FUCK LEAVES THEIR GIGANTIC WARSHIP IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE IN SPACE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!? That is the absolute equivalent of stealing someone’s car in the middle of the desert! I’m surprised not one of these post credits scenes have the actual Zurg showing up and being like, “ hey! Who stole my ship? “

You could theorize that Alicia had sox special ordered for buzz with all the gadgets and thats why they wanted him terminated. Cause he was dangerous. This does bring up the simple question of “why?”
The other option is that, obviously sox was also created to subdue clients who went insane (hence the sleep darts) and his numerous tools were to aid in this effort. A hack ability to open closed doors, blowtorch when that failed, etc. this brings up the “why so much computing power?” Question for hacking and his numerous tools tho
