anatomy isn't that hard, it's a game of memorisation and practice. are you sure you're not struggling with foreshortening and the like? I used to draw eccentric poses and would get a weird result, always thought it was anatomy but in reality it was a problem of perspective.
Really, master your linework, perspective and poses, in that order, before going into anatomy and other similar details (machinery, clothes, props, &c).

It means its pretty satisfying once I'm done because I already know I'm happy (or as close as I'm gonna get) with each bit, but it probably doubles or trebles the time till completion.

You've impacted my life and art so, so much. Only a few summers ago, I had no art style, skills, or anything to match. But when I found your channel, it changed EVERYTHING. I started to study your art style and tips, and eventually, my style became my own; a serious amalgamation of every art style and person I had studied before. You're literally the reason I want to start a youtube channel, the reason I even have my tiny little Imgur account, the reason I don't mind all the hate I've gotten (It was to be expected, they were KPOP paintings and people are dumb) I owe everything I've become in the art world to you and a ton of other artists. Your content is phenomenal! Thank you for being you! :D
I've been working hard on a lot of KPOP paintings recently actually, and this video served as a reminder to not overwork myself. I legit spent 8 hours in a day working on a digital painting simply because I wanted to, and I've been getting gradually slower, so this video is literally sent straight from art heaven *sheds a tear of gratitude

Recently started a webcomic and looking at your webcomic has helped me with so many tips!
Every time I find myself fussing over some detail, I think “would I care about that issue if I saw that in Unfamiliar?” And if my answer was no, I just let it be.
I’ve been trying to keep up frequent updates to get the story to move forward and as a result a sometimes let my art look rather basic. While I’m sure it doesn’t look as beautiful as I’d like it to be, I’ve never been happier knowing my characters are finally coming to life outside of my sketchbook.

A really great exercise to improve your speed (and also the looseness of your drawings) is gesture drawing. Give yourself a very short amount of time (like, 30 seconds) to try and capture the shape of an object. You can also practice drawing characters and environments and scenes AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, without getting stuck on details. Like, just get the overall shape and enough detail to know what you're looking at. :) I find it a fun way to practice.

The first tip was a HUGE game-changer for me...I applied this to myself and thought about what took up most of my time when I drew after watching this video. This helped me realized I spent a _lot_ of time fixing anatomical mistakes and that pushed me to change the way I figure draw, which helped me draw a lot faster the next time around 😁 thank you for this blessing of a video ♥

    • @guilhermeguilherme7314
      @guilhermeguilherme7314 5 лет назад

that's surprising, for me the digital is at least 2 times faster, because of all the tools that i can use; try getting expertise with the program you work, getting used to use keybinds and knowing better the tools can help a lot to get faster, assuming that you want to.

my advise is visualize everything before starting because you'll have a clear direction of what you want the thing to end up looking like, instead of stumbling blindly drawing, it can help procrastination, understand/get comfortable with the character beforehand

A good tip for managing perfection in digital art is to try and not zoom in as much. It makes you focus on the whole image instead of petty details.

This was what I needed today. I was literally thinking this today. I just realized I can make vector images in Clip Studio for basic stuff like trees and background characters so that I can reuse them occasionally. That should lighten the workload. If anything some of them could probably be a running gag.

Not trying to correct or be rude or anything Lavendertowne, you are literally one of the only people I watch and a big inspiration I would never insult you 💕
So, about the try not to watch shows or movies while your drawing, in my experience ( which is not much at all but I’ve been drawing for a while ), I like to put on a movie or tv show that I have watched each episode/the movie over 3 times, and listen to the noise since I’ve watched it so many times, I don’t feel bad about missing out on what’s going on. For me, I would just watch Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone since I’ve read and watched it over 5 times, and the show Bobs Burgers since I’ve also watched each episode over 3 times. There are also shows/movies that YOU could probably fall asleep to, but ( note it takes me *hours* to get to sleep ) I would put on Harry Potter and be asleep before we even saw Harry at all. ( sadly it’s not on Hulu or HBO anymore ;( )
Now this is just my opinion/experience, if this doesn’t work for you, fine! Find something else that works for you, but this works for me and for other people so dont be rude about it if you disagree ( again I know Lavendertowne disagrees but she’s not rude, so if she sees this I don’t hate you or anything, read the top line again )

Also using tools might help a lot. Yesterday i spent an hour and a half trying to get one simple pose right and it only worked when i used a 3d model as a reference. So references and not going in blind might also be a good tip.

Great advice with the combination of two different work fields. I'm frequently working on my weekly manga updates myself. Had to write and submit a storyboard with a screenplay for a storytelling seminar once. My professor fortunately allowed me to submit the current dialogue scene from my manga since she was interested in different narration styles and media. She was so kind and told me what she likes about my work but also provided a lot of great visualization and narration advices which had a certain impact on my current style.

I have a good tip that i like to use! If there's something that you know you can draw on-the-fly without sketching it out first, add it in when you're doing lineart instead. That way you're not wasting time drawing details in your sketch and you can move onto the lineart quicker.

something about watching art commentary and just hearing people talk about random stuff then looking up and seeing that they are drawing to is just so inpiring!
    music, ofc no explanation
true crime its something interesting, like a show except you don't have the visuals.
btw my favorite true crime person who i would suggest is Eleanor Neale she is just so amazing and has a very interesting voice that's easy to follow along with
