@@tirramasu7948 i feel this so hard lol but tbh one of the major takeaways i had from this video is that context is everything. jackie drew 3 pieces in an hour and a half but even she said that that’s different than drawing thumbnails, picking a color palette, etc. those are things that will benefit from you slowing down and thinking about your decisions. which tbh made me feel better about taking a long time on certain drawings - sometimes it actually is the right decision lol! but ig practicing drawing quickly will help you draw faster in the future, even on those projects that require some thought. anyway i just wanted to chime in in solidarity lol - someday we’ll get there… slowly but surely…!
Though not quite the same. I’ve worked on storyboards in the advertising industry and have to turn out a lot drawings in a day and amend them. 8-10 drawings a day minimum. On an intense day and a year ago it was 21 drawings in about 9 hours (same day). The more you do the faster you get but obviously deadlines are a motivator too 😂
What worked for me: MAKE UGLY DRAWINGS! I had to get over the pressure of making a nice drawing, so I started sketching with a pen on scrap pieces of paper, with the intention of throwing it out once I was done. This removed all the pressure and allowed me to draw freely. You can always scan/photograph/trace the drawing and make it pretty later if you want to, but you're developing the skill of drawing faster and more freely.
@@BurntSushi. Care to elaborate? For me I had to realize that I am not my art. My value is not first in my art. Perfectionism actually gets in the way. One particular project I literally spent 7 YEARS planning. I realized if my ugly drawing, film, website, game, etc. wasn't good or perfect, I could try again with the next one. @@milesmungo Honestly, I'm still in my early(?) learning phase when it comes to art, so do with this information what you will. When it comes to anything I do, I am always extremely detail-oriented. Writing projects, art, work, etc. I take my time to make sure that everything I do has detail put into it. My attention to detail has been extremely helpful in art classes, where teachers stress realism in order to help students with fundamentals, but I struggle to transfer my attention-to-detail from realism to a more stylized way of drawing. I know how something is supposed to look, but I'm too stuck in the boundaries of reality. I can't figure out how to draw something without all the important details or in a stylized way when I know that features that are supposed to be there. Additionally, I always plan on keeping my drawings as personal reminders. There has never been a time where I felt comfortable with throwing out something that I remember drawing. Sure, I may just turn the page in my sketchbook and start drawing something else, but it's still there to remind me. However, when I look back at those things, I just get discouraged because I know how bad it looks compared to other things that I've been able to draw or drew on the very next page. I don't know if these make sense at all, but those are my problems when it comes to drawing for fun.
I’ve met a few professional, very successful illustrators, who design all their work on cheap printer paper. Because expensive paper makes them second guess themselves too much, for editorial illustration you might need a finished piece in two days. Their works’ quality doesn’t suffer, because they found this workflow through experience and trail and error. They would also echos Jackie’s comment about not drawing things you don’t enjoy drawing, if your portfolio is full of very clean line work and you hate drawing like that…well you’re going to be hired to draw that way if that’s what’s in your portfolio !

I feel like many artists don't really open up about being impatient so I'm really glad you're upfront about it :) makes it feel seen as an artist!
As someone who has struggled with perfectionism and slow drawing, my best tip is it not really think about it and just be super loose with your drawing. Don’t spend time trying to make the perfect lines, or keep going back and changing things. I find that when I do things without much thought, my art looks better and a lot LESS FLATT. The key is to honestly just go with the flow.

Hey Jackie! I found your channel (beginning with your short films and now working my way through your other long-form vids) right when I decided to add an animation minor to my business major. I want so desperately to take classes in something I’m passionate about, art, even though it’ll never be my career, but I was gripped with anxiety about being good enough. Because, you know, classes impact GPA, which impact financial aid, which decide whether or not I go to college. I’m near the end of my freshman year and next semester I’m starting animation classes. I’m so hyped and using your videos to work on getting better in the meanwhile. Thank you!!
Question: Do you have any tips for improving efficiency in animation, since the no-lines, sketch-to-final quality in motion might just lead to inconsistent characters?
Something that helped me recently is not worrying on making things look good and instead try to focus on presenting the feeling I want. I was trying to draw a hug and it didn’t look the best but it gave the feeling of safety and love that i wanted
I do almost the same when I draw quickly, honestly I learn how to do so cuz I always draw in the bus when I'm coming home, in digital it becomes more easy than traditional and that also improves my speed it's good to see that the things I use to learn are really good tips to give to others (Ironically too, now that I can draw quickly I'm practicing how to draw more slow, put all the details, work in landscapes, work in my backrounds and how my characters interact with them so then when I had learn that I can start to making it more and more quickly too)
I've been trying to get a faster and more efficient workflow recently, this realy helps! My art style is really detailed and heavily rendered (i love drawing that way) but I'm also really impatient and like seeing results fast aswell. Line art was something I always dreaded and it took me forever but I loved the way it looked. To cut that I've started cleaning up my sketch as I render and touching it up as needed. Cut my work time in half and made me enjoy the process more! Love the tips in this video and I'll definitely try to use them!
I've just came acrossed your channel recently and have been binging them. Our process is much the same except I'm comfortable doing natural and landscapes more so than ppl. I've learned a lot from your videos and excited to use your techniques etc in exploring and studying figure drawing
Can’t wait to use these tips! My major involves drawing environments and I think some of these will help to quickly get drawings as I will procrastinate out of fear for how long it will take. Thank you so much!
what about those of us who have basically no visual imagination? the first point wouldnt apply to me because when i draw, im putting things down on paper so i can see them, because i cant in my mind. i have to draw things myself so i have an idea of how they look because i cant see them in my minds eye.
@@kashe7285 thank you. i just generally have a bad visual imagination (not full on aphantasia, but something close) so i cant picture things in my head aside from very blurry approximations. it sucks, but when i start drawing at least i can see things on the paper/screen and i start using the canvas as a way to visualize what i cant in my head (though of course it doesnt always turn out how i want it because of skill limitations)

Cut my work time in half and made me enjoy the process more! Love the tips in this video and I'll definitely try to use them!
I WISH I could repost a RUclips video, this is so helpful thank you so much 😭 🙏
I've just came acrossed your channel recently and have been binging them.
Stunning like always!! Please help us with the brushes, I would love to buy the ones you have been using for this video 🙏🏻
Wow, i didn't realize how early i am! Love the drawings as always, and i found your advice very helpful!

Máster of an efficient work, what is done is done
Step 1 is a bad day to have aphantasia 😭
what about those of us who have basically no visual imagination? the first point wouldnt apply to me because when i draw, im putting things down on paper so i can see them, because i cant in my mind. i have to draw things myself so i have an idea of how they look because i cant see them in my minds eye.
just apply what you can, and this video seems like its geared more toward people who know the fundamentals and have a decent visual library
Thank you!!!!
Very Nice ✍️💨
But what’s the secret to drawing good faster ?
Uh oh that’s a tough one

Then don’t zoom in that much
