never have I ever been so motivated to actually get a study accomplished !! - AND at the end of the week? Perfect timing - ALSO - absolutely in love with the Matrix piece btw !!
One thing I learned from doing these studies is something that might be helpful on why the Witch study was a struggle: it’s very common for us to have this idea of what skin (especially light skin) is supposed to be colored like, and we get caught in that idea rather than observing the values and colors of the actual image, especially when the lighting is different than what we usually see. We tend to make it much lighter than it is. Turning everything black and white and comparing just the values helped me internalize just how much darker light skin is supposed to be sometimes, especially if someone’s face is leaning a lot to red or oranges given how saturation gives us the impression that things are lighter.
I like how you mentioned tracing the film screenshot so as to just focus on the color, values and textures instead of getting the figure right. I think tracing gets a bad rap, but so long as it’s for learning I think it’s fine
This makes me miss creating. I feel like I completely gave up on my dream because I been focusing on other parts of my life like finishing school so I can leave a job I’m unhappy at. Art made me so happy
I hate studies, as a person with adhd any type of work that is "not real" feels like an absolute chore and for aspiring artists, just saying: I did became a working professional despite doing maybe 10 studies in my entire life BUT this ones looks like genuinely fun exercise and extremely motivating after seeing you progressing right in front of my eyes!!
Same. I dread doing studies knowing that I probably won't be happy about the result even if it somehow turns out indistinguishable from the original. It's just not MINE, y'know?
I took a break from art for months. Now I;m trying to get back into it and lacking any motivation. I'm going to try doing some studies too. Your videos always make me want to improve. Also, I think my favorite one is the matrix
I absolutely love your commentary and honesty. I learn so much about how to make creative decisions with purpose and why the fundamentals are so important. Thank you for your videos!
I love the process on the Matrix one, i wouldn't have thought to trace it, the delete the parts i want to stylize, idk why that never crossed my mind, but watching this was like 🤯 brain blast
You are absolutely mind-blowing! Every video when you have a goal of whether its improving on art, or anything else, you always, and I mean always achieve that very same goal in mind. The way you render and the creativity you have is something I wish I had, so keep going and never give up on this.
Please do more Matrix practice. I love it, and also the green/blue tints really focus your work and I can really see how you worked on it, took your time and it came out so amazing. I feel strongly that something on one of the ships should be really noisy in the background and be good practice. Especially in the latest movie.
I need to try do these kinds of limited studies. Up till now, i have always tried to copy the reference completely. No tracing, no color picking, no changing the pose or camera angle.. I dont like how i render things, so tracing a screenshot/photo, and then concentrating on just coloring it, could be a good practice. Thought maybe i should do a few grayscale studies first. Anyways, thanks, this was inspiring :D
honestly the texturing on the orc is my absolute favourite piece you did. i was really digging the background painting for leia aserll but i get why you stopped
I came in because of the Trinity portrait. I think it looks FANTASTIC in that stylish comic look. Thanks for sharing! Looking up to see more of your videos 🤩
Watching you do studies always motivates me to do them! I did a portrait study when you posted yoursx and my art did improve. Its like having a study partner :)
another very inspiring video .your hands make it look so easy .I'm having a bit of a creative block at the moment and now I've motivated myself to do some studies /instead of pouring myself a drink that doesn't work :) /
I loved this video. Thanks for sharing. I struggle a LOT with color and few things helped. I think it's because I have trouble even making out what the local color hue is. Would love to maybe get a bit more insight into how you train yourself to see color. I know value play a big part but somehow I can't translate especially digitally because there's too much to choose from basically.
I looove the style of Lord of the Rings shots you did, faces of the characters are very simple and stylized but still fit the background and the realistic color scheme
OMG I LOVE MATRIX AND I LOVE YOUR MATRIX ILLUSTRATION! You inspired me to do a matrix drawing too💚 Also, I loved your honesty about dropping the last drawing, we should make art of what we like and enjoy🫶
Thank you so much for sharing your approach with us. You’re one of my favorite’s on RUclips. Are you using blend modes to get your colors correct? If I were to really test myself, I think I’d avoid them(?)
Just curious what software you use to paint and if there's like specific tutorials you've watched or whatever else. Procreate only goes so far and I'd love to try and switch things up
Your work looks great. There's something I've been wondering about. Do you use a colour picker in such works or do you try to find the right colour yourself?
clicked the video. saw that your background and general vibe is like elliotisacoolguy but for art. then noticed you had a spiderpunk figurine to hold your mic? so. supscribe!
i'm wondering why you kept tracing images when i feel like you would learn more from not tracing? amazing video though you're motivating me to start drawing again!
Innocent question here. Do you feel that tracing these characters and environments stops your eye and hand from learning the perspective and proportion of things? I know they're studies focussed on painting but I'm curious. Regardless, your painting process is very impressive and it really helps to see the thought you put behind each piece. Your matrix piece is the most outstanding in the bunch, a great combination of stylization and accuracy. Can't wait to see more. ❤
I think it depends, personally tracing and blocking in shapes over photos/references has really helped me! I still do it sometimes because I just started drawing humans earlier this year, so I’m not the best at poses yet. But I’ve done that for years and it’s helped me immensely. I however, draw the line at tracing other peoples artwork (if you intend to post). I’ve seen many professional artists do this, this video is an example, so I encourage all artists to practice this way! Hope this helped!
If you're studying perspective, proportions, etc., then yes you should avoid tracing! But in that case you could also let yourself color-pick. Since she was focused on lighting and color, it's OK for her to trace, but she has to select/mix the colors herself. Lots of different skills to learn for art, and from what I've heard focusing on one or two at a time is the best way to learn. I often find myself unnecessarily detailing faces or anatomy when I'm supposed to be figure drawing, for example. Only in finished illustrations/paintings do you need to stress about all of them at once.
How do you even do a study? That feels like a stupid question I understand what you are doing but I don’t know how to replicate the process if that makes sense
Girl, you need to work on your expressions! Your art is so good! It really translates the piece… into a yaoi! Man, I ship that orc with pippin now? Not MerryxPippin! Random-Orc-from-a-scene-I-vaguely-rememberxPippin

Art makes my brain happy so I consider it part of my health regimen. Even just a few minutes a day does wonders. Don’t give up on making things!
It's waiting for you to get back to it

The Matrix one is amazing!❤ It's very satisfying to see your drawing processes. Your video encouraged me to do more practice. Thank you!
this is such a cool idea! I paint movie scenes too and it's so fun 😍
Another banger Jackie! I never thought about trying movie scene studies. I’m feeling mighty inspired.
Wow, you work so quickly! Everything looks amazing and you’ve inspired me to try this!!

I love how honest and true to yourself you are in this video. And all seven of these pieces are absolutely stunning!!!
I love the process on the Matrix one, i wouldn't have thought to trace it, the delete the parts i want to stylize, idk why that never crossed my mind, but watching this was like 🤯 brain blast

another cool way of studying color is just going with fully opaque hard round brush, forces u to be very deliberate with color choices you make
Please do more Matrix practice. I love it, and also the green/blue tints really focus your work and I can really see how you worked on it, took your time and it came out so amazing. I feel strongly that something on one of the ships should be really noisy in the background and be good practice.

Got the exact same issue as you, did you do this? Did it work/any advice?
honestly the texturing on the orc is my absolute favourite piece you did. i was really digging the background painting for leia aserll but i get why you stopped
My fav piece had to have been either the one with frodo and gandalf or the hobbit house piece, but all of them were amazing tho!!!
The matrix study was my favourite
I am so very glad that you gave yourself a break and stopped on the last one. Do this for you!
The LOTR and Matrix practice were outstanding, great work!
Very cool and informative to see your process! I think I liked The Matrix one and the following LOTR one with Frodo and Gandalf the most!
I came in because of the Trinity portrait. I think it looks FANTASTIC in that stylish comic look. Thanks for sharing! Looking up to see more of your videos 🤩
Great channel I found a new binge study channel thanks for your time editing these videos
i decided to look at artofakbar and omg the studies are gorgeous. i wish the texture brushes were available akdkd i love them!
I am amazed that the studies took 30-40 min only! Wow good job
9:00 Can you explain how you do texture? How important is the brush? Do you use multiple textured brushes? How do you block out the texture?
I like your spidy-punk microphone holder!❤❤❤❤
Watching you do studies always motivates me to do them! I did a portrait study when you posted yoursx and my art did improve. Its like having a study partner :)
It's easy peasy to paint over the screenshot using the eyedropper tool to choose the color and value, can you study it in gouache or acrylics?)...
Very entertaining and informative video ❤ keep it up!
another very inspiring video .your hands make it look so easy .I'm having a bit of a creative block at the moment and now I've motivated myself to do some studies /instead of pouring myself a drink that doesn't work :) /
Great idea for a warm up, I love how everything turned out!
Very nice. This was extremely helpful. Thanks.
Actually amazing art, you inspire me alot as a 12 year old artist:D
LOVE THIS VIDEO! AMAZING!
the frodo one was SPOT ON
Jackie, will you please do a painting using traditional methods, not digital? Would love to see your style then x Nell.
I'd love to see more of these filmstudies!

Interesting way to learn to paint.

I love your hair!
i gotta do some film studies, these look fun!
I liked the matrix, and I like the ogre especially if you did it in only 20mins.
you’re my favorite artist of all time. FAOAT 😅
The Spiderman microphone is so hilarious
I really enjoyed the video. Could you link the artists you mentioned in the description?
1 hour is more ? 😮
HOW!!
Number 4 😱😱🤌🏻🤌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
13:45 *"Scratch that,* reverse it." 😂 (All I hear is the Wolka trailer)
I love that Hobie is holding your microphone 😂🥰
Just curious what software you use to paint and if there's like specific tutorials you've watched or whatever else. Procreate only goes so far and I'd love to try and switch things up

Your work looks great. There's something I've been wondering about. Do you use a colour picker in such works or do you try to find the right colour yourself?
She said color picker is cheating 😉
Very Nice ✍️
so cool 🛐🛐❤

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hello. Is this make sense to learn Adobe illustrator, Photoshop and other graphic software in those AI days?
❤❤
Fun vid! Would u recommend this for animated films or is live-action better for learning?
i'm wondering why you kept tracing images when i feel like you would learn more from not tracing?
amazing video though you're motivating me to start drawing again!
I thought you said “I’m on a break autistically” couldn’t’ve related more for a sec xD
How long it take to draw 1 screen?
what brush textureis that and can i find simular on ibis paint please help guys
I have a question: I noticed your studies have more contrast / are lighter in the lights than the source image. Was that a stylization choice?
Spider punk as you mic???!!!
Innocent question here. Do you feel that tracing these characters and environments stops your eye and hand from learning the perspective and proportion of things? I know they're studies focussed on painting but I'm curious.

How do you even do a study? That feels like a stupid question I understand what you are doing but I don’t know how to replicate the process if that makes sense
You kind of just observe and try to replicate that as good as you can
Please dye your hair ! It would look so cool with your hair cut !
in my option in the thumbnail the one on the left looks like it has more life in it and the right side one looks bland
жесть ты красивая
Girl, you need to work on your expressions! Your art is so good! It really translates the piece… into a yaoi! Man, I ship that orc with pippin now? Not MerryxPippin! Random-Orc-from-a-scene-I-vaguely-rememberxPippin
Like, that expression is so soft
Honestly not trying to be mean or make fun. Just trying to point out something I think you can improve upon.
I wanna see the BLOODLUST in that Orc’s eyes.
