5:40 Can I just say thank you for keeping the spirit of the character? You enhanced the proportions but you kept the nose shape and lip shape all the same, and I really appreciate that :D (not my drawing for the record, I just noticed that you were really respectful that way!)
15:18 😭♥thank you so much for critiquing my drawing, Jackie!! I absolutely love how you made the shoes big and chunky and how fluffy and loose the sweater feels! I'd definitely think more about making shapes in different sizes and checking my values!!
Yeah, I was looking at it, and I thought, gosh, that looks perfect. If I were in that situation, I'd have no idea what to say about how to improve the drawing, and would be trying hard to find something, anything, to improve. But she made it look from great to *incredible*!
I think my favorite part about your “fixing/roast” videos are that unlike a lot of artists I usually see make these kinds of videos, you actually try to match the artsyle of the artwork you’re “fixing” instead of just making it look like your own artsyle. These videos are super entertaining and helpful! Love it ❤
I love watching art critiques from ppl who actually know what they're doing and explain the logic/theory behind each change they make. Jackie gives off great vibes and always shows respect to the original artist's work while giving them valuable pointers too
that second example is actually so crazy, just the one change of moving the nose and lips down with no other alterations besides that immediately improved the anatomy and facial structure
It’s crazy how a lot of the changes are just moving the artists own lines around and after it looks so much better. Like when she doesn’t even draw on top and just shifts the original drawing it’s like the original artist has the skill they just need some guidance in applying it.
The way you criticize, the way you work, the way you explain and advise shows just how of a PROFESSIONAL you are! The thing that really makes it impressive is that you fix and show a better version of the drawing without changing the art style and not make it feel like your own unlike other artists that destroy the spirit of the drawing rather than fix it. Nice work Jackie!!💌
I’m so glad to find an art RUclipsr that critiques art rather than entirely changing it to their art style and the characters design because they feel like it.
Please do more of these!!! I usually don't learn much from that kind of video but the way you do it has actually taught me a lot. I'm so glad I found your channel!
A lengthy comment to a small jump-cut at 2:47 I think one of the problems with the first drawing was the eye. Human eye physically can't rotate past 50 degrees, + the view cone is about ~40 deg (yep I googled). So even when going for the most bombastic sideeye, the eye can't look straight at you while the face is in full profile. On the drawing though due to quite a bit of white of the eye left of the iris it looks like the eye is staring straight at us, making it look uncanny. Jackie improved it by tucking the white space in, which clearly helps, but did not comment on it, so I thought I'd mention that.
I love how such simple things make it look so much different and helps improve the art!- its just all these little things added together that really change the piece as a whole and its so fun to watch ^^
I don't know if anyone has pointed it out to you yet, but just a tip, the drawing with the braids, they were drawn mostly correctly! They were drawing them not as braids that you would see in your hair, but as box braids which are tightly braided so they don't tend to be bumpy! In fact, if braided really small, the edges are so smooth that it moves and resembles straightened hair! I understand your critique, but I would personally consider the culture/type of braid before changing something like that, as the type of braid the artist originally did was an entirely different thing than what it was turned into! :)
Genuinely love this so much more than other art fixing videos because you enhance instead of changing completely, first time seeing your channel and I believe more beginners should follow you
I'm absolutely in love with how you critique/ "fix" peoples art while still fitting in their original styles. So many people change the person's art entirely, basically making it their own piece and i love to see constructive criticism in the community :)
Yeesh, all of half an hour since posting and the comments already brim with cranky babies who don’t know what a critique is, or seemingly that the original artist specifically requested this kind of feedback.
I really appreciate just how respectful you are to the artist and their work. Usually when I see people attempting to "fix" others art, they unintentionally come across as rude or completely change the artstyle to their own without giving advice to improve (Kooleen is a good example on how not to fix someones art) but not only do you give actually helpful criticism and advice, but you keep the artstyle the same as the orignal while giving praise on what does work in the orignal
I’m taking digital art this year and a phage no clue what I’m doing. Watching your videos as well as hunting for tips has helped me learn from other peoples mistakes and how to avoid them myself. If anyone sees this and has tips for me, please share! I’m excited to learn how this sorcery works 😂. ❤❤❤
I know what you mean by the "references are for guides, not for drawings." But Im gonna have to disagree on this one😅 not every drawing is meant to be stylized. Some people like more realsitic styles and proportions
helloo i have a question! around 11:25 you said that references are for guides, not actual drawing, which is very opposite to what i’ve heard many artists say - can you (or anyone in the comments section) explain why you shouldn’t use references for actual drawing?
No you should use references! I mean copying exactly the pose without pushing it or stylizing is not helping you get better at making choices in design.
I'm not an artist but I disagree with what you did to the braided hair(is it even braided? could be dreads...) of the third one, it looked better before imho.
@@BahamutEx i definitely agree, I was just arguing that they probably weren't meant to be dreads. The way she drew it looks more weirdly lumpy then like braids tho
@@Goldie22 Yeah I can see your point. I see dreads way too rarely to say it for sure, still could be meant to be texture. *shrugs* at least we can agree that it looked better before, lol.
@@BahamutEx dreads look so cool, I need to figure out how to draw em so I can put em on more of my own characters lol But I really do hope I see them on more characters till then

So excited for this one! Best to learn on certain mistakes with practise, your videos help so much, and for the people featured, great art, keep going!
It's mindblowing how much a few little changes can completely change a drawing up. This is the type of stuff i try to do after taking a day or two break from a piece to get fresh eyes. Amazing work, this channel is so valuable to an artist like me who totally gets tunnel vision during a piece
Ok photoshop question - how are you able to lasso tool pieces of each drawing to where when you move the piece it looks like it’s on its own layer? Is the drawing just duplicated and you cut away from the top layer? Like the face and ear at 8:24
Would love to see more of this! This is great to see and genuinely super helpful. I've been drawing for years but still have plenty of room to improve, this all helps a lot
Side note, the way you push the drawing to be more interesting and more dynamic really remind me of how drag queens really push their costumes to be these big amazing works of wearable art. I'll keep that in mind when working on stylizing my character designs. I tend to think of things as needing to be proportional like it would be irl, but the beauty of art and design and being able to really push those boundaries. Will be keeping that in mind more often now
I love this series!! It’s super helpful for me as an artist to visually learn, so it’s been helping more than you know! Also, not sure if this has been mentioned already or not, but I noticed around 7:34 there’s some extra voice overlap (from what I think is the sponsored dialogue) and it was difficult to hear what was being read/said.
i would have kept a blue tint over her in the mermaid drawing, having that bright skintone doesn't make her look immersed in her surrounding which in water it matters a lot
3:00 Woah the art looked weird to me (I don't draw) but I didn't know why, then when you added the low part of the lip it all made sense and suddenly it looked much better!
I wish my professors would have done something like this. I swear this was so much more helpful and educational than any of their critique sessions ever were.
