Just curious ... are there any notes other than concert C (written G) that you play on the F side? Is it a piece or instrument fluidity or sound thing to have chosen to do so? I'm a lifelong Elkhart 8D player - I play on its F side as much as possible to take advantage of the instrument's warmth in the midrange. This piece is well suited for that choice. But, given my adoration for Patterson's horns (I plan to audition his Knopf model soon) this may no longer be an F vs. Bb side thing. I'll ask you and Erik (and Hugo et al) about it later. Cheers!
@@Frick-bv6xtF# on the Bb side could also potentially be too flat considering it’s the 5th harmonic on the D(concert G) horn, mainly if you’re playing in a key where F# is not the third. I feel like arguments could be made for both fingering options to be used since you can adjust small tuning discrepancies with air. I personally prefer bending down rather than up though
@@Lostkin413yes, you’re right, it’s mostly all preference. You need to be able to use the fingerings according to the context of the music. My horn is without pressing the trigger in Bb. I also learned on single Bb side so its more comfortable for me to play it on Bb side.
@@Lostkin413but I also feel like the F# on Bb side will not be too low in most keys since yes its the fifth harmonic, which mostly is too low if not the third of the key, but its also on 12 fingering. The more valves you use, the sharper the sound will be. Also I feel like we more often play in keys like D, G or A, where F# is used as the third of the chord instead of keys like B, E or F# where its used as the fifth and supposed to be high. But since we are good, we can adapt to different intonation issues by changing our main fingerings :)
I watch you for the first time. very beautiful sound. musical effects too .. but what about your short breath, does it take so long to play? such a feeling that the video and sound were recorded completely in different places ..
Thank you for your comments. I am not sure I understand your breathing question, but I can confirm that video and sound were recorded in the same place. Thank you for listening!
Great job! Love the smile at the end, it happens to me too 😁
your so amazing
From one old, not very good, horn player, I am very impressed! A difficult piece played beautifully. Thanks to Ernie for sending it to me.
How wonderful to hear you play again! Such a beautiful piece. Well done.
Piano and horn!! 🙌🏼📯🎶
Thank you for watching! Planning to make more piano and horn videos in the near future!

Wouldn't you play an F# on F side?
@@_CaptainCookieF# for the most part is too sharp on the F Horn.

Are you still making the hornrests?
