one of the best looking ones i've found. Many of these tutorials settle for a very instagramey look that doesn't really look like VHS, it's just chromatic aberration + noise and some "PLAY" letters on top. Good job
This tut was super easy to follow along for a newbie at premiere like me and the result came out fantastic !!! I also understood what each effect does, so I tweaked the numbers a bit to achieve the result I wanted. Thank you so so much !! 💯💯
Just my take on this but the overlay from the noise was a bit meh. Im aware you see noise snow in VHS footage but what i find fitting when those horizontal come the footage should also glitch a bit. I know its just a basic tutorial and you're not going in depth about this; just sharing my thought and have a small discussion about it.
The final layer of noise is definitely something that can be left out if need be. The Color Emboss helps draw out that fringe glitchy effect, but you could stack up layers of video and add a Channel effect to bring out any mixture of R G or B channels and offset the overlaid video tracks. For this video, I really wanted to try to keep everything in one or two effects that could easily be dropped onto Adjustment layers for multiple projects. 👍
What about that VCR fluctuating streaks effect wich is hard to figure out since it can boost vhs style footage to make it look more organic like used tape from a pawn shop.
Thank you! Really helpful. And in static it's all good. But the way objects/people are moving reveals that is just an effect. So for a mockumentary project I choose to use a real old one Hi8 camcorder)
On black colors and slightly on people of color the white sheen was way too strong (almost like a white cloud) but all I did was deactivate the second brightness and contrast and it was much better.
Can the final layer of noise and scratches you downloaded affect the video? I mean, what if i really want to achieve "damage" to get more of a convince take at the VHS effect?? thanks!
Really great tutorial. However, this look is great for recreating old home movies from camcorders. I was making a video montage of 80s movies to play on an old CRT TV, and this effect really was blown out on those clips and didnt really create the VHS look as if you bought an old Jurrassic Park VHS. Like I said though, this is perfect for the home movie effect.
Thanks, good video. Although It seems to me that the emboss effects really made my footage really grey. is there a way to get that effect on the edges, without the whole image being greyed out?
question, if a preset adds a crop, but the clip already has a crop, is there a setting that can make the preset delete already installed crops? because otherwise i need to delete the other, dated, crop manually and it adds more steps, time, and human error to the process.

Bless you for sharing the written version, I find it easier and faster to re-create from a written source.

it took me 3 hours to render haha .. jesus christ
Yikes. I hate rendering too.
Skip the last few effects, they contribute minimally and take an enormous toll on rendering time :/
