  • Thanks for watching this quick week four laminectomy recovery update video. I wanted to do a quick video to let others know how I am feeling and how things are progressing so far now that I am at week four from having a laminectomy performed.
Over the course of the last couple of weeks, physically I feel really good. Lower back pain and stiffness is almost gone. My flexibility in my lower back and hips has greatly improved.
I have been riding my indoor trainer for the past two to three weeks and I have been feel really good - adding mileage and elevation to the training sessions. I also have been able to start doing yardwork without much discomfort.
I will be participating in a fundraising cycling event called Tour De Cure on May 5, 2024. If you feel like donating, you may do so here tour-diabetes.donordrive.com/...
I got to watch my son Zach compete at a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament and I am super proud of him!

Just a quick update regarding my recovery from a L3, L4, & L5 laminectomy. Things are much better as compared to a few weeks ago.
Its been great getting some good feedback on the previous videos I have posted regarding the laminectomy procedure.
Are you dealing with stenosis? Will you be having a laminectomy to help with any lower back pain or tingling in your legs? Looking for info on how other are dealing with recovery? Let me know in the comments :)

Thank You for this ongoing documentation of your journey post laminectomy. I am scheduled for L3, 4, 5, S1 laminectomy without fusion (NFW!) in a little over a month. Your video and the comments have helped me to get a good idea as to what to expect and plan for my preparation and recovery.

Thanks for video. I had my laminectomy April 9 and I’m feeling way better. My pain down my right leg is gone. I still feel some soreness and alittle pain on my right lower back but seems to be going away. Just came back from chiropractor and had alittle adjustment which made a big difference. Everyday gets better and better. Can’t wait to be completely pain free from that area. One thing I started doing which helped a lot but surgery was already scheduled, was me going on a carnivore diet. Hopefully here soon I can leave that pain in the past. God bless your son!

I thought about getting an adjustment but I'm thinking it may be more problematic at the moment, or I'm just being paranoid 😆. I have thought about doing carnivore since it seems to be working for a lot of people..

I felt tense up and that’s what I needed. In regards to carnivore diet I highly recommend it! Start by watching Anthony Chaffee videos.

I'm so happy for you and your son. Xxx
As far as bike ride goes, do what you can, if you can't finish, it's ok. If you do that's awesome. I'll be thinking of you.
    Quick questions.
Are you back to driving? If so when did you get back behind the wheel? My physio said as soon as I can do an emergency stop without pain or discomfort, then i can drive again. I drive a manual in the UK. I'm not even trying it for another few days at least. Xxx
Your videos are an inspiration to me. Xxx

Thank you for the comment! My son's definitely a trooper. I'm very proud of him. In regards to riding, I've been doing 240-280 km a week for the last three weeks. I'm pretty confident I'll be good to go for the upcoming fundraiser ride. In regards to driving, I'm guessing it was about 5-6 days post op. I just drove small distances for the first couple of rides. It was uncomfortable but doable. The second & third weeks the discomfort went away but that hard spot persisted for about another week.

I am 22 years old and an ER visit led to finding out I have a tumor in my spinal cord (ependymoma). I will be having a laminectomy this Wednesday for the doctor to access and remove the tumor. It's all happened very suddenly and I'm feeling very overwhelmed.

Hello My Good Man. First of All I'm Glad You're Doing Better. 2nd Thanks for uploading the Videos. I hate that your son has endured cancer and I hope he's in remission 🙏🏼. I'm actually a Renal Cancer Survivor Myself. I'm 15yrs of remission. In fact I'm pretty sure the surgery that i had, which was a partial nephrectomy is what led to my lumbar spinal stenosis at my L4-L5,S1... I'm scheduled for a Laminectomy & Foraminotomy On May 24, 2024To Remove the Bone Spurs That Is Putting Pressure On My Nerves Which Is Causing Me Back & Leg Pain. My Questions are How Soon Did You Start To Feel Relief From The Pain. And How Did You lay in bed 🛏️ The First Week Of your Surgery. I have a hiatal hernia , Therefore I have To Lay Prompt Up Always On My Back so that my Stomach Doesn't Slide Through my diaphragm causing acid reflux. And I'm Imagining That I Wouldn't Be Able To Ly On My Back After Surgery.

Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. My son is doing great! Living and loving life. I started to feel relief almost instantly. The pain & tingling in legs and feet were gone right away. I normally sleep on my left side and that wasn't an issue when sleeping. Laying on my back wasn't an issue either, other than the blood that made it's way through the bandages and onto the sheets. The only time I had any discomfort was sitting for more than 15-20 minutes, that was for the first ten days or so. Going into week three post op I really started to feel WAY better.
Good luck on your surgery and recovery. And congrats on 15 years in remission. F*** Cancer

Hey Michael, thank you very much for posting your experience. I’m a 45-year-old adult male who has been very physically active and in great shape my whole life I’m 185 pounds and very muscular. I’ve had this pain in my back for 20 years, I had the same surgery you did. I’m on week three and I have a big bulging Area where my incisions is, it feels like it’s filled with fluid and the sciatic pain has come back. I’m very scared. Do you have any suggestions or advice? Thank Nick

    • @mikebaltierra
      @mikebaltierra  Месяц назад

I had something very similar, the bulging on the incision and the sciatica pain. Both the fluid filled bulging and sciatica pain started to go away at around week 3. By week 4 it was much better, without any pain in my right buttocks or leg. At this moment the bulging is pretty much gone. I suggest being patient. Have you had any post surgery follow-up appointments? At my three week post op, the PA mentioned that this was normal.
