I never noticed your singing as I don’t mind admitting I was a bit shocked when you said you were born in the same year this song was released !! I honestly thought you were a child of the 90’s 😮
This song was almost never written. It was written as a poem by Anthony Kiedis. Producer Rick Rubin asked if there was anything he was working on and eventually was shown the poem. He told Anthony "That's your best song".
This is a great song. I almost died from drugs when I was younger. Was in Coma for a while. Been clean ever since. On a lighter note, you need to check out the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chad Smith vs Will Ferrell (Yes, the actor) drum off.
A lot of the best songs are the ones that almost never happened...a lot of the time those songs were about an artist baring their absolute souls. I think when this song dropped, the rock world kinda stopped breathing for just a second...the moment was so stunning, not only because it was a little different for them sonically, but for Anthony to come out and share that story...it took a lot of courage. I think a lot of people have a bridge moment (that doesn't necessarily have to do with drugs), so the song resonated. Still does. Always will.
FYI - the bassist (Flea) and drummer (Chad Smith) are at the top of the "best" lists on their instruments. And dude, I can't sing worth a crap, but I sure do like to try. Go for it.
When this video was constantly played on MTV in the Early 90s I was only 3 years old but I still remember always seeing it, and that's what made the red hot chil peppers my favorite band and I'm 32 now.
The intricacy of the guitar, bass, and drums is actually pretty mind-blowing. Try listening to the bass in isolation. When a bass line isn't "intricate", it means that it's just playing roots and fifths of chords for the whole song. Not the case with Flea's INCREDIBLY intricate line. The guitar and drums have just as much nuance going on as well. They lyrics are great, sure, but this is a track for a musician's musician, not just a moving and personal lyric.
I remember this Record very good because my Girlfriend did listen to it when it came out. I liked most of Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Under the Bridge always gave me an Understanding of the Mindset of an drug addict that I could use later as a Cop... "Breaking the Girl" from the same Album is another Gem...
I am so happy I found your channel. I enjoy watching you react to song especially ones that are near and dear to my ❤. This song is Iconic. It will hit you right in the face with it’s honesty and sadness.
What's hard to appreciate in hindsight was just how different this sound was to what was being played at the time. You grew up with music derived from this (and similar songs) but it really was a unique sound for its time. At the time, rock sounded like Def Leopard, Guns n Roses, or metal like Metallica. He almost raps. "take me to the place I love" which was very different. For reference check out what late 80's rap sounded like, it was pre-gangster rap.
Red hot chili peppers has over250 songs since 1982 here are some good ones - 1.Other Side 2. Snow 3.Scar Tissue 4.cant Stop 5. Give it Away 6. The Zephyr Song. All AWESOME songs. Your doing a great job.
Most of the meaning is packed into that last stanza: Under the bridge downtown, is where I drew some blood Under the bridge downtown, I could not get enough Under the bridge downtown, forgot about my love Under the Bridge downtown, I threw my life away. This is talking about heroin addiction. He wrote this after he got sober and felt like the only friend he had left was the city of LA since all his old friends were still getting high.
You should check out RHCP "Californication" live at Slane Castle. Make sure it's the one with the jam session at the beginning!!! Killer video!!🎵🎼🎶🥁🎤🎙🎸🎹🔥🔥🤘🤘
I like the Chlipeppers in general, but would not play whole albums like other bands like Zepplin, Yes, or The Guess Who. I have been known to play this at bars on the jukebox. My first juke play is always "Use Me" by Bill Withers. I also enjoy BEP & mix them with classic Rock & R&B. Chilipeppers & Guns N Roses are usually individual songs, not whole albums for me.
So you have myopic and limited taste is what you want everybody to know, lol. Led Zepplin, Yes, and The Guess Who are all fantastic, but it's idiotic to imply that liking them excludes the mere possibility of RHCP having terrific full albums. Maybe read some books and try to mature a little, and approach music with a more open mind. Grow up a little. Good luck.
@@jodij6280 You can't be serious. USE YOUR FRIGGIN' EARS! They're the same f**king chords! You need to be TOLD by the INTERNET???!!!! Unbelievable how dumbed down people have gotten. THEY'RE THE SAME CHORDS! IN THE SAME EXACT RHYTHM! That's a ripoff! Musicians have been saying that since the week it came out! Holy moly, you've got it BAD. What a sycophant.
Pardon my crappy singing as I try and learn the lyrics lol, but I was feeling it, so you must bear my bad voice.

You keep on singing. I freaking love it!

This is my favorite by them too, so raw and visceral. Anthony must have had some good catharsis by putting this into the world
I saw them in concert last week & they still sound AWESOME!!!! Took me right back to my high school days. Always love your reactions.

“AND I DONT EVER WANNA FEEEEEELL, LIKE I DID THAT DAY!” “TAKE ME TO THE PLACE I LOOOOOOOVE, TAKE ME ALL THE WAY!”
From just the first few bites in the opening chords, I knew I was going to love this song.
And as I listened, it just kept getting better….
Used to sing this to my lonely self as I walked home late nights my first college year. Thankfully things got better :D

Beautifully stated ❤️🔥🙏
Bless everyone who got off drugs and everyone who will.

Definitely a great song which has become a classic for The Red Hot Chili Peppers

Everybody could relate to the lyrics if they are being honest with themselves

Thank you so much for the red hot chili peppers ... so many great songs.

YEEESSSS!!!! 💯🎯
Another introspective song by them that’s good is My Friends
Another incredibly potent song of theirs that i feel is woefully underappreciated and ignored by too many recent converts is 'Knock Me Down.'
This is Keidis's introspective look at his own heroin addiction.
This song refers to a time and place where Anthony used to shoot heroin.
So glad to hear this group.
This brings me back! Whoo!! great band!
You need to check out anything off their "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" album. Brilliant Album. Have a great day :)
Love it! ❤️
my fave RHCP song! ♥

Praying you realized the close captioning transcribing the lyrics as "sometimes I pee like my older friend" is incorrect.
🤣
😂
Now, I’m gonna have to sing it that way from now on! 😛
One of the best albums ever made.
💯 friend, it's a perfect mix of rock, rawness and vibe
@@believer773 Mother's Milk wasn't anything to sneeze at either. Great album.
@@randybaker6042 mother's milk was my favorite for almost the entire 90s
This is my favorite RHCP song. It's mellow and melancholy, not really like any of their other songs.

"Don't forget me" live is insane
love the Chili Peppers....great video.
Great song. Love to sing this when I do karaoke. My favorite from RHCP is Soul to Squeeze. Hope you can check that one out someday.
Mine too!! ❤
Who Are You from The Who is SOOO good i know you'll love it
Nobody can beat Flea's epic baselines ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
@3:50 "sometimes i pee like my older friend". Lmfao
Reading another comment, I agree that you might enjoy "Californication", and I would also tack on the recommendation of "Dani California".
Havent seen them anywhere on reactions.
Great reaction.

He was addicted to heroin and wrote this song when he quit.
A must see video - Greatful Dead - A touch of Grey. Video please !
I could of lied off blood sugar sex magic is one of the best songs of the chillis
More RHCP Reviews please.
Thanks.
I associate this song with the LA riots. We know it wasnt written about it but it just fit.

Songs about ENDONG ONE'S LOFE!
Supposedly doing his drugs under the bridge.
Otherside is good too
I recommend pink floyd and the rolling stones.
thanks for torturing my ears
Good tune, great chorus..... though it would have been a lot cooler if they hadn't ripped off "Beast Of Burden" for the verses. 😆
Two songs that sound somewhat vaguely familiar. Couldn't find anything online that says they ripped it off.
