Billy Strings performs "Freeborn Man" on 11/16/21 at the State Theater in Portland, ME. Brought to you by Less Than Face Productions. Audio by Casey C.
@@nuller9918 That's a good performance and BS is definitely the man at the moment. Can't wait to see him live. But to me, there's no comparison to having a stage with Tony Rice, Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas etc...I mean, those guys are icons. That link to me is probably Billy's best version of this song for sure. This one is my favorite of all time. ruclips.net/video/rVl1ibykWZU/видео.html
@@nuller9918 Absolutely. I definitely agree with you that they're about even. Billy along with Bryan Sutton was awesome. I just saw Tommy Emmanuel here in Dallas a month or so ago, and next on my list is Billy Strings. His shows look amazing. You are so right about how tight BS and his band are it's crazy. Every performance I've seen, whether they are playing inside, or in a studio, or outside at a festival somewhere, their sound is amazing.
the song always makes me think of the Outlaws; which was the first time I ever heard it way back in the '70s and didn't even realize it was derived from a folk tune...
❤️ Billy my step dad and my musical inspiration, long time country swing bass playing expert NEVER did a gig where he did not play this tune. He always said before he played some of those honky tonks “heres a Mark Lindsay song”
I’ve known him for almost 6 years now and he’s not changed much at all, he’s very humble and appreciative of the fame he’s gained. Going to see him on new year’s in Grand Rapids can’t wait to hang out with him!
"I got me a worn-out guitar I carry an old tote sack I hocked it about two hundred times But I always get it back" Wondering if Billy intentionally left out/ changed this original verse because of the story with his Dad's Martin?
Shit I wish I had known that he was coming here..😠 this guy is some serious talent. I started listening to him regularly bour 2yrs ago. Garden music 😤😎
Agreed. They definitely looked like they were just "phoning" it in on this performance. I've seen them play elsewhere, and the energy was definitely lacking...and not just energy, enjoyment as well.
Virtuosity only begins to describe these musicians.
I bet Tony was smiling down at this performance. Just brilliant 🤩
Good pickin right there!!! Wow! Good tribute to Keith Allison & Mark Lindsay, the original's of "Freeborn Man"... 💋😊 ❤ Not bad for two ex Raiders!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
They're all amazing but the mando player... Jesus fucking christ
Best band in the world right now.
100%
Strings is one of the greats IMO, but he also has some kick ass pickers with him
He’s the greatest of all time.
Recently saw them at the Fillmore in Detroit. They don’t the need the light show
Quick, get some oxygen! Just took my breath away.
he sounds like bela fleck on this recording. influences come from every direction. but if you play with bela, you will play like him too.
I like this. Besides the Mark Lindsay version, this is the best of all the versions, that I've heard. I like the guitar work.
Billy is the most exciting thing to hit Bluegrass in awhile.
Its the most exciting thing to hit this planet in awhile…
The most exciting thing…period.
Lifted me right up, brilliant cheers ✌️😁👍🙏🤠😁
Love Jimmy Martin and Tony Rice doing this song. Feels like it was definitely made for Billy Strings too
outlaws and billy the only ones who can touch this
The Ossum Possum band did a ripping version- lived it !
Early 90s , last of the real freewheeling days !
Junior Brown did a very good version as well.
And so did Tony Rice....
Everyone but the stand up bass gets a solo... Tough life
Bass does too.
Awesome 👌
Well, they done did it again!
He the only artist I’ve been excited about in years.
Hell yeah, just what I needed tonight.
These guys are going places number 1 Ireland forget all the other places
What?
Are you German WHAT did u say
Who is Jay
I just didn't understand what you mean about Ireland lol
Would love to see them come to Vicar Street or the Olympia
Gotta be one of the greatest songs of bluegrass . Not as good as Tony Rice and his All Stars , though .
Outlaws tune
Yeah...that was the heavy hitters of the day....kinda like the the best of the best of the best of the best all on one stage lol.

You're wrong man, you may prefer the Tony Rice version but they're so different they don't compare.

An old man who I jammed with once told me, (that was some fancy fishing you did there)! The same thing can be said here!!
What does fancy fishing mean
@@shreddykrueger3776 fancy fishing= good picking
Told us something we don't already know!
Oh brother where art thou
Max Ostro and Billy Strings collab would explode the internets and many minds
Jimmy Martin would be proud
DAMN! Jarrod burned it up!!
Nice
Wow the future looks good!
I hope fame doesn't change him for the worst, as I have seen before. He is so good and natural. I've been watching him for years.

Tony Rice Jr

Ben, he historically changes up this verse..."I play this Thompson guitar..."

This kid is great but he aint no Tony Rice.
There will never be anyone like Tony again
Why compare the two? Billy is great in his own respect
Stop comparing. Apples and oranges pal!
Cheap rip off from Dan Tyminski
They look tired of this

@@coryCuc right they just need a break, but this new album is killing them. I don’t blame them🤷♂️ they’ll get back to it, they just need a break.
Tony Rice’s version is far better
Lol you’re listening to the wrong version, they look so tired of this.
Disagree
His voice is very nauseating great guitar horrible voice 😢 😞 😕 😔 💔 😭 😢 😞
