I am 68, been a bluegrass fan most all of my life, Never thought there would ever be anyone else like Doc Watson, but then I herd Billy. First time I herd him he was very young, This Young man will be a force for many years, not only because he can really pick, but because he is a good person.
I am 74 years old and just happened to come across this young man.He is simply my number one music man.I,ve listened to blue grass most of my life and this young man takes the cake.I think he will be around for along time.Kudos Billy Strings.❤️
These comments seem to be from older people. His music is timeless and ageless. He is the best “picker “ ever. Growing up outside of Nashville, the Grand ole opera was the music of my soul. I’m older than most, but, I appreciate Billy Strings!
I am 72 and love music especially from the 60s. And then I heard Billy. Wow!! So now he is all I want to listen to. He is exceptionally talented. Also a genius. Thank God I have lived long enough to hear his music.
I am 70 years old. I feel blessed it's billions carrying on traditional music, with respect with the ones that pics with, I love it with his dad singing and. Playing guitar is the tops. I just got through watching Earl Scruggs and Doç Wason and Ricky Skaggs
Growing up in North Carolina and having family up in Wilkes Doc Watson was a staple in our house. What Billy has done to honor him is beyond belief and simply awesome. We are seeing another legend right before our eyes and ears.
Fellow Carolina guy here! Dad used to play Doc when I was just a kid. Had an opportunity to see Doc, but missed the show. Once I found Billy I instantly knew he was Doc reincarnated. I have seen Billy 3 times now and this kid amazes me each time. He has shown so much respect to Blue Brass and honors The Doc. What a gift we have to enjoy this music!
Family is in SC now and grew up w the dead and other jambands but billy had become a major staple for us. So i respect doc and all for inspiring billy and terry cause if it werent for them they wouldnt be kickin ass bringin us great music! Also WSMFP BMFS
Also, He could’ve been famous like 10 years ago but he just doesn’t want to be. The industry sucks. But he’s been popular on RUclips for a long time and did the Opry a few years ago
@@D.F317 4-5 years ago you could see him in rooms with maybe 100 people. He's blown up faster than any artist I've ever witnessed in any genre. And, thats even with over a year with basically no in person live performances. Pretty amazing.
@@toddish10 4+ years ago, i saw them at a free local festival in chicagoland... that was my first in-person exposure and i was blown away.... the days of a BMFS free show are long gone..........
Great comment I didn’t know his music until a few months ago and this kid is the nominal phenomenal. He plays anything with anybody seems so genuine I would do a lot to go see a live show. Just listen to his version of ramble on and everyone does everyone was in their Lord of the rings outfits and then I saw it was Halloween. I’ve never been to Asheville but I’d like to.😊
An old soul, like he was born a 55 year old virtuoso. I know as a life long guitarist his talent comes from thousands of hours of hard work. But I feel like I could be immortal and never come close to his abilities

So glad to see Billy bring this great music to the next generation, Are true musicians never get the recognition they deserve, you won't here them on mainstream radio or see them on TV. He pays tribute to Doc Watson, Tony Rice and many other greats that one in ten Americans know who they are
And one odd thing is, how many devotees of Billy's overlook or fail to mention .... That VOICE! Unique, young yet soulful, commands attention, perfect timbre, (that of a singer many many years his elder!) Never even a microscopic but outta tune, just all around exceptional and pleasing & satisfying to all who listen ....
Not lost on this guy at all. Best all around artist I've heard in my lifetime. Period. Guitar, song writing, singing. Not necessarily in that or any order! Cheers PS in 50% older than bill the Thrill (I'll let you do the math)
Saw him in Indy last summer but missed this one for Hippy Hill down at Bill Monroe Park. Of course he rips a legendary solo set. Love how he always brings Doc and Stanley Bros on tour. Can’t wait for him to tour with his dad Terry someday, the Traverse City show here on youtube with his dad is the best thing ever.
Perfect sentiment my dear Deadhead friend! I never did follow her around like a true deadhead but I’m telling you even at our age I might follow this kid around lol
I've seen him twice this year. Augusta GA and St. Augustine. Going to see him in September again at the Outlaw music festival. I've been blown away since his first RUclips video a few years ago. Amazing talent and fantastic in concert. His whole band is amazing. It's like a bluegrass, widespread panic, grateful dead, phish concert all in one. I hope he doesn't burn himself out but I'll be looking forward to seeing him for years to come.
I have no idea how old he is still looks like a total baby. Saw a video with him playing with his dad so he must’ve grown up in the bluegrass and has a talent that could knock your socks off. Seems so genuine I think he likes to pick that guitar
I love the Black Mtn Rag. The version that opens the Pickin' For Merle episodes that were on PBS (NC anyway) is killer. Billy's is good too. The Pickin' For Merle episodes were filmed at the 1992 Merlefest as I recall. Oh, and Randall Collins. Norman Blake at his best. Plus the Cuckoo. It seems like I've heard Peter Rowan do this song many times. Great each time.
Billy is Doc Watson, Chet Atkins, Roy Clark, Jerry reid, and alot of others, rolled into one.He was placed here on earth,by God,to continue on the bluegrass legacy.
I’ve already watched this 6 times. THIS is what I was hoping for in Lousiville. I think it was just too damn hot outside, instruments were all wonky from the heat and humidity. Man, kicking myself for not buying Indy tix now. This show would have been AMAZING to see live. Good thing we got fans like you out there covering for us!! 🙏🏼🤛🏼✌🏽
Me too, it was still a great show in Louisville, but I thought the energy from the band was a tad low/off...but it was so hot and muggy. Also thought the acoustics in the Ampitheater and the sound mix were off...I wanted to hear the guitar featured more prominently and it got buried in the 4 other instruments sometimes. Man I would of loved to have seen this beautiful solo acoustic set done in Louisville! I was at the Sat and Sun shows in Louisville...which night(s) were you there?
Show was absolutely sick!! I couldn't have been too far behind you Doug! Can't wait to see him again. Got Turnpike Troubarours & Willie next weekend. Thanks for uploading man!
The stage hand that came out near the end of the set and gave him the banjo and carried off his guitar had to use an oven mitt to handle the guitar after Billy played it.
Many years ago in the 70s, I met Doc and Merle passing through Toronto Canada. They told me they would be back in town on the return portion of their tour and I was fortunate enough to catch them playing at Toronto’s harbourfront. I also caught JD Crowe and the New South. My next music Bucket list would be to catch Billy playing with Tommy Emmanuel! Let’s hope it happens. Billy is a star!
He sure doesn’t look like the voice that comes out of him...which is great. He also plays to perfection, hardly ever messing up. That being said, the dude fucking gifted beyond most for sure. Good video!
We got so lucky that night I love this gentleman the way he blends new and old is seemless

Tony Rice too! This guy is fantastic
If Mark Twain played instead of wrote, he'd still not be as gifted as Billy Strings.💚😇
He's also a great singer with a rich voice.
Y’all are correct. I’m 60 and a few years back when I first heard Billy, my first thought was Tony Rice can rest at night now..
Doc played much cleaner... Every note clear.

I still come back to this to relive that night. Best damn show ive seen in 25 years.
Incredibly talented, unpretentious and genuine. Billy plays with as much joy as we receive it. Love you man.
I'm 65 and never really have done bluegrass even though I am a music dude. Billy has totally flipped me and made me appreciate the art. I love it.
Same here!
First there was Jerry
Then there was Billy

Second comment on this thread, but this is spiritual music. Rarely ever listen to anything that makes me this happy. So special.
Jerry is up in heaven looking down jealous he didn't get to play with Billy the kid.

So good. Just him, no flashing lights, his hair blowing in the wind, and some great music!
Amazingly talented. Spending his youth wisely. He's a phenom for sure. Good on BillyStrings. Blow it up! You're awesome!

Best picker and hell of an entertainer !!👍

Is it humanly possible to be better than Billy Strings? I can’t imagine so.
Not lately , but . . . Jerry , Doc , Rice , Jimi ,Blackmore . not so much better but elite to be included in the same breath .
