Just bought the Quest 3 week ago. Super fun and easy to use. The mixed reality is really nice, and people complain about the quality but for me is good enough to have fun ~
Same. The Quest 3 is amazing at it's price point. I am really enjoying the headset. In the early days of VR I bought the original HTC vive on launch day. The Quest 3 makes that old headset feel like an antique.
Yeah, I think the apple Vr will on drive the sales of the Quest 3 more as you can a good experince of AR (plus games) for a fraction of the cost of the apple device.
I love this discussion about mixed reality and function. I've always thought it would be amazing to have safety glasses, which I wear all day being a machinist, that could recognize screw sizes to 2x4 lengths to electric wire gauge thickness. Alot of time would be saved not looking for the right wrench anymore and it's mandatory to wear safety glasses anyways, so might as well make them functional. If I were a mixed reality developer I would definitely look into this. Millions of workers world wide could use it if it's done well
HMDs designed to assist service techs out in the field have existed for years now. They are much smaller and look more like Google Glass than Apple Vision Pro. Finding one using safety glass and the software specifically for your needs could easily exist. The tech media wouldn't cover it though, just like they never cover the AR glasses for field techs I mentioned.
Really appreciated you sharing about the fitness utilities and your personal experience. I'm so sorry you went through that - more power to you for taking it on 💪. All the very best with it. I've started a healthier routine myself and can relate.
The advantage that Apple vision pro has is that it already has familiar iOS user-interface/features and a huge library of apps that will be optimized for vision pro.
While the disadvantage is the fact that its $3500. Meta Quest may be the lesser quality in some aspects, but ultimately the extremely cheap entry point makes it the most viable for the average joe. This allows meta to work on refinements to their software (which is just android btw) by leaps and bounds thanks to all the feedback they already have. Apple would've been smart to go cheaper in price.. seeing as they make billions from iphone sales every year.
Enjoying your coverage of VR/AR devices! It is going to be an exciting year for this technology. Also, best of luck with your health issues. Exercise in VR is awesome 👍🏽
Fantastic video! Very sorry to hear you had high blood pressure. So glad you got fit with VR. Please keep taking good care of yourself. 💙You are my favorite person who covers VR/MR/AI (and I watch a lot of them). I remember when you first did the video about the Oculus Quest that demonstrated the Guardian, and I was blown away. We got our Quests on the first day it came out and went to Central Park to play virtual ping pong and tennis, and I was convinced the park would be filled with people doing the same thing, but we were the only ones! 😊
In my view its because of multiple reasons, back then Microsoft simply dint have the compute power necessary to run apps smoothly and Microsoft hololens dint have enough fov to immerse the user. And hololens display crispness was simply not good enough to read small texts... Now apple learned from Microsoft and others mistakes and they waited patiently to create apple vision pro. Definitely it will be a huge buzz amoung the tech world.
Congratulations on your fitness regimen! Supernatural is excellent and I’ve been using it along with my wife for a couple of years now to stay in shape. What I’m wondering is: has Apple announced any plans (either officially or “unofficially“) to bring something like Apple Fitness+ to the Vision Pro? it seems like a no-brainer so I’m amazed they haven’t commented. Or are they seriously going to omit Fitness because they feel like the headsets too heavy? It’s actually lighter than the Quest 3 (something people don’t seem to realize with all the talk of how heavy the Vision Pro is) which I use all the time for this purpose…
Just got the Quest 3 it's a breakthrough device. Battery life is bad though. The passthrough is low quality but works for moving around your room without running into anything.
you could get a boboVR strap, best strap I think out there for quest 3 and doubles the battery life. The official strap with battery is way more expensive and not as comfy. And if you have crazy need for more than 4 hours you can buy extra batteries and just swap them live while the headset is on for another 2 hours.
well it would be nice to have the deluxe strap included with battery out of the box but I do appreciate Meta are pretty much losing money on the headset as it is getting it down to a cost where more people can buy into it. They cut a lot of corners like eye tracking that i believe is an empty space inside the headset ready for that part, just pulled late on to get that cost down. The addons are way too expensive but i think that's where they're trying to grab some money back lol@@estusflask982
Yes, I'm really curious what the 3D, Virtual Reality, spatial computing VERSION of Instagram/TikTok/Facebook will be like. I don't think it's the giant world where you walk around to everything. It's got to have that quick, scrolling through "reels" feel still. Time will tell, I guess. But it's just a matter of time until there's a true social media "killer app" in VR that drives mainstream adoption.
Something people are forgetting is a lot of business travelers pay $3000+ for business class seating on an airline. I'm tempted to grab one of these and scale back my seat selection on airplanes. With one to two flights I'll save enough to justify the Apple Vision.
bit surprised no mention of the huge uevr advancement on the meta/pcvr vr gaming side, separately not alot of mention about all the interesting (or quirky) celerity based assistant personalities coming to a fleet of meta devices in the near future. I think those points are good to cover for early 2024!
Let me tell you people, I've had the Quest 3 since launch because I wanted a TV/computer display and it's just not good enough yet. Let's say you want to use the internet connected to your laptop/pc, well first you have to use a dedicated router on your computer, then you have to run the program to connect to an app like virtual desktop, then you need to clean the lenses of the Quest 3, you have to put it on and adjust it, then you have to connect to the dedicated router, then you have to launch virtual desktop, then you wait a minute until it connects, then you realize that you can't find your physical mouse so you have to go to passthrough mode to find it on your desk, then you have to go into settings and adjust the resolution to fit whatever display you're using. Then good luck taking a sip of your coffee because not only can you not see it, but the cup will hit the Quest as you try to take a sip. After a few minutes, the lenses will become less clear and a little foggy, you'll adjust it up and down constantly. It's just not a great experience. VR games, on the other hand are absolutely awesome.
Is this some kind of joke? For every new device, there are some cumbersome initial setup that are required but after that, it is more or less smooth sailing. I have Quest 3 and what is so "big deal" about putting your headset on and clicking Virtual Desktop? Do you have to change IP configuration for your dedicated network every time? Every apps and games require several seconds to load up, you drink hot coffee and obviously, your whatever display/lens will fog up, you need to clean your lens once in a while, and so on. How will Apple solve this issue? In fact, my biggest gripe about VR headset, as many others share the same sentiment, it is too freaking heavy and become uncomfortable after a while. Apple, instead of addressing this issue, is making the matter worse by adding the weight.
@topstorekorea it's not a joke. It's my real experience. I'm not saying it's terrible though but it isn't quite as seamless as just using a regular monitor.
Oldster not even much into gaming with a Quest 2. I so definitely want VR/AR to really take off. Definitely into Supernatural and the fitness and movement aspects of it.
I wish Apple could release a budget friendly, lower priced VR headset that doesn’t contain an internal computer, but can simply connect to my MacBook and iPhone and act as a virtual VR external monitor
I'm glad Apple is getting into VR/AR. I would, however, question Apple's pricing. $3500.00 is pretty steep for tech that has already existed for at least a decade. The only difference is that the headset will have an apple logo on it. There are already commercial grade headsets available for less that their price, used in the defense and design industries. On the consumer side, the de facto standard right now is the Quest 3 that only costs $499.00. The more big tech companies who enter the market, the better. I just question whether or not Apple actually understands the current AR/VR market.
Somehow Apple is the only company that can sell a VR/AR device with the gaming stigma completey removed, with a heavy focus on content viewing and productivity. Meanwhile Meta is utilizing gaming appeal, selling cheap, and working on the productivity aspect in the background. They are both going for the same things, only Apple already has an empire of tech fans, while meta is just hurling all their money into R&D for this tech specifically.
One of the problems with Apple's approach is AR/VR media consumption isn't new or unique to the Vision Pro. Folks have been watching movies via an HMD since the 90s with Sony's glasstron headsets, then with Samsung Gear VR in the 2010s , and currently with Mets Quest devices. Big Screen VR even offers a social and communal aspect to content consumption that Apple hasn't even addressed yet.
Isn’t the fitness stuff in vr sweaty? I tried vr exercise once years ago and the headset got uncomfortably sweaty and hot. Are the new headsets better for that?
The quest 3 has improved ventilation, heavily reducing fog up, if not completely stopping it. Also you can get a sweat proof face pad thats easy to clean to keep it more sanitary.
Here's hoping you have a year of health! With regard to the topic at hand, you simply do not need VR or AR to be fit. Or walk. So all the power to them to try to create a problem to solve with this product, but there is a good chance that it will fail in that regard. I am still waiting for a compelling reason to buy yet another screen.
Its use case is that these devices are supplemental to a wide range of things. You argue you dont need it to exercise, fair. But then there are people using the product to exercise, or add it in to their routines. Say youre an xbox gamer, with the xbox cloud app on quest you get to play xbox anywhere you want with a what is basically a portable TV. And in the digital domain the future most often has become the present much quicker than anticipated: So, like with the phones, it will be an Apple OS against Android - there will probably be no winner, just two different ecosystems... or Chinas!
It’s embarrassing the priority CNET gives to vision pro when it hasn’t launched yet and you guys are admitting is all you have seen is 3 demos with some prototypes. It stinks to paid review TBH
We are fast approaching an era of real-time A.I.-generated imagery, completely sidestepping 3D modeling, animation and rendering. And it looks like character and scene stability/consistency are almost completely solved now.
Once again like so many other youtubers, the background music is completely unnessecary and distracting. Why can't youtubers understand it's a stupid idea to put music on a video, when all they do, is sit and talk about something??
This kind of shows that there’s no vision at meta. They already shifted away from the metaverse and if apple takes over their lead in the market, it would be so difficult to keep supporting them.
Apple literally will not take the lead. The quest has strong lead, that will probably be made even stronger when people realize that they dont have to pay $3500 to get a VR movie theater experience. You cant even buy an apple vision outside of an apple store.
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182Heh. Apple has developed a full fledged platform that integrates perfectly with their ecosystem. It has a “magical” and “borderline telepathic” eye and hand tracking UX according to those who’ve used it. It has thousands of little details that make elements feel realistically integrated into your environment, like shadows from app windows and AR objects onto your furniture, “ray tracing” Spatial Audio for realistic acoustics for your room, a display so passthrough looks almost like looking through glass, a lenticular display to project a live depiction your eyes in 3D to people around you… We’ll see if Meta can catch up to the hardware by the time Vision products’ price comes down enough to hit a broad consumer market. But if the tech journalist reactions are any indication, once people try this they will be shelling out as much as they can afford to get one.
I suggest that you watch Zuckerburgs reaction on the Lex Friedman podcast. He literally outlines how their vision is at contrast with what Apple is doing.
Apple Vision Pro like the Apple Watch launch… Jack of trades but master of mine. Eventually, they will land on trends/features mostly being used and tailor it over time and split it into 2 categories. I for one would want it for social interactions and cinema mode. And stop eating crap.
What's a Quest? Nobody knows Meta sells hardware, just the US. Meta has no future in the market. Let's see what real hardware manufacturers have for us.
Real hardware manufacturers work with Meta, Qualcomm and Microsoft both have extensive partnerships them. Meanwhile, Meta generates infinite money for extreme levels of Research and Development. underestimating this company is really absurd at this point.
Well what if you disliked something about a break in and then your house got broken into? You would not even be able to see the burglar. What if their intentions were to hurt you? There needs to be a no filter rule inside our own homes. There may just need to be only one eye covered. You cannot expect me to throw away my safety. and I knew it would be Meta. The one social media platform that allows nudity and explicit content. That's why you can't delete the Meta files fully from your phone. I'm done. Bye.
