I'm impressed the guy lost so much time due to a major storm and was still able to more or less put out a competitive blade in time. Would have liked to see how he would have did with that extra day of work.

If the weight wasn't already going to make Joe lose, him admitting to handing in a warped/twisted blade was definitely going to. If a blade warps/twists during a test, they'll be disappointed. If you hand it in like that, they take it a bit more personally, and you could hear it in Dave's voice after he said that.
8 minutes of me being angry that they revealed that a blade shattered at the end, until the final swing, and then I re-read the title.

I've never heard the judge with long beard talking or doing anything except staring and I've watched a lot of episodes! what does he do??
the third judge (which has rotated three times throughout the shows history) usually does all of the testing during the earlier rounds of the show, so dave and doug do the testing on the final round. Later on the other judges do the strength test on occasion but in the earlier seasons the third judge only tested the knives made in the early rounds of the show.

Definitely the correct decision. Light, sharp, flexible.
I just can't help thinking the sword design is backwards, though.
the forward weight gives it more chopping power, and the forward spatulated head provides a rugged forward point which helps puncture into armor and into the person underneath rather than the whole length of the blade slashing across the surface of the armor. There is however a similarish weapon where the blade is similar in geometry but bent the opposite way, targeted at slashing unarmored or lightly armored targets, this help?
It's kinda more like an axe in its cutting form than a saber or broadsword

Imagine losing to a 5 degree bend at the gard
He lost as soon as Doug said his blade was heavier. The only way to win at that point was to have the other guy's blade break or severely underperform vs his, neither of which happened.

@@travisparsley4277 Didn't mean to roast you but it's just a thing with this show where the heavier blade almost always loses, even if it performs better than the lighter blade.
@@user-on6uf6om7s That depends , when they say heavy they almost always know the average historically accurate weight of the blade they're rebuilding, so if it's supposed to be a heavy weapon then it can definitely win.

The map that appears is a map of Indonesia and I am a native Dayak tribe from Indonesia, especially in West Borneo. get used to watching the video carefully. indeed I know a Dayak tribe, not only in Indonesia.

The strength test looked like a sharpness test. Slicing sugarcanes requires sharpness not strength.
I have pandat/tangki'tn at the pandat/tangki'tn house that is the Dayak Kanaya'nt traditional weapon for head hunting.

Pete's comment about laying on the floor made me think of what dad used to say when something tasted REALLY good, or he was super excited about something. Which was, "It makes me want to lie on the floor and make weird noises." Haha. I miss him so much. 😓💕
Seems like a horrible design for a sword
I read this right before it was unveiled. I cringed. Why do some cultures/people make such wacky curved/linearly curved swords? It looks very unbalanced, and the center of mass on that thing is probably not even on the sword as well.
And also, doug kept saying "It is forward heavy" well, yeah, the blade is a lot wider at the end, that is a sharp (ha) departure from something like European long swords.

Why would you turn in a blade with a bend? Even if you're not so sure how to fix it, there's a million sources online that'll give you every possible way to fix that problem, there really isn't an excuse for that I think
I like the bigger one better. He would have been better off putting the blade in a vise and slowly bending the blade. I like the machete blade profile and grind in his. Reminds me of my condor machete I used to have. Although personally the traditional blade shape isn't my favorite and I find it not efficient
