  • Economic growth on the African continent is expected to stall in 20 22, as it struggles to pick up momentum amid a slowdown in global economic activity, rising financial risks, high inflation, outbreaks of new coronavirus variants, and increasingly vulnerable debt levels.
    Despite these challenges, Africa’s 54 nations include some of the world’s fastest-growing economies and are home to some of the wealthiest countries in the world.
    With a GDP of 2.19 trillion US dollars, Africa’s 1.4 billion-person population is one of the most diverse continents on earth endowed with plenty of natural resources, and economic opportunities, and is a big market for consumer products.
    The African economy is projected to reach a GDP of 29 trillion US dollars by 20 50, making Africa the second-fastest-growing economy in the world after Asia.
    All these impressive numbers do bring a lot of questions to mind, with the biggest of them being: “what are the richest companies in Africa?”
    The African economy is a mix of trade, agriculture, and natural resources. All these come together to create an interesting mix of businesses spread across its 54 countries.
    As the African economy grows, some African companies have seen their value grow steadily over time, thereby ranking as the most valued in Africa.
    Companies that dominate Africa’s business landscape are flourishing, mostly driven by excellent strategy, top management, and well-placed investing.
    The most dynamic of them are showing impressive growth, with 400 African companies earning revenues of 1 billion dollars or more, according to McKinsey. Nearly 700 companies report revenues above 500 million dollars.

      PIC has the largest assets in the continent, it doesn't even have any competition. Not only most companies have tire's with PIC on JSE only but all across Africa and the globe. We must do all we can to protect PIC and keep lifting black South Africans into middle class, PIC is made up of more than 80% black South Africans and all this investment were made out of their hard work. What impressed me most was when PIC invested in We-Chat in 2011. Today the foundation is laid, there are many black South African companies and some are emerging. When I see this things happening, I honestly see the plan of the comrades of Mandela, they didn't want to accumulate quick wealth in their time like most African leaders but they both more time for us so that we put proper legal systems in place first so that when we accumulate wealth, it is already built on a stable foundation

It should interest you that despite all these Companies operating in South Africa, Nigeria is still richer than South Africa even though we have much bigger population of people to take care of. South Africa isn’t doing well recently . It’s a sleeping giant though . Give it 15 years from now then it will recover. We need more and aggressive investment into renewable energy , and desperately manufacturing . Also we investing heavily in ICT, we soon be having the biggest data centre in the continent based in Midrand . However there are African countries who are growing much better than South Africa .for now it’s not looking good.

    • @thenomad47

      South Africa at the moment is essentially what the USA was right before World War 2 happened, which is as you say, a sleeping giant. Too complacent in our safety and isolationism from the rest of the world and global events. The only thing South Africa needs for that titanic engine to start again, is one single spark.

      Nigeria will not catch up anytime soon, nor will you see other African countries making the list anytime soon, because South Africa is an upper middle class economy and highly industrialised, whilst Nigeria is a low middle class economy and more of an informal economy, so is most other African countries.

    • @windhouse
      @windhouse 2 года назад +4

      I think because South Africa is doing better than other African countries doesn't mean some other country won't catch up with them. You all should be really proud of your continent and try to think and live as one. Here in Europe you hardly hear this kinda stuff cause we know once it's good for your country other countries are some how benefiting too. Also I think Africa should create their own union or something like that, maybe something more stable and connected than the union they have now. I'm a big Africa fan btw ;)

    The mining industry in SA is controlled by companies and listed on stock exchange.
    In Nigeria, mining is solely govt venture. No stock exchange listing, no privatisation, no public shareholders.
    That's where the country's problems lie.

    • @Gold-lv5ih
      @Gold-lv5ih Год назад +2

      False. The only government solid mineral mining corporation in Nigeria is years long defunct. I.e. Nigeria Mining Company (NMC). The current existing mining company with some government holding is NLNG with 49% owned by NNPC which is a government agency. (Note that NNPC is going private). Though NLNG deals with natural gas and not solid minerals. If NLNG was on this list, it'll be in the top 5 as its value is about $20 billion. Mining activities in Nigeria are carried out mainly by private companies. However, the solid mineral mining sector in Nigeria is yet to develop. Even though desktop studies show that Nigeria has huge reserves of several minerals, mining activities are still very low. In fact, as at today, there are only two licensed gold refineries in Nigeria & I don't think any of them has started operations. (Mining is one thing, beneficiation is another). These South African companies are not successful because of mining, they are successful because they beneficiate their products. But it does seem like the Nigerian solid mineral mining sector is gradually waking up. Let's see what the future holds.

    • @gonearethedays4983
      @gonearethedays4983 Год назад +1

      @@Gold-lv5ih NNPC is not really going "private" in the real sense of the word, like these SA companies. The so called private owners will still be govt agencies, not the general Nigerian people.
      That NNPC reform is just another typical NAIJA govt economic smokescreen. Solid mineral mining in Nigeria is not waking up anyhow.
      They are still under the exclusive list under the constitution, and until that is trashed and the sector liberalised, there is no waking up of the sector.
