I am about to build a cab for my MV50 AC. For that kind of amp (as in not a “real” valve amp) is there any point going blue back 12” or will a greenback 12” work ok for this amp?
Chalk and cheese. I have an AC30 TB 1997 with blue speakers but originally with greenbacks. The blues give a much richer sound but maybe a bit sharp on the treble strings. I think the greenbacks are slightly better for overdriven tones but the original purpose of the blues which were fitted to almost all the original amps was to generate clean tones. Overdrive was unthought of in 1959 and so the blues for clean are by a distance much better and well worth the extra money, particularly with single coil p/us. They sound even better if you can get hold of some original Mullard/Philips preamp valves
I don’t think the blue is premium in any way other than cost. One speaker (green) is very widely used/desired in other amps and one (blue) us pretty much Vox exclusive and doesn’t get used elsewhere really at al. More expensive is not always better/premium….
The reason it's not that commonly used is the power handling capacity and also the price. If you want to use blues with 100w amp you need two 4x12 cabinets loaded with those. So you would need eight blue speakers that cost almoust 300 euros per speaker.
@@mawashigerimasa outside of Vox no one puts blues in their 15watt amps or any other amp that’s in the 15-30watt range (matchless, Morgan, DrZ, etc.). They’re not very versatile speakers and they cost a lot. They do a clean Vox thing really well but that’s about it. This isn’t just opinion, it’s back up by marker and demand.
I've put 1 of each in a 2x 12 sounds great, i have them in series. Do you know if there is a tone difference in series as to parallel. I needed 16 so can't drop to 4 ohm to test.

The Alnico Cream does the job: handles 90 watts !
