I just got an AC-15 HW and i do have to agree. It is an amazing sounding amp. I couldn’t really get an idea of the sound watching videos. Seems like its about 98% videos of guitar playing than actual amp sounds. Just dudes playing riff after riff and scale after scale.. its exhausting and I absolutely hate the reviews I have seen. Glad I decided to pick up the amp despite what i have seen on RUclips. This is the best sounding VOX i have ever owned. It may even be better sounding than my old Top Hat club royal amps. You have to play one to understand. RUclips reviews have not done it any justice.
I’m thinking about getting the 4 or 15 hw. How do you like the amp? Do you think you will keep it or wish you got something else? I play things like sabbath, AC/DC, Hendrix and rhcp. I typically have to play the sabbath/AC/DC on the Marshall and I play the Hendrix/rhcp on the fender. I’m looking for something that can play both. The videos seem like the HW Voxs can do that but I am well aware the people in these videos are salesman.
Absolutely regarding the cabinets. Regarding comparing the two amps it literally is apples and oranges. I've owned two of the AC 15 hws and they are absolutely magical amplifiers and I wish that I didn't have to sell them. They sound so much better and so different than just the stock AC 15 C1. Not even in the same ballpark.
This has me wondering. I wonder if it's sag that's the issue when I plug a distortion pedal into my handwired, the amp actually loses volume. I'll have this loud clean sound, kick on the distortion and things actually go quieter. Dirtier but quieter. I'm starting to think that just the normal custom series is probably better suited to my needs
I owned an AC15C1, then an AC30C2..... both were from the Custom Series, cabinets made from MDF. They were both heavy as hell for their size because of that. The Handwired AC15HW1,, of which I own (2).... are made of Birch Plywood....... the width of the AC15HW1 cabinet is just an inch less than the AC30...... the size and tone of the AC15HW1 cannot be compared to the Custom AC15C1...... at all...... the tone of the Handwired Series far exceeds that of the Custom series by leaps and bounds.... Handwired users will say this is the best sounding Vox Amplifier to date....... and I must agree......... Pro Amplifier for Professional needs.....❤
yeah right, cause its all our fault. Why then does a Vox AC30 HW sound stiff and sterile out of the box and why does a "premium" amp have loads of really cheap parts on it (caps, pots, knobs, even the iron is the same as the CC series!)? You have to spend $500+ on mods to get a Vox AC30HW to sound decent. Wish I'd kept my TBX
Are ghost notes ever ideal? I don’t care if it’s vintage or modern, but I never ever never want ripple in my power supply! That’s just stupid! You can put special type resistors if you want more sag. But lower value capacitors is just stupid
I understand the current AC hand wired are done in China? I have held off on buying a hand wired not knowing who did the work and the reliability of the work?
The solder connections on my AC4 HW1 are perfect, wiring is very neat. Mine was done in Vietnam. Speaking as someone who wires up and repairs amps professionally I will say it's all in the components, which are good quality in these amps, and who wired it up, not where they wired it up. Those people should take pride in their wiring work IMHO
I don't think it is a who did the work issue it is that the components used are low quality unfortunately. For that price and labor costs very low they did not do the right thing I using non compromise components. I have one of those 500 Brian May AC30BM Amps I bought new.It sounds good..has the right sound.I never opened it to see how it was done
as a vox "purist", we couldn't care less about PCB, HW, vibe/trem, component quality, etc... we just want a good core circuit without SS junk and accurate to 60's models or the tbx, at a price point the average player can afford.

Yeah, so many 'review's are more like platforms for showing off how many same old blues riffs they know...
What about the mdf cabinets of the custom Classics? Huge difference in the sound and weight.

Last I knew they were made in Vietnam. My AC4HW1 was made in Vietnam.

@@danconwaystream thank you for your reply I bought the AC30 with 2Alnico spkrs love it
The work is flawless. I'll gladly send you gut shots of mine. It's as good as you'll see.

AC 15s and ac 30 s have no sag so a tube rectifier makes no sense , and a solid state rectifier makes the amp more reliable
The Hand Wired ac 15 or 30 still sounds like crap compared to those old amps!
Bullshit.....
By trying to up sell the HW series, your taking a bit of a shite on the C1 series. Not wise from several angles.🎸🇺🇸

So...are the "purists" living in the real world or are they just dreaming up an excuse to drop an extra grand and pretend that they have a better amp?
