It is so very sad of what happened to the Romanovs and what happened to their cherished belongings after most of them were killed off.

Very tragic. I’m not defending the plight of the common people under Romanov rule, but nobody, especially the children, deserves to die like that

As a plausible answer to the question of how the tiara ended up in the Philippine Central Bank, I'm guessing that it's a case of "history repeating itself": as the Empress Marie Feodorovna left the tiara behind at the Anitchkov Palace in St. Petersburg when she moved temporarily - or so she thought - to Kiev, so did Mrs. Marcos leave the tiara behind when she and her family abruptly had to flee the country. In both cases, the tiara was seized by the government: in the former instance, sold; in the latter, put into the bank.

Very plausible! And the takeaway is…make sure to travel with your best tiaras 😊

@@lostcrownjewels LOL!! I guess royalty's idea of "traveling lightly" is a bit different from ordinary people. Marie Feodorovna did, as a matter of course, take her "everyday" jewelry with her when she left St. Petersburg (and on to Kiev, the Crimea, the U.K., and finally to Copenhagen). This collection would prove to be quite a bone of contention between the Dowager Empress, her nephew (King Christian X), and her two daughters, the Grand Duchesses Xenia Alexandrovna and Olga Alexandrovna. Apparently, it is still disputed to this day 1.) whether or not the Grand Duchess Olga ever received her full share of the proceedings realized from the eventual sale of the jewels, following the Dowager Empress' death; and 2.) whether or not Queen Mary paid full price for the pieces she bought.

Not even in death they can have what they want. Disgraceful.

What was she going to do with a tiara? Where would she wear it? She wasn’t royal or nobility, she was just the wife of the president of The Philippines ! What utter greed! I hope the Russians can get it back!

She had a huge jewelry collection full of stuff that was very ostentatious - I guess that was just her style & MO 🤷‍♀️

You're right: it was just utter greed. Be it jewelry, shoes, clothes, paintings, or objets d'art, her attitude was that of "I see it; I want it; I get it." Toward the end of her days as First Lady (a misnomer of ever there was), I wouldn't be surprised if even she had lost track of just how much she had.
