  • The PiGRRL Zero Advance is a design that has been over a year in the making, ever since my modifications to the original Adafruit PiGRRL Zero project in the creation of the Plus version, this design incorporates all of the ideas, suggestions, and modifications that I and several others have come up within the last couple years. I'm hoping it will be one of the easiest/most comprehensive designs in the DIY space right now.

Words cannot begin to describe how beautiful this is. You haven’t just reinvented it. You perfected it into a much more practical device. The gods of Nintendo smile on you. Blessed be thumb pads that your hands rest on.

Wow. For a diy retro hand held you nailes it. With all of the companies making these things is rare to see the newer versions incorporate what the comsumers felt it lacked. This thing is really REALLY well made. I love the 3dprinted shell it allows for unlimited customization. Extremly im pressed. A diy handheld for then retro freak by a retro freak!!!

I know this is an old video and your domain isn't active anymore, but do you still have backups of the PCB files? I would like to produce one of these for myself.

The display resolution is 480x320 correct? This is fantastic for GBA emulation since everything can be rendered at exactly 2x without any change in aspect ratio. It must look significantly sharper than the smaller 320x240 displays, even when games are full screen. I'd like to see another video with more in depth emulation performance - can it achieve 60fps with the higher resolution?

The screen doesn't push 60 fps, which is hard to do without a Hyperpixel or something. This screen can do 30 fps pretty well without any framerate drops though. You can see more on GitHub though where Juj does some testing of his FBCP-ili9341 drivers. github.com/juj/fbcp-ili9341

This is amazing but I do have a couple of questions. 1. Is there space inside to add a head phone jack.
    2. Is there access to the HDMI and USB port to pair controllers and if not is there enough room inside to reroute them.

A couple questions for you as this is easily the best thing I've seen since mintypi.
    1. Do you include an image of retropie or have one for download that has had the setting set for your screen and hardware. ( some of us can build these things but setting up an image seems to baffle me lol)
    2. And this is more of a suggestion more than anything could a function button be integrated to keep from putting to many commands on the start and select so they can function as just that.
Other than that my hat is off to you this has easily stole my attention away from mintypi

Thank you so much! There is an image that is custom to this, you'll find it on my website (threedprintspace.com). I think changing the start select to another function button is a great idea, in fact, I may look into changing this on the software side sometime soon. Thanks!

Also to the function button idea of you make it to where you hit function and another button you can get a multitude of functions without bringing up a menu, such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggle, brightness, also save and load state anyways that's my only suggestion this thing is amazing

The Eagle files would be really nice to have. I wouldn't mind trying my hand at converting the design to use a Pi Compute module.
