    My grandpa has pigeons. I spend hours as a child just sitting with a hand full of food, waiting for the newly grown up pigeons to come closer and trust me. It was very rewarding every single year; going from “too afraid to come near” to “fifty pigeons fighting over the food in my hand”. Not what most six-year-olds do for fun, probably, but I cherish those memories a lot :) (fun fact: I was allergic to them as well, but I still pushed through 😂)

    Good morning and hello Frank from innisfil Ontario Canada. I'm a pigeon racer since the 70s not knowing too much about pigeons sport but really Excelled at the sport around 2006 until 2014 only to put the pigeons on hold until 2020. Now back into the hobby once again. We have the same teacher Jm. He is a book of knowledge and a great friend. Keep up with what you are doing and you will do well at your sport. I also like that you are involving the rest of your family Members that is so beautiful. GOOD LUCK and your going to do well.

    I have 2 indoor pet pigeons and the first one i got, i didn’t know that I should’ve hand fed her, so i gave her a food bowl. Shes very food aggressive now to anyone who goes near her food bowl and will guard her cage even when she has free roam time.
    But for my second pigeon, i hand feed him and he has no aggression whatsoever, so hand feeding is a great method Ive realized

Sometimes wants to sleep with me in the same room. I thing is that i want to take it outside the house to fly. I'm afraid that if i take it outside or i leave the window open it will fly and never come back. I don't want to die outside since he was at my home most of his life. There is a way going outside with it and be sure that it will come back?

    I have two white pigeons and I never try to keep their food stay away from .

      I get a massive bag of birdseed from costco, its just a mix of seeds for $30 and so far its lasted me 6 months and i still have food left over. And i mix it with pellets for chickens bc they need calcium in their diet. And a lot of people don’t recommend all seed diets, so mixing pellets in balances that out.

    • @fasterpigeons5001

      Most grocery stores sell wild bird mixes that pigeons would be fine with. Pigeons are very hardy and can survive on various grains. In your specific case a Walmart wild bird mix would be fine. I like to give peanuts as treats as well as flaxseed, rapeseed and other small oily seeds (This is called candy mix) Good Luck

    • @fasterpigeons5001
      @fasterpigeons5001  3 года назад +1

      Over fly during I race I assume you mean right? There are several factors to prevent this...First is feeding just enough for the bird to want to come home, if they are not hungry on race day they will just keep going as they are having a good time. The other factor is using droppers to help as a visual aid(Throw the dropper to the landing board when the group comes). The third your whistle training. Last, good luck! Lol. We all have this problem but making adjustments here and there help.

    • @fasterpigeons5001
      @fasterpigeons5001  3 года назад +3

      Pigeons respond well to routine. I would make a scheduled time for feeding twice a day if possible. Once in the morning and then in the afternoon. Remove all food in between these times. In the morning offer the food in your hand briefly and wait a few seconds for it to eat. In the beginning it may not eat so you can drop a few seeds in front of it so it knows what this means. Then withdraw and try again in the next session. Give it time and repetition and it will learn that you are the source of the food.
      Another method is to leave a peanut or other grain in the same place each morning as you go about. Eventually they realize and will come to you for the food. Avoid sudden movements, loud noises, or grabbing it with your hands as you are doing this, they may associate you with the negative experience. Good Luck!

      Yes, this a common way the pigeons defend themselves. He probably does not want to be held. If you must hold him move slow and do so gently. In the meantime continue to work with him by feeding from your hand and gently touching him as he eats. Good Luck!
