    I used to have a pigeon that I found after she fell out of her nest. She was too young to fly and I had to hand feed her for a few days until she figured out she could feed herself. She came to me when she felt like it, nothing like this. I had her out with me in the car once; and, when I stopped for gas, she got impatient, jumped out the window and flew away. I had never caged her; so, I knew she might want to take off some day. As it turns out, she was at home waiting for me when I got back. I know it was a she because she laid several sets of eggs, all infertile. Being free like that, she was a lot of fun and companionship.

      Lovely story! I handraised a white homer 5 yrs ago...I had to pull the baby 6days old from the nest box, because she had injuries being bullied by the flock....I named her Rosey. She flew the 1st day Mothers day. It was special. I owned a candle business since 1998. I brought her to the shop at 9 months old to be in a commercial for the shop. I tossed her and said, "spread your wings today and fly to The Candle Cottage" ...she flew right back to me as always, but I had to go inside to finish commercial. I ..left her on the porch... could kick myself for doing that....I thought i'd only be a second. I went back out and she was gone... to this day people still message me thinking they saw Rosey....I had flyers everywhere. I was so sad to have to drive home without her....I get home and wanted to lay my hand in ...her coconut shell bed and pray. When I put my hands in the shell to my surprise she had laid 2 eggs. It was mixed emotions. I was sad she was gone and for the 1st time confirmed she was a she...I think someone took her, because she would never leave my side. Today for the 1st time opportunity i am picking up 2 ...1week old baby Homer's. I am ready to try again. Keep in touch on my youtube channel. I will be posting and vlogging our journey. ❤💃🕊

    I have a pet pigeon and he's the same. He has only 3 months, but I ride with him on a bike, I go out with him, he doesn't like to fly that much and when I flip him enough to make him fly, he cames back to me fast. When I lay him on the ground and walk away few steps, he will fly onto me, or even I put him on grass and I will sit next to him he will fly at my shoulder. I got him when he was 2 weeks old, I reared him, I didn't teach him any special tricks, I just fed him, spent time with him, and I trust him.

      Starting a pigeon family isn't always the best idea xD Pigeons eggs take 3 weeks to hatch, 3-5 weeks to raise the baby, and then they start all over again, so 2 pigeons chicks every 6-8 weeks, that's about 15 pigeons a year! (and those babies get fertile when they're 3 months old...). You def need to birth control pigeons if you don't want to be flooded with them :P

    • @animalobsessed1
      @animalobsessed1 5 лет назад +2

    Though since Pigeons have their homing ability, would this technique work for Doves? Like Ground doves and the normal Ringneck dove?
    I've raised my Ground doves ever since they were an egg and now they are 5 months old, I've trained to them to come to me indoors but when I do this outside in an open area, they fly away and don't come back, I've only been managed to find them and bring them back home but they don't really listen to me?

    This relationship has to start with hand-raising a youngster which becomes imprinted on humans and see you as part or their flock and go where they go. Over my life, I've raised a number of pigeons that respond exactly the same as this person's. The birds do this naturally, only with their "foster" friends. The main problem is when you take them
    out in public places, since they have no fear of humans, you have to be careful of vehicles, pedestrians, other animals, (including hawks) and all of these create safety issues for that bird.

    Hi there, I've raised (or I am raising) a wood dove who fell out of the nest. It's hand tame, is learning to eat independent, I'm still feeding although I estime it must be about five to six weeks old now. It pick up seeds but drops them again.... Thanks for sharing this video, it gives me more insight to what is possible. And yes predators like falcons and cats of my neighbors are the main problems... Hope it will survive once I let it go... and come back. As this video is two years old, I hope pencake is still alive and kicking :) Have fun. One quick question, what are real treats for pigeons beside seeds ?

    • @Boborjanbobo
      @Boborjanbobo  4 года назад +1

      Wood pigeons eat worms too. They eat bud from tree and small green plants from ground as well. They need small peaces of gravel time to time for the digestion. Good luck with your pigeon :) P.S. : Yes Pencake is really well. She is 6 years old now and enjoy her life with me.

      @@DaMam21 I feed them ones a day. Yes, you did good, one day no food before first fly and normally they have to respond for your call when they are hungry. Maybe something scary the that's why they didn't come the first night, maybe a cat or some other predator.

      Maybe you're right. I have hand fed them only since and seeing a difference already, they were hand fed but not for every feed. My sons male and female. Friday is the second flight. Bath first then fly as this is the routine I have introduced. . I hope a much speedy return

    I wanted to let you know I have been training my pigeon since birth. She’s 4 weeks old today and she flew to me today. I take her out to different areas like you instructed and taught her to come to me. Outside training has only been happening for one week but it’s going really well. She seems to listen more when the weather is bad because she likes the warmth. How to teach her to come right away? Does it come with time?

    • @Boborjanbobo
      @Boborjanbobo  2 года назад

      she has to be hungry and she comes right away. If she can eat only from your hand, she learn that very fast and come to you every time if you want to.

    Hi, congratulations your pigeon is amazing!
    Please in your opinion what is the best breed of pigeon to have a very domestic smart and docile pigeon?
    At what age is it best to get a pigeon for this purpose (exluding starting to egg if possibile) ?
    Not necessarily to train it like your but to be a great pet, like a cat or a dog.
    If you don't socialize your pigeon will it go back to being wild? If you don't see him for a few weeks will he remember you and have the same interactions?

      Any kind of pigeon makes a good pet, it doesnt matter what breed, I already trained around 10 different type and all works great. If you take a pigeon from really early age is the best but if you patient and you spend enough time with an old bird, she get tamed as well. If one time you tame a pigeon, she will newer go wild again. Sometimes a leave my tamed pigeons alone for a really long time but as soon I start to play with them they will do everything just like before.
