I used to have a pigeon that I found after she fell out of her nest. She was too young to fly and I had to hand feed her for a few days until she figured out she could feed herself. She came to me when she felt like it, nothing like this. I had her out with me in the car once; and, when I stopped for gas, she got impatient, jumped out the window and flew away. I had never caged her; so, I knew she might want to take off some day. As it turns out, she was at home waiting for me when I got back. I know it was a she because she laid several sets of eggs, all infertile. Being free like that, she was a lot of fun and companionship.
Lovely story! I handraised a white homer 5 yrs ago...I had to pull the baby 6days old from the nest box, because she had injuries being bullied by the flock....I named her Rosey. She flew the 1st day Mothers day. It was special. I owned a candle business since 1998. I brought her to the shop at 9 months old to be in a commercial for the shop. I tossed her and said, "spread your wings today and fly to The Candle Cottage" ...she flew right back to me as always, but I had to go inside to finish commercial. I ..left her on the porch... could kick myself for doing that....I thought i'd only be a second. I went back out and she was gone... to this day people still message me thinking they saw Rosey....I had flyers everywhere. I was so sad to have to drive home without her....I get home and wanted to lay my hand in ...her coconut shell bed and pray. When I put my hands in the shell to my surprise she had laid 2 eggs. It was mixed emotions. I was sad she was gone and for the 1st time confirmed she was a she...I think someone took her, because she would never leave my side. Today for the 1st time opportunity i am picking up 2 ...1week old baby Homer's. I am ready to try again. Keep in touch on my youtube channel. I will be posting and vlogging our journey. ❤💃🕊
I have a pet pigeon and he's the same. He has only 3 months, but I ride with him on a bike, I go out with him, he doesn't like to fly that much and when I flip him enough to make him fly, he cames back to me fast. When I lay him on the ground and walk away few steps, he will fly onto me, or even I put him on grass and I will sit next to him he will fly at my shoulder. I got him when he was 2 weeks old, I reared him, I didn't teach him any special tricks, I just fed him, spent time with him, and I trust him.

Wow, just stumbled across this video and I'm glad I did. Very cool. She is beautiful! Pigeons are amazing creatures. It's ashame people see them as vermin! Amazing video! Thanks for sharing your tips! 👍
Starting a pigeon family isn't always the best idea xD Pigeons eggs take 3 weeks to hatch, 3-5 weeks to raise the baby, and then they start all over again, so 2 pigeons chicks every 6-8 weeks, that's about 15 pigeons a year! (and those babies get fertile when they're 3 months old...). You def need to birth control pigeons if you don't want to be flooded with them :P
@@spacebug30 That's why people buy fake eggs to replace the real ones with. That way the pigeons can feel like they're starting families, but you won't ever have to deal with any actual babies.
I think it's good that she's a free-flight bird, the only problem I have with this video is that one of your dogs chases her when she begins to fly. I know the dog is excited, but this could potentially stress her out and cause her to fly in another direction and get hurt somehow.
@@de4lw1thm37 then they would leave when mature. I think they put food and once the pigeon gets used to this, you can put food on hand and they will start flying there to eat, but this can take a few months
For some reason, he can't stretch either of his wings to their full length, and I wouldn't be able to force them I know it wouldn't help. He's very sweet though, he coos when I talk to him a lot of the time and flaps his wings before bowing, very cute
This is EXCELLENT!!! Though since Pigeons have their homing ability, would this technique work for Doves? Like Ground doves and the normal Ringneck dove? This relationship has to start with hand-raising a youngster which becomes imprinted on humans and see you as part or their flock and go where they go. Over my life, I've raised a number of pigeons that respond exactly the same as this person's. The birds do this naturally, only with their "foster" friends. The main problem is when you take them out in public places, since they have no fear of humans, you have to be careful of vehicles, pedestrians, other animals, (including hawks) and all of these create safety issues for that bird.
