Hey Mattheww Please look on my comment and answer on this. Is that You or that is spam ? I wrote on telegram and I’m not sure at that is You behind that account…
When learning to fly straight I would fly parking lots and use the painted lines to follow just looking at the screen. Fly forward, backwards and side to side. It works good for muscle memory!
As a pure novice I am learning so much from your content and appreciate the way that you deliver it in an easily understood fashion. Much appreciated 👍
I absolutely agree with you. As a novice for this new pastime of mine to get me out and about and thoroughly enjoy it, this was the (now only) channel I needed to go to for anything for a newbie drone related lessons that are easily understood. At 74 years old, that means a lot to me personally and this chap makes it a joy to listen and learn - and never be bored like on some channels.
Wow! I have to say, Matthew, that you do the absolute best videos. Your video editing, instruction, pacing is so good! You don’t wander off-topic and you share crucial tips and insights, including all the settings. This video, for example, has a large image of the controller on the right, perfectly mimicking what you are explaining on the left. Perfect! I guess you did a screen record, but how you kept the video of the controller perfectly still was stupendous! It allows the viewer to actually see what you are doing on the controller settings. Having the larger close-up view was perfect, compared to other RUclipsrs screen records. You deserve a million subscribers.😊
Great video. Exposure is always tricky. Having a fixed exposure where the light is constantly changing is not a good look. Some of your footage will be under exposed and some will be over exposed. Personally, I think auto exposure is the best option in these circumstances.
Hi, Matthew. A quick note of thanks for all you do to help us "newbies" learn proper Drone procedure, protocol and practices. Your videos are well done, accurate and easy to follow. Please keep them coming.
Solid recommendations. Coming up on one yr with the M3P. One thing I am trying to master now, while using all of these recommendations, is to fly inside a canopy going down a slope while maintaining the same smooth low altitude perspective, it's very tricky. An altitude cruise feature would be a great software update
Thankyou so much Matthew, I love your teaching technique, no lecture drivel just dive straight in! I will be watching your clips more than once, I am so enjoying the learning process thanks to your help.
Excellent tips. Very helpful. I wish I had watched this video before I crashed my drone into a tree. All your videos are wonderful. Thanks for helping us newbie drone operators. Thanks Matthew!

Thanks so much Matt, I’m watch heaps of these videos as I’m a new pilot. I’m sure you’ve saved me a lot of time and headaches… and you’ll probably save me a drone or two in time!

Your videos are great!! Thank you for making them so people like us can have somewhere to get our foundation built and get our confidence level high enough to be a pro flyer. Hopefully, I could make a cinematic movie! Need help though!!!
Hey 👋, Matthew I'm a air 2 pilot of 4 years, and had many drones, but now I have the mini 3 pro, Wow what a machine :). I've learnt lots from you including have an obstacle avoidance turned off but screen warnings turned on brilliant thanks for highlighting keep up the good work more mini three pro tips needed I'm biased 😆 happy New Year Matthew. 🎉
Excellent, thank you once again Mattheww. More Compass tips - yay! Flying straight is actually quite difficult as a beginner, so your advice on practicing this and gaining muscle memory is very welcomed, thank you.
Great video, Thanks for the tip that it always starts out in Normal mode even when set to Cine. That explains a lot of the issues I was having. My old eyes never noticed that before!
Excellent, as always. You’re a great teacher and I’m really grateful you take the time to make these videos-and that you’re flying the Mini 3 Pro. Watching your videos is always time well spent.
My first ever drone (dji mini 3 pro) arrived yesterday. Your videos have been essential in my understanding and decision to make the purchase. Thanks 🤟🤟🤟🤜🤛
Thank you so much for those tips! My wife uses her iPhone when walking to get video and even the iPhone 14 pro max doesn't remove all the walking motion. Flying the mini 3 with obstacle avoidance off did the trick. I felt a bit foolish on that one lol but worry about hitting things telling me I should be walking closer to the drone and watching the drone, not the controller screen! Thank you for all your great tips videos
Excellent video 👍 As for flying straight… wouldn’t it be great if you could lock the controls so to only go forward/backwards… or maybe customize the buttons for forward & backwards so that you couldn’t accidentally drift left or right? I wish this was possible but I don’t think it is at present. What do you think? Cheers, Steve.
Yeah - this is a great point - thanks for sharing. The only niggle is it will still drift up and down with obstacle avoidance set to bypass and sideways movement turned off. So if you fly close to a branch it will duck and dive. This isn't a huge issue, but if you want a perfectly straight tracking shot for example it's just something to be aware off. Thanks for sharing - really appreciate it!
That was a very informative video. I've flown my mini 3 pro for about 6 months/ I will definitely use most of the settings you suggested. Thanks again for the helpful tips.
Hi Matthew, I had never noticed it defaults to Normal mode when you turn it on and does not respect the button position! Thanks for that! One thing I do whenever I can is follow the drone to make sure the path is clear. Of course, if it is over water or something I can't follow it, that does not help. With the Mavic Mini, I used to use the Litchi app only for the VR goggles mode. I have one of those cheap goggles you slide your phone into and that made flying in tight spaces way safer and much more fun. I guess the Avata or FPV drones do this but it would be nice if the DJI goggles were not so pricy to use it in such situations. I loved flying with the VR goggles.
The button position is always worth checking the first time you turn the drone on. I have heard of others doing the VR mode too for tight space flying. I believe the dronemask is good for this but haven't tried it myself!
I've touched on this subject a few times over the years, as it's no doubt my favourite when it comes to drones. I tried the 'drop the hammer' method once. Clipped a branch and sent the poor guy down the edge of a small cliff. It's now a studio prop 😂. Looking forward to seeing you hit 100k this year too!!
Phillip!😂 Love your videos and sense of humour . You taught me to be a good pilot three years ago when I got my first drone, the original Mini. As a result I just kept flying the thing even when better products showed up. But now I’ve caved and await delivery of my second drone, The Mini 3 pro. Mathew, Thanks. I always learn something new from your videos. Your pacing and lesson plans are excellent and won you a new subscriber. I can see how this drone will address many of the technical limitations of my Mini 1 but also allow me to do things easily that were quite difficult to master manually. ALL great tips Mattheww 👏. By now I just hit the 👍 at the beginning of the the video, haven’t been wrong yet. What are your thoughts on anti glare matte screen protectors? I noticed you’re not using one or if you are it is just a clear screen protector 🤔
Hey, firstly thank you for the kind feedback and the 👍! I am using a screen protector but it is not a matte one. I personally haven't had any glare issues with the screen, but would definitely recommend a screen protector matte, or normal, to prevent the screen getting scraped!
Absolutely! When you first start trying to fly straight I have found that it is super easy to wander off course. By practicing flying straight over time you learn exactly how to hold the joystick in position to fly straight without wandering. Basically practicing the move to get better at it. Hope that helps!
Superhelpful hints for beginners. I lost my DJI Spark years ago when batteries got crucial in the woods and the aircraft did what it was supposed to do, it simply tried to return to the homepoint, unfortunately at RTH height. As the result it made upflight into the branches, the props were destroyed and also the batterie when it crashed on the ground.
Thank you Matthew for the excellent video. One question though, if you lose signal and you're set to "Hover" and you're over water (like a waterfall), what happens then? 🤔
Hey Julio, good question! If you set the 'lost signal' setting to 'hover' and you are over water the drone will still just hover in place over the water. So this would only be advisable if you can walk and get closer to it to take back control. (ie. path around the side of a waterfall for example). Hope that helps!
Awesome tips and a new subscriber! One thing I’ve noticed is when getting the drone low, how do I know when the landing will override the ground obstacle avoidance? The ground obstacle avoidance works always, but if I tap the joystick down a few times super low to the ground and then finally hold it down, the drone slowly starts to land.
@13:40 Super noob question. How much is the mic filtering out the drone noise? I haven't touched a drone in years and they were super noisy but that one seems very quiet by comparison.
Hi great tips thanks. One question, when setting "signal lost" setting to rth or hover.. Does that also apply to say when you are using active track and the drone loses sight of the subject/me? Cheers
Hey, if the drone loses sight or tracking of the subject (and still has signal to the controller) it will stop in place, it will not trigger the "signal lost" response. Hope that helps!
Mathew very good videos. Weird question. On my mini 3 pro, I can’t get the props screw to unscrew. That little screw driver doesn’t help get a good grip and I don’t want to break the arm . Any suggestions please. Ty
Hey Ron. I had this issue recently and actually bought a small set of screwdrivers with a longer handle to get a better grip. This worked well. The only other thing I have done that worked was to put a finger underneath the arm and press up towards the screwdriver to try and give it more grip. Hope that helps!
Matthew, awesome points on the video; always love what ya do. One thing though you use both your Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro in the video... would help credibility to put BOTH in the title as it shoots holes in image using the Plain Mini after you talk about and give examples of turning off obstacle avoidance..... to those who may not know how awesome your info is they may feel baited? cheers!!
Good point! Sorry, I am using the DJI Mini 3 Pro throughout this video - I just had some really good b-roll of the Mini 3 in a forest that I thought would suit!

The Obstacle Avoidance sensors can't be turned off.
Setting OA to Off in the menu only disables intervention. All the OA sensors remain active, feeding info to the drone's electronic brain.

Thank you Matthew for the excellent video. One question though, if you lose signal and you're set to "Hover" and you're over water (like a waterfall), what happens then? 🤔

So this would only be advisable if you can walk and get closer to it to take back control. (ie. path around the side of a waterfall for example). Hope that helps!

Another great video, thanks for the information.
Thanks for watching - appreciate the kind feedback!
@@TheDroneCreative that's what I figured, but that new kid on the block just kept jumping out at me (I think I have front landing leg envy) 😂
I owe you EVERYTHING for your Filmora review. It helped me unlock a ton of things in LumaFusion working a timeline. Love your stuff!
