- Today, we head over to RSA Race Solutions in our 2024 Mustang Dark Horse
to give it the final round of mods before we hit the track, including RSA's Stage 3 Build, a QA1 Carbon Fiber Driveshaft, and a Steeda Driveshaft Loop. Stay tuned as the next time you see this car, we'll be hitting the track hoping for an 8 second pass.

11:50 I'm afraid I would had to have locked you in the trunk by this point. 🤣
Funny thing is my buddy called for a quote on a 10r80 build and was told they don’t build transmissions anymore.
Awesome! Were the stock clutches still ok when examined at tear down?
Yes, everything was determined to be well and healthy inside. .
@ thats makes me feel good running my stock 10R80 at 800 whp when I roll race at a track once per month.
How many passes will this rebuild last 2? 5?
You can put a built 10r80s trans on a stock transmission whipple calibration? Wouldn’t throw a check engine light?
@@ricardosimon5044 it will work without any issues. You just need to make sure to use the Ford IDS tool to run the relearn calibration process after installing it. RSA did that process and road tested it to make sure everything was in working order before giving the car back to take home.
Won’t the CF driveshaft shred if it fails? I get the loop is required, but with a CF DS, is it really going to do anything?
less rotating mass
That loop isn’t needed with a carbon driveshaft.
Probably not, but it's most likely mandated rules.
@@Boosted_5.0I was asking if the loop is going to do anything in relation to the CF driveshaft. Loops traditionally prevent pole vaulting the car when the driveshaft broke free. A carbon fiber ds, once it fails, falls apart fairly easy compared to steel or aluminum. At least that is my understanding. CF shafts are lighter and absorb shock better than others too. They’re sweet imo.
How much $$ for the transmission rebuild?
5k for stage 3 with stock torque converter.
@jeffkelly9197
Thanks, not bad.
My last Mustang was an 03 Cobra so I've been out of the scene for a couple decades and wasn't aware of how much automatics had improved. As a result, I bought a 6 speed Dark Horse. I can't help but feel like I made the wrong decision and that I'll never come close to what these cars are capable of now. I already put a stage 2 whipple on but feel like I should be considering trading it in on an automatic Dark Horse to start over. If I search for a 6 speed DH with a stage 2 whipple...I can't find anyone breaking into the 9's but 10R80's are already breaking into the 8's. I'd welcome thoughts/perspective from anyone on my situation.
Trade it in. If you drag race all the time, the 10 speed is it. Alternatively you could mod the six speed and become the first 6MT into the 8s. It'll be expensive and you'll have to master driving it, but the props are forever.
Yeah I understand how you feel I ended up getting a 6 speed dark horse also because I kinda just wanted it for the experience wasn’t worried about times it would put down, but yeah if you do care about the times your getting with a manual the auto is a no brainer
10 speed good till few trips down strip then it gets hot don’t like to hold pressure nothing like the gm 10 speed
Autos are almost always faster than manuals. Was that way back in 03 too 🤣
@@2GUNMASTER Back then, all Cobras were manuals. Sounds like you're too young to know that.
Stock 10R80s are garbage! They don’t last mine is stock with no power adders of any kind or tunes! Mine was good for about 2000 miles. Mine is at 9000 miles now and is at the shop this time for just short of two months this time. and it’s probably been in the shop a total of 2 1/2 months or more and that’s only dealerships that’s not talking about aftermarket places that told me I needed to have Ford fix it since it was under warranty still.
Ours has been flawless with over 50+ dyno pulls at 700+ WHP, as well as 20-30 runs on the drag strip.
@@Lethalcamp Why has my transmission failed STOCK engine with no power upgrade of any sort? This started at 2k miles. Now at 9k. At a Ford dealer 5x. Now at the dealer for almost 2 months this go round alone. No loaner car!
Why are there so many other people with stock cars/trucks, not drag cars and trucks with failed /problematic 10R80 trans.?
How about the videos by Southern Illinois University/SIU and others showing the toilet design, failed multiple parts, of the transmission?
@@mtnbikerva1both my trucks with 10r80’s have been good. My family members with them have been good as well.
Maybe you just have a bad one
What year do you have?
@@jeffkelly9197 2022 in a MACH 1 w/handling package. I LOVE the car when it is right. The transmission is a turd. Maybe with the new administration in office and the EPA and other government agencies being reeled in manufacturing and business will improve.
I want one lol
