    They only sacrifice a few tourists a year to the old gods, so pretty safe to visit.

    "The Islands that Kill Whales" is what it's become, after successful awareness campaigns. Where I live we eat beef, pork, Whitetail Deer. Because that is what is here. Its hard to watch the whales being killed on video, but it's hard to kill a smart and pretty Whitetail standing in a field or even a steer in a corral. But I eat meat and thats the indigenous mammals here in the Midwest U.S. I suspect some people have to point the finger at someone or they don't feel like theyre doing the right thing. I just hope the Faroe Islanders maintain their heritage and lifestyle despite outside hypocrisy, so when I visit the Islands, they'll be as traditional and unspoiled as they've always been.

      It's is mainly pilot whales which is being hunted on the Faroe Islands. Numbers differ from year to year, but on average it's around 800 a year. Regarding bottlenose whale, less than 50 have been hunted since 2000.
      Looking at the two species of whales. According to academics, there are around 800.000 pilot whales in the eastern North Atlantic, and of those 100.000 in Faroese waters.
      I totally agree with you that they have many other sources of protein. But it takes time to end something as cultural attached with living on the Faroe Islands. But I do feel that there is a shift in the local peoples mentality and attitude towards the hunting of whales. It has always been a source of food, and with that came a communal culture of solidarity and sharing was developed. And it would be difficult, if not impossible, to end something like that overnight.
      Due to the industrialized world contamination of the worlds oceans, these whales have become highly toxic to eat, and is one reason why less eat whale meat today on the Faroe Islands. And the tradition is in my opinion on the way out. However, when an organisation like Sea Shepard come to the Faroe Islands and attack the Faroese people and their culture in the way which they do, they are being counter productive.
      A thing I have to call you out on is your understanding of how Faroese are employed. Yes, a large part of the male population work on the ocean, but mostly with fishery or aquaculture. But it a modern society with retail, tourism, bankers, teachers, doctors, lawyers etc.
      Faroe Islands should of course maintain their cultural heritage, but some things will naturally be left in the past. If whaling is going to be a part of that time will tell.

      I agree.... I too felt bad when I came to know about that. Animal killing whichever animal it may be should not be made part of cultural heritage.

      @Edward Wolski Actually the faroe islands doesnt kill that many whales each year. They arent going extinct either. Also "in this day and age there is no need for the consumption of whales" that is the stupidest thing I've heard in a while. Whales are cute i get it. I don't like to see them get killed, but whales are food whether you like it or not.

    • @ratpiss566
      @ratpiss566 5 лет назад +2

      @Edward Wolski Yeah humans are food too, but why is it just because we have enough food we shouldn't kill whales? Why are cows, pigs and chickens different? Many countries have even more food than us. Because it is tasty, that's why we eat it. And that's why many people eat chickens, pigs and cows.

    • @ratpiss566
      @ratpiss566 5 лет назад +1

      Also we do not kill them senselessly. We eat them, for food. And so do other countries when they kill sharks, but no one cares about that since sharks aren't cute or whatever.

So when King George sent his troops to Russia for revenge killing of his cousins you find it highly ethical but you can't get to your head that the Afghans, Syrians, Libians, Iraqis or whoever else was recently murdered by the West has the same right? Since 2003 over one million Iraqis was murdered for no reason - don't you think that some of them could feel vengeful and in need for revenge for their destroyed families and countries?

      It's because the Internet, and RUclips especially, is overrun by tiresome, arrogant dullards who think that the Purpose of the Universe is to please them personally. If they see or hear something they don't like, instead of simply moving on to something else they are irresistibly compelled to notify the world of their displeasure, apparently in the belief that people will be impressed by how unimpressed they are. If you call them out on it, of course, they almost immediately stand on their Right To An Opinion as if that excuses or is even relevant to anything.
      Like caterwauling, sirens, fingernails on chalkboard, etc., they can be difficult to ignore. I find it helps to listen to some good music:

      Well said Willie. Beating around the bush is useless. If one criticized Hitler in similarly direct terms you will still get those who think you should couch your language in polite phrases. As far as this singer is concerned I have heard more music from a warthog that is being mauled by a leopard.

      Yeah, go the right time of year and you can (bonus) watch the inshore waters awash with blood as they pull out--by hand, whales and Dolphins and cut them to pieces. Be sure you have this kind of music in your earbuds--don't want to hear that distracting screaming. Real tranquility--just turn up your fav tunes as they butcher them still alive. They really are "in touch" with nature.
